What does everyone think about Pluto losing its status as a regular planet?

It's sure to be a blow for Pluto's tourist industry.
Personally, I was happy to see this week that W settled once and for all that WMDs were the main reason we invaded Iraq.

Yep, welcome to America, an abortion for every woman is out motto. We son't have to worry about terrorists, we'll take care of the problem for them.
Just can't fix stupid....

Yes Maf, it's a great day to be an care-free, young man on the prowl! My male students are planning on keeping a few morning after pills in their wallets next to the condoms they got from the high school nurse.
Responsibility? Nah! Not in our progressive society.

Part of being a leader is being held accountable.
(i.e.,"the buck stops here").
After almost 5 years (has it been 5 years already?) "we" don't care about OBL. Afganistan is starting to crumble, (sorry Ms. Coulter, U.S. Soldiers were killed there this week, its NOT going "swimmingly").
Israel and Lebanon are NOT fixed. We have made Iran a middle eastern powerhouse. Our Commander in Chief is "frustrated" with Iraq. Saddam had NOTHING to do with 9/11, and nobody in this administration has said so. (Whaaa?)
The price of oil has skyrocketed. Russia is poised to become the worlds powerbroker holding most of the good cards to the fuel supplies. We are in debt up to our eyeballs with China, who will obviously cater to the nation that wields the fuel they need. Oops, there goes our dollar. Our "diplomatic" efforts with the central american nations have left much to be desired. Really, when it comes to managing the diplomatic affairs, can we do a poorer job? I think not.
The housing market is starting to crumble. The average Americans equity will erode quickly. Trickle down has started to take place. The cost of fuel has only started to affect the market place. I have no doubt we have only seen the beginning. I would not want to be in Bernakes shoes right now.
What has been DONE to address the issues surrounding the Katrina fiasco? If this season brings another monster hurricane our way will the response be the same? Have we learned from our past mistakes, or are we going to repeat them? I see nothing monumental in addressing the root of the Katrina failure. Hold on to your hats.
The republicans have been in power and steered the direction we are heading in now. One cannot blame the dems for the crisis we face now. We are the minority. The republicans have to shoulder the burden of the mess we face, to do otherwise is simply false and full of rhetoric.
So fellas, how are you going to spin this one? Go the route of Ms. Coulter and say we're doing "swimmingly?" Please...gimmie a break.
Are you going to accept responsiblity for the ACTUAL events going on, boldly stating the "buck stops here". Or are you going to whine, blaming everybody else but the people directly involved in the decision making.
Here's a little opinion.
Things are NOT going swimmingly. Things are a mess. To deny that is just not true. Things are a mess. From soup to nuts, our status as a respected world leader, our economy teetering on the brink of disaster, the entire middle east in crisis. What else can get worse? Are we going to light up Iran? "Bring em'on".
Have a good vacation W. Rest well, you have got a boat load of work ahead and I don't think your up to the task.

an abortion for every woman
Plan B is not the same as an abortion. It is not even close. To equate the two shows either a lack of understanding on the issue, or intellectual dishonesty, or perhaps both. What is your excuse?
Even a hard-core pro-lifer doesn't agree with you (linked from Slate).
And Boon, one could make the case that using Plan B is taking responsibility. I am "care-free, young man" myself (24), and I use condoms ... but if one breaks, well, now there is a safety net. For once, logic & reason prevail over the wingnut religiosos.
Posted by: maf53 at August 25, 2006 01:15 PM
Maf,
Now ya ain't gotta carry around condoms...ya can just slip her some Plan B in a drink.
Anyone know if Plan B is harmful if taken during a pregnancy? What about in large doses?
What is the potential for abuse and misuse of Plan B?
Posted by: Nebraska Militia at August 25, 2006 01:51 PM
C to the C,
Sorry, I can't think about that right now, I'm so worried about Maf, poor boy has nothing to live for. He's even preparing for his condom to break. This is truly sad.
Why, in my day we only had to worry about being drafted and sent to SE Asia; missiles in Cuba aimed at us, communists in our government; hijackers in the airlines; DDT; nuclear brinksmanship; the Soviet Union vowing to destroy us; being shot by National Guardsmen on campus; bludgeoned at the Democratic convention; incurable cancer, all of them were incurable; race riots; double digit inflation; presidential assassinations; presidential candidates assassinations; civil rights leader assassinations; the IRA; the Weather Underground; the SLA; Black Panthers; Yassar Arafat; three wars in Israel; Charles Manson; revolutions in central America; OPEC; Agnew; India’s nukes; Pakistan’s nukes; overpopulation; air pollution; water pollution; noise pollution; acid rain; etc. etc. etc …
No wonder we’re so happy these days …

