What makes Barone think that the partisanship would cease because it's a McCain/Lieberman presidency? The way the dems cast out one of their own because he supports the security of this country indicates to me that the partisanship is only going to get worse(especially if we continue to succeed in the war on terror). There are plenty of conservatives that would wage this war just as well and at the same time make sure our domestic policy doesn't continue to go the the wolves. My pick for '08 would be George Allen and anyone he chooses to run with him.

If that were truly the choice for the GOP, I would switch parties and I despise Democrats. McCain is a snake plain and simple. Nothing...NOTHING could be worse for the GOP than this.

I'm a "libertarian for Lieberman." McCain/Lieberman is okay. But even better would be Jesse Ventura/Joe Lieberman.

I would trust McCain with almost any other politician, but this is actually a very good idea. McCain understands how to fight a war, and what it can cost to not stay in until you win. I used to hope that Sen Hagel would be his running mate, but lately I have gotten very discouraged by what he has said.
With Lieberman, the ticket would get more support from moderates on the left and centrists that right now must be feeling very disenfranchised. I hope McCain will consider this, even if they have to run as independents or in a third party.

McCain understands how to fight a war
That is not shown by his constant sniping from the sidelines at the Bush administration's efforts to win this war. And for what purpose? To become liked? To give the liberals more ammo? He has done more than his share to hurt the war effort. As a formal Naval officer, he knows about the mandate to support the Commander-in-Chief yet he totally ignored that.
Seven years in a POW camp as a captive does not qualify him to "know how to fight a war." It does, however, raise my suspicions of him as a "Manchurian Candidate."

Rev,
There is a lot of conservative doubt about McCain - I share it; he is too eager for friendship with the MSM...but, the man did endure years in the Hanoi Hilton for us, even when he could have gotten out easy. I don't trust him on economic and social policy, but I do trust him on the war, and the war is the most important thing in my view.
I'd feel better about it if one more liberal justice could be replaced by GW...

Getting shot down and captured and being imprisoned and tortured (all of which he endured) do not prepare anyone for how to run a war or be Commander-in-Chief. He might be good at it or he might stink at it - no one knows. So all we have to go by is his past behavior, and that behavior stinks to high heaven. He's a snake I tell ya and he'll never convince more conservatives of anything else. His albatrosses are many, wild drinker, womanizer, and co-author of McCain-Feingold and other travesties are not things you hold up to show your qualifications. His opponents will rightly point them out. And Lieberman? You've got to be kidding.
