The Threat Of Terrorism

On NBC's "Meet The Press," Howard Dean said, "The Republicans hope, once again, to win an election based on fear." This is his way of complaining about national security and terrorism being made key issues in the election. Dean and the Democrats don't want to talk about these issues, because they're losing issues for the Democrats.

The events of last week, however, prove that talking about the threat of terrorism is not "fear-mongering," like Howard Dean claims. The threat of terrorism is real. President Bush understands that. The Republican Party understands thats. In his weekly radio address, President Bush dicussed the thwarted terror plot of last week,

In his most extensive comments on the disrupted plot, Bush said it was a stark reminder that terrorists still aim to kill Americans five years after the Sept. 11 attacks.

"This plot is further evidence that the terrorists we face are sophisticated and constantly changing their tactics," Bush said in his weekly radio address, taped Friday at his Texas ranch and broadcast Saturday.

"We must never make the mistake of thinking the danger of terrorism has passed," Bush said. "This week's experience reminds us of a hard fact — the terrorists have to succeed only once to achieve their goal of mass murder, while we have to succeed every time to stop them."

Is this fear-mongering, Howard Dean? Or are we supposed to forget this plot was ever meant to happen and pretend like there is no threat?

I'm tired of Democrats complaining any time the threat of terrorism is brought up. They look it at it as a political issue... if they can't benefit from it, they want to ignore it. If Democrats were less concerned about the "rights" of terrorists and more concerned about the lives of Americans than things would be different. But, the fact is, they'd rather your elderly and disabled grandmother get strip-searched at the airport than Middle-Eastern-looking men ages 18-35, so not to offend Muslims.

The threat of terrorism is real. We cannot ignore it. We must fight it. Perhaps one day when they put the lives of Americans before their political ambitions, Democrats will join President Bush and the Republican Party in fighting terror.

They've used the same playbook for so long they're becoming easily predictable, although I've never been quite so aware of it until Bush was elected.

hummm...lets see, El Al has successfully screened-out terror for decades thru intense questioning, behaviour profiling, & more sophisicated equipment software.

And the target demographic (the highest threat) aint ur grandmother!

El Al doesn't trust TSA methods which appear to throw (away) massive $$$ in a (fruitless) attempt to remain politically correct in screening procedures. This is the unfortunate result of unfair decrimination against blacks who, ironically aren't the high threat, target demographic.

Read all about it...

"At least six (formerly two) undercover agents accompany each international El Al flight, sitting amongst passengers whilst holstering firearms. All El Al pilots are former Israeli Air Force fighter pilots, and all El Al flight crew members are trained in hand to hand combat. In fact, most El Al employees have served in the Israel Defence Force (since national service is compulsory in Israel for most citizens).

El Al security procedures also require that all passengers be interviewed individually prior to boarding, allowing El Al staff to identify possible security threats. All passengers are classified on a basic 3 tier threat scale: Israelis and Jews are usually classified as the lowest threat, Westerners are usually classified as medium level threats, and Arabs (particularly males) are usually classified as high threat. In addition, all luggage must pass through a decompression chamber; this simulates pressures during flight which may be triggers for explosives [1]. El Al is the only airline in the world that passes all luggage through this special chamber.

The El Al fleet is also the only commercial airline fleet in the world to be equipped with anti-missile countermeasures.

As a result of the tight security, only one El Al plane has been successfully hijacked, in 1968 (see below for details)."

"get strip-searched at the airport than Middle-Eastern-looking men ages 18-35, so not to offend Muslims".

I had a discussion with a friend about this the other day. I don't think we should be just targeting young arab men. I think it should include hispanic(padilla), african(the six recently arrested for a terrorist plot), white(little johnny walker and the other 2 whites fighting along side the taliban). I read a recent report where these islamos were trying to recruit american and mexican street gangs into doing their dirty work. The facts show these terrorists are now trying to change the color of their skin.

To your other points.

"Perhaps one day when they put the lives of Americans before their political ambitions"

I think it's more ominous than that. We had a major breach of security during the forties and fifties in our government. Some think the Truman Whitehouse was so infiltrated with soviet spies that he would have lost almost twenty percent of his staff if properly investigated. The amount of anti-american/jewish communism that existed in the form of the labor party remarkably resembles the democratic party of today.