If a child is conceived and aborted that is abortion.
You libs are real good at changing definitions, and dumbing things down.
The facts are simple. Was it alive? Yes. Did you stop it from being alive? Yes. Then you killed it. Can't get any simpler than that.
I wonder...I heard that there can be severe side effects to Plan B, even death. I wonder if the pro abortion folks will demagogue the pill in the same fashion as they do with so-called back alley abortions if 'legal' abortions are outlawed.
Posted by: Porter Jervis at August 25, 2006 06:23 PM
Porter is right - you wouldn't be having an abortion if you weren't getting rid of something that is alive. Maf, Plan B is aborting a life, you wouldn't be taking the pill if you weren't trying to get rid of life...One of the main reasons we even have to discuss Plan B, etc... is "We the people" are having sex outside the boundaries God meant for us to. Within marriage, sex is beautiful and sacred. As a society, we have made sex mere play; no need for marriage vows and those who have taken the vows are cheating. We are losing our integrity while doing so. I know many folks squirm when you mention the Bible and what it teaches about sex. But it is the truth and God gives us a wonderful blueprint...afterall, He is the One who created it! He isn't trying to keep us from having fun..His boundaries protect us from psychological hurt (especially for women)and physical diseases. I know that it seems most Americans now don't live by the teaching of abstinence before marriage, and staying true once one is married, but isn't it worth trying to get back to again? At a pro-life rally I attended years ago, I saw a slogan that was very enlightening...Pro-choice before conception/Pro-life after conception...meaning, you choose to go to bed with someone - that's where the "choice" begins and ends - if there is conception, that's a life and it should be protected.

Stop making absurd simplifications of your own, and look at all the facts, all the details.

Plan B is aborting a life, you wouldn't be taking the pill if you weren't trying to get rid of life
You are simply uninformed. Have you bothered to actually read up on the drug?
It is taken to prevent pregnancy, much like a condom, much like the birth control pill. If you consider those methods as "abortion" as well, then we can stop this discussion now. Here is how it works:
Plan B acts primarily by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary (ovulation). It may prevent the union of sperm and egg (fertilization). If fertilization does occur, Plan B may prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the womb (implantation). If a fertilized egg is implanted prior to taking Plan B, Plan B will not work.
As for the rest of your post, once you mention the Bible, I have tuned you out. Try using logic and reasoning to make your points. Your fairy-tale religion makes no impression upon me.
And for the record, strictly speaking I am pro-life --- I just don't think you can criminalize it.

maf, and just who do you think created all this science? The preciseness and beauty of the universe did not just happen.
To accept that science as we know it has all the answers would be like taking a big pile of stuff and throw it up in the air and a 747 would appear.
Oh, and maybe you are new to debating, but rule number one is the first one to insult automatically looses because that don't have facts to stand on, so they just call someone stupid.

A miserable milestone was passed the other day. America's (and Britain's) disastrous war in Iraq has now lasted longer than the US involvement in the Second World War. Yes, this conflict has outlasted a war that ended with total victory over Nazi Germany. Hitler declared war on the US on 11 December 1941. Exactly 1,244 days later, on 7 May 1945, Germany surrendered. The US invaded Iraq on 19 March 2003, and this weekend it is 1,267 days later, with no end in sight.
