Improving Security in Baghdad

This will depress spirits over at DailyKos and the Democratic National Committee:

There has been a dramatic drop in violence in areas of the capital where house-to-house searches have been conducted, the officials say.

An Iraqi general has told the BBC he believed the securing of Baghdad was now not so far away.

But he also called on the Iraqi government to persuade militias to give up their weapons.

The Americans and the Iraqi government have put thousands of extra troops on the streets to wage this battle against insurgents, sectarian forces, and what they openly call death squads and violent criminals.

In the present phase of the operation they are working their way through the districts most prone to violence, cordoning them, searching house-to-house for illegally held weapons and preparing to hand over these areas to the police.

Meanwhile, 500 Iraqis have just joined the police in Anbar province - which we don't hear too much about these days, and that indicates a sharp drop in violence in that area, too.

What if the left held a surrender, and America refused to show up?

It's good to hear some TRUTH every now & then Mark! Thank you for these little tid-bits that boost our moral here at home, and sink the spirits of our local pacifist/defeatists!

Funny how all the "good news" is always confined to the teeny-tiny area and the fact that the escalating violence in all areas are one the rise is conveniently ignored.

Looking at the overall violence in Iraq, is is rising dramatically, but lets ignore that now and just concentrate on a few streets where is it lower.

This is great news! Good for the Iraqis and the US military!

The cost of "staying the course" in Iraq:

The National Priorities Project has a real eye-opening website that calculates the cost of the War in Iraq and them compares it to what we could do with that money.

As a resident of California, here’s what they say we could be doing:

Taxpayers in California will pay $40.3 billion for the cost of war in Iraq. For the same amount of money, the following could have been provided:

16,733,296 People with Health Care or
627,551 Elementary School Teachers or
4,767,634 Head Start Places for Children or
25,168,314 Children with Health Care or
235,246 Affordable Housing Units or
4,390 New Elementary Schools or
7,685,109 Scholarships for University Students or
616,017 Music and Arts Teachers or
741,482 Public Safety Officers or
117,140,845 Homes with Renewable Electricity or
601,790 Port Container Inspectors

Instead................we're spending billions on a war we had NO reason to fight, 2600 of our soldiers are gone, and we've gone from the most respected and admired nation on the face of the earth, to the most hated and least respected. Our status as a world figure is gone because the Idiot-in-Cheif lied us into war for a failed policy of Mideast imperalism(see the Project For a New American Century).

And have the nerve to call yourselves Chiristians?
Jesus would been ashamed of you all.

TL,

Your parents must have been in college during the 80's. Why don't you do some more fun comparisons:

How many condoms would be have passed out in school for the price of on Stryker?

If we had kept the 2nd Infantry Division home for a month, how many more pork barrel military projects could we have provided for John Murtha? For Nancy Pelosi?

For the price of one laser-guided bomb, how many statues of Senator Byrd could be erect in West Virginia?

You guys on the left are just soooo boring...

Cost of "staying the course" in Iraq: $40.3 billion

Cost of closing down the rape rooms, torture chambers, mass graves and stopping the genocide of the Kurdish Iraqis: 2500+ US soldiers lives

Cost of freedom and democracy in Iraq...Priceless!

Operation Iraqi Freedom is a brave and noble endeavor. God bless the US military-the finest fighting force on the planet!

"Cost of freedom and democracy in Iraq...Priceless!"

Um, no. The cost is billions of dollars and thousands dead. You may think that Iraqi freedom is invaluable. But for that we have already paid with much blood and money. (Well, our troops have paid with blood and our children will pay with money, that is.)

Thanks freedom, couldn't have said it better myself! Question for TL & all the other non-military/non-sacrificing liberals. IF THE IRAQIS REALLY DIDN"T WANT THIS CHANCE AT FREEDOM, A LARGE SCALE CIVIL WAR WOULD HAVE STARTED THREE YEARS AGO!!! As it stands a band of extreme terrorist have an utterly hard time causing social unrest amongst the majority of the country! This is why the IRAQI people now shed much blood, not because of an illegal(supposed)invasion, but because of an inherent desire for a free & democratic Iraq! And you would take that away from them & from our soldiers whom have spilled their blood! Tenn lib. your are a bastard!

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 28, 2006 02:29 AM

Tenn lib. your are a bastard!

So I'm a bastard for calling for an end to a war we had no reason or just cause to begin, nor a way to win the peace?
Then i'll wear the badge with honor, sir.

'compassionate conservatism' at it's finest, folks..............

As many times as the word HATE has come up in your posts lately little boy, you have no room to talk about compassion! As for the bastard part, your lack of compassion for others in this world is utterly apalling and inexplicable for a supposed liberal! You people are so power hungry you refuse to confront truth & reallity in your lives! I really, really feel sorry for you & yours TL. I will pray that maturity opens your eyes and ears to the real world, not your liberal utopia fantasy. God bless, you'll need it someday if not today!
