"...this nation is at war with Islamic fascists..."-President Bush
Straight out!

And..... cooperation between Western Intelligence agencies and PAKISTANI intelligence prevented this attack.
Note - the Brit's made the arrest today because they were afraid their surveillance was about to be blown. I wonder if that means the NYT had found out about it?

First off, I would like to thank the President, nay, the Commader in Chief, for taking time off of his vacation to stump in Wisconsin.
It is my pleasure to agree with the Commander, we are not only safer than before 9/11, but we are MUCH, MUCH safer. The difference is palatable.
To quote the Commader: "we're still not completely safe, because there are people that still plot and people who want to harm us for what we believe in."
So what do we do to make us still even MORE safer than we are right now?
I'm thinking one of them terrorists could be hiding hurtful things in their body cavities.
I hereby recommend full blown body cavity searches for all intercontinental flight passengers. All ages, 8 to 80, young or old, those terrorists have no bounds to their cruelty. It sounds a little extreme, but when we catch one of them terrorists keistering a minibomb or something you all will be thankful.
Just a thought.
May God bless our Commander in Chief, and all who support him unfailingly.

Raker you are so full of it. But, hey, if you want a cavity search, I am sure someone would be willing to give you one, just get arrested being as stupid as you sound.

Yeah, kj, I think CO would hook raker up with a "search..."

Kj and k - anything actually useful to add besides inane insults? We ARE safer. People hated us BEFORE Bush - accept it. Catching or killing our enemies does make us safer.
Your complete one-way "never admit when we do anything good" posts make us discount your input altogether.
It really makes you people look like insane hate machines.

I think that all this security the day AFTER we arrested these wackos is stupid. It's aimed at making the travelling public feel safe - by scaring the hell out of them and making travelling even more of a pain in the ass than it is.
Want me to feel safe on a plane? Let me carry the same .45 there I do everywhere else.
Posted by: Kahn at August 10, 2006 06:44 PM
Kahn, actually about 10 terrorists got away. The measures are to make sure they do not get on a flight and blow it up. As for that gun, only if you have the special bullets that will not pierce the skin of the plan or break a window, and possibly take the plane down.
Posted by: kjstrouble at August 10, 2006 07:05 PM
kjs - That will NOT bring a plane down. It's a myth. Mythbusters even says that. But anyways, I carry hollowpoints. And .45's are sloooowwww. And, well they would be hitting a terrorist - not a window.
But these 10 guys that got away ( I guess I haven't read that anywhere). So what? If the Brits have been watching the group for a while, seems like LAST week would have been the time to do this. Maybe I'm skeptical. But looking at the crazy rules so far, I think it's for public consumption more than anything else - the security rules I mean.
They won't let you take a knife - any knife. I usually carry a small swiss army knife (when not flying), the kind with a nail file and scissors. You'd have to be a SEAL on acid to think you could take a plane over with that thing. And how could you if everyone else had theirs also?
Right after 9/11 idiot guards at one of the airports tried to confiscate the Medal of Honor from the retired Marine General former governor of one of the Dakotas (I forget which). He was on his way to give the commencemenmt address at Annapolis. What a bunch of idiots. We better take his Medal of Honor it's got five points! He told them to f*&k off.
I saw pictures of the National Guard helping out today. They were not even armed. What the hell good are they then? If it was a REAL threat, they'd have machine guns.
We are Americans. The Constitution says the Right to bear arms shall not be abridged. Seems to me its not only being abridged but tubes of toothpaste are now counted as arms? No liquids? Watch out when they do the same thing to trains, and busses. Hey, maybe to cabs. It's crazy.

kjs - think about it. The liberals accuse Bush of creating an atmosphere of fear. Yet in the same breath, you say it's OK to confiscate deoderant and toothpaste because they could be weapons. COULD be. They are also thinking of preventing iPOS, PC's, Cell phones. Anything with a battery. You are helping to propogate the atmosphere of fear!
Have confidence in yourself and your fellow Americans. Search for bombs and explosives - yes. Seaarch for and identify terrorists? Yes. Restrict our Constitutional rights? No. The ONLY attack thwarted on 9/11 was by citizens with what they had in their pockets. Every attempt at doing something in a plane since then has been thwarted by citizens with their bare hands. If we are ALL in the fight then we should act together.
But, honestly most people are like cattle. Not much thinking going on. Most people would never attack a terrorist. Based upon liberals refusal to serve in the military, I guess thats even MORE true of them.

Check this out:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Muslim groups criticized President Bush on Thursday for calling a foiled plot to blow up airplanes part of a "war with Islamic fascists," saying the term could inflame anti-Muslim tensions.
Not that blowing yourself and a bunch of civilians up wouldn't do the same.
Kahn, I don't know what give you the idea that I am contrary to your position--I'm not.
As for the insults, sometimes they're necessary. Besides, I don't address the trolls directly anymore. They're idiots, and a waste of time. War

I, for one, support the Administration's efforts to improve safety in the United States.
I support their program to hire more police and fire personnel, and to improve their training, pay, and benefits.
I support their efforts to tighten security at airports and ports, their allocation of millions on improved scanning equipment, training, and arms.
I support the overhaul of the Homeland Security Agency and the streamlining of its efforts.
I support the government's demands of the airline industry to produce safer planes, with onboard scanners and layouts which make defending the cockpit from attack a lot easier.
I support the government's decision to have the chemical industry create an explosives database, detailing how each substance can be detected, and to demand that all commercially made explosives have a chamical additive that sensors can detect through just about any wrapping.
All these actions by the government have made Americans much safer.

keefer. yah, don't get sucked into the insult war. They draw you into that when they're out of arguments - rather than admit you're right.

Even though I'm a Democrat, I have to say the President hit the nail on the head today. I am sick of all this politically correct B.S about Islam. The Muslim community seems more concerned about the impact of Bush's comments on their public image than they are about the fact that their brothers across the pond just tried to blow up ten airliners and kill thousands of people! If the Muslim community wants respect, let them root out the cancer in their midst. Surely seven million Muslims, the vast majority of whom are no doubt "peace loving," as we are often reminded, can root out a few bad apples!
