Umm... I don't know about you but I wouldn't have anything nice to say about the folks who did that to me. No matter what religion the folks with the guns would have my fule ire.

One has to remember, these statements came while the reporters were still in the middle east. Lets see what they say when they get back to the west.

What you are so saddled with is an absolutist religious philosophy that in nothing other than name differs from the fundamentalist Islaamists. You just happen to call it Christianity. Neither is to be encouraged, heralded or spread to others. You aren't able to learn anything from others because your mind is as narrow as theirs and your religion as arrogant. When you free yourself from such absolutism you might be able to benefit peace in the world. God would be ashamed of you.

Mark, you need to lay off the drive-by media--you're gonna really tick off Shipley.

Personally I think I know all I need to know about Islam, and I feel NO obligation to "learn" about it.
See I tend to believe that actions speak louder than words....and their actions to date leave me sickened.
I understand that there are extremists on all sides, but quoting scripture is a far cry from the heinous acts perpetrated by Islamic zealots.

Forced conversions are acceptable in Islam. Now, if Steve Centanni and Olaf Wiig leave Islam (become apostates) the penalty for them is death.
From Offensive War to Spread Islam, Muhammad said to his followers:
"Invitation first (that is, call them first to embrace Islam). If they refuse, then war."
In other words, he told his followers not to kill anybody unless you first invite him to embrace Islam. Only if he rejects it, must he be killed.
Example of forced conversion: Abu Sufyan was forced to convert to Islam under threat of beheading:
When Muhammad and his followers were about to attack Mecca to subjugate it to Islam, his adherents arrested Abu Sufyan, one of Mecca’s inhabitants. They brought him to Muhammad. Muhammad told him: "Woe to you, O Abu Sufyan. Is it not time for you to realize that there is no God but the only God?" Abu Sufyan answered: "I do believe that." Muhammad then said to him: "Woe to you, O Abu Sufyan. Is it not time for you to know that I am the apostle of God?" Abu Sufyan answered: "By God, O Muhammad, of this there is doubt in my soul." The ’Abbas who was present with Muhammad told Abu Sufyan: "Woe to you! Accept Islam and testify that Muhammad is the apostle of God before your neck is cut off by the sword." Thus he professed the faith of Islam and became a Muslim.
There are many sources which record this forced conversion to Islam-
1)Ibn Hisham, part 4, p. 11 ("Biography of the Prophet’)
2)"The Chronicle of the Tabari", part 2, p. 157
3)Ibn Kathir, "The Prophetic Biography", part 3, p. 549, and "The Beginning and the End"
4)Ibn Khaldun, the rest of part 2, p. 43 and on
5)Al-Sira al-Halabiyya, Vol. 3. p. 18
6)Al Road Al Anf, part 4, p. 90, by Al Sohaily

Whoa, whoa, whoa! I'm not going to jump on this comment from Centanni until he has a chance to explain the whole thing in detail, okay? Come on, folks, give this a little time. Let this develop a little more. Please don't jump the gun.

Hey Keefer,
I found it helps to push your post out of the "blogosphere" the BSOD! Try it sometime, see if it works for you, or if it's a fluke I stumbled upon!

So, The TL said yesterday he saw the only difference between Islamo-Facists and Christians was mileage.
I wonder how many people have converted to Christianity at gunpoint. Do you know TL, DO YOU?

Ah, that's why the Rev uses it, mary--I'll bet you're right.
These kooks like to compare the Islamofascists to Eric Rudolph. Why do you think I call 'em dopes?

I think he had to say something nice to the Islamofascists so that journalists could continue to come to Palestine (and other places) and report on their anti humanity ways.
Being forced to convert tells it all.
BTW, I don't think saying you've converted to Islam is the same as actually doing it. If they were going to shoot me unless I converted, I'd convert in a heartbeat for the sake of my family. The conversion is worthless without a sincere heart.

Achilles’ Heel
by Mark Steyn, The New York Sun, Aug 28, 2006
Our Thought For The Day comes from Steve Centanni, the Fox News reporter freed over the weekend by his captors in Gaza:
“We were forced to convert to Islam at gunpoint. Don’t get me wrong here. I have the highest respect for Islam, and I learned a lot of good things about it.” [..]
Earlier, his captors released a statement saying the two men had been offered a choice between a) conversion to Islam; b) the jizya (the tax paid by non-Muslims to their Muslim masters); or c) war. There was no none-of-the-above box. “They chose Islam,” said the spokesperson for the group,“and that is a gift God gives whom He chooses” — even if circumstances occasionally oblige Him to give it to you down the barrel of a gun.
*********
Is everybody getting this? This Muslim terrorist group is doing exactly what the prophet Muhammad did in forcing Centanni and Wiig to convert to Islam at the point of a gun. The only difference is that Muhammad used a sword. They aren't "Islamic radicals" and they aren't "distorting Islam". This Muslim terrorist group, the Holy Jihad Brigades, is acting in accordance with Islam.
Denial isn't just a river in Egypt. It's been 5 years since 9/11. It's time for everybody in the West to wake up.

One more quote from Mark Steyn's Achilles' Heel article above:
So, if you’re pinning your hopes on Islamic reform, the difficulty is that most prominent Islamists are doing no more than Mohammedan karaoke. Here’s Osama bin Laden during the post-9/11 Afghan campaign:
“I was ordered to fight the people until
they say there is no god but Allah, and his
prophet Mohammed.”
It’s hard to argue direct quotation is a “distortion” of the “religion of peace.”

Freedom1,
You are exactly correct, and your interpretation is dead on target.
I have never fallen for the crap we were being fed, that Islam is a religion of peace...but I was lead to believe that because there seemed to be no outcry from the "peaceful muslims" demanding the end to terrorism.
I stated earlier that I felt no obligation to learn about Islam, I don't feel obligated, but I am very appreciative of the citations that you took the time to explore,to so tactfully point out what we must know to survive this threat.