Perhaps one day when they put the lives of Americans before their political ambitions, Democrats will join President Bush and the Republican Party in fighting terror.

I see that outcome as very unlikely. What is more possible and will likely happen is that the Democrats will continue to lose political power as they continue to display the radical and unproductive behaviors that only make a successful terrorist attack more likely. They only seem to respond to things that restrict their access to power so sooner or later they will realize that their own behavior is what is causing their slide toward obscurity as a political force. If they figure that out soon enough, they can change their ways in time but if they don't ...

If the Libs who comment here are representative of the base of the Democrat Party (a pretty safe assumption), then I don't see them coming to that realization any time soon. Too bad, too, because a vibrant political system in which two ideological opposed parties compete on the basis of their ideas would be much healthier for the future of the country.

Only 85 days left, and we'll see whether or not any of the polls cited by the Lefties are accurate. My personal belief is that the majority of people who are not ideologically driven by BDS will vote based on their pocket book and personal safety. I don't see the Donks winning on either of those issues.

I've been pulled aside several times at the airport mainly because I have a beard.

It's kind of funny; relatively darked skinned + dark hair + beard = terrorist.

The funnier thing is, I don't look arab at all. I'm actually a Euro-mutt genetically, but because they think I'm Muslim (due to the beard), I have to get screened multiple times everytime I fly. It's quite pathetic.

I completely agree with profiling for security purposes, but why stop at arabs? They should profile each group according to the threat they pose (which could be figured by the makeup of people who get arrested on terror charges). That would make roughly 60% of the people screened Arab, a few Irishmen, some mid-western white guys, a few black people, some chicanos, and maybe 0.5% of them will be old women from south georgia :-p.

Well, I won't trust Bush on terrorism until the ports and borders are secure...

Everyone wants to beat around the bush about what is going on here!!...we are supposed to represent christains and holiness. we all know is happening...two versus from the bible come to mind at this moment

2 Chronicles 7:14:

14If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

(this is what we need in america today, repentance)

Genesis 12:3:

3And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed

(this is why it is of upmost importance that we as a nation stand by the side of Israel)Gods promise t Abraham will remain intact throghout the end times...pray that America stands by Israel through thich and thin, for our sakes not Israels

The donks have some comflicting views on "the war on terror" whcih they trot out to suit the occassion:

1. There is terror threat...The "war on terroro" is all trumped up by Bush to scares us into surrendering our constitutional rights.

(Yet few if any can cite what constitutional rights have been violated much less surrendered)

2. We are LESS SAFE today than on 9/12. (This is particularly amusing in light of the fact that at they same time they same there is no terror threat.

3. Bush and Homeland security have failed to defend the country. (an interesting argument in view of 1 & 2 above and the fact that half a decade has gone by and we haven't been attacked. This is also used in convoluted logic to prove that there is no terror threat).

In addition, with all the conspiracy theories floating around, there seem to be more conspiracy theorists on the left than stars in the sky.

All in all the dems would be a group to be pittied if they and their twisted ideas weren't so dangerous to our national security.

Posted by: phnxbmed at August 14, 2006 02:21 PM

phnx, I couldn't agree with you more--on one hand, there's no terror threat, and we're just playing the fear card. OTOH, we're no safer, and they're playing the fear card. It's an alternative universe with the donks.

And speaking of fear-mongering, they use it all the time. They warn the elderly that their SS checks won't come if they elect Republicans; the tell everyone all the jobs will be outsourced if Republicans are elected. They use healthcare. And none of it ever pans out. Yet, when we use a real issure, they cry "foul." Hypocrites, that's what they are. War

If Democrats win back control, you can expect the apologizing to start immediately. I wouldn't doubt it to see them try to reinstate Saddam once again and abandon the Iraqi and Afghani peoples, just like they did the Vietnamese, Bay of Pigs Invaders, Lebanon and Somalis.

I'm sure some bill will get passed raising our taxes sky-high so we can send Al Aqaeda money to rebuild their shattered nerves.

Lefties don't believe terrorism is real and even if a suicide bomber blew up their families, they'd still be lookingt for who to apologize to and blame George Bush.

In October, 2003, the morbidly obese and unwashed icon of liberals everywhere, Michael Moore, wrote:

There is no terrorist threat in this country. This is a lie. This is the biggest lie we've been told.
