Lamont's Victory Is A Victory For Republicans

Make no mistake about it, last night's primary victory for Lamont will become a huge victory for President Bush and the Republicans. Joe Lieberman got up and brushed himself off, quickly defying leaders of his party, and moved forward with his independent campaign for his Senate seat. The liberal netroots may be happy right now over this "victory," but this victory will come a huge cost for them in the long run.

So, let me be the first to thank the Kossacks and the rest of the netroots for your contribution in Lamont's victory last night, the joke will be on you in November.

Joe Lieberman, running as an Independent, will win in November.

Let me say this, I'm not a huge fan of Lieberman. I'm glad he wasn't elected Vice-President. But, he's a Democrat who is right on the war on terror, and when such a combination normally mixes like oil and water, that might just be enough. He's no Zell Miller, but I still look forward to the forthcoming duel between him and Lamont in November.

Lieberman's first act of defiance toward the party that nominated him as their vice-presidential candidate 6 years ago was his promise to press forward and continue his candidacy, and it will not be his last. If Democrats campaign heavily against him, Lieberman, upon winning his seat, will have no reason to remain loyal to his party, and could decide to caucus with Republicans, especially if they make it worth his while. In an election many believe could tip the balance of power, who knows what Joe might do if he holds a real grudge.

And what does last night's election inform us about the direction of the Democratic Party? When Bush said that when it comes to the war on terror you are either with us or against us, he received plenty of criticism, but clearly far-left Democrats have basically said the same thing to members of their party. While they claim to praise the independence of Republicans like John McCain, they boot out members of their own party who dare to be independent thinkers.

And really, what was Joe's crime? Like virtually all Democrats, he supported using military force against Saddam Hussein. Throughout the 1990's that was a position shared by many in the Democratic Party, including John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, etc. etc. etc. But, when Democrats decided to politicize the war on terror and make it a campaign issue, they had to oppose Bush. Joe, true to his convictions, chose not to change his mind for the sake of politics.

So, here we are today, the man nearly elected Vice-President six years ago by his party has now been thrown out in the garbage. The radical left, cheering today, will most certainly find their happines short-lived.

UPDATE: Jonathan notes a victory for conservatism from last nights primary elections... Mark notes the Democrats' journey from courage to cowardice...

I hope that Lieberman stays independent.

The problem with politics today isn't Democrats or Republicans; it's that you only have them to choose from...

Lieberman will probably crush Ned as an Independent. And in '08, Giuliani will crush Hitlary. War

Lieberman is one of those rare (any more) lefties who can understand the idea that America's enemies can truly be evil, something the "old left" (JFK, Scoop Jackson, etc.) knew quite well. If I were a Republican (instead of not belonging to any party), I would offer to trade McCain to the Democrats for Lieberman, and throw in Connie Morella.

By the way, George Bush II is not the only one who said that everyone would have to be with us or against us. Guess who else did? Go to http://www.freedomagenda.com/iraq/wmd_quotes.html and look at the top entry, or go to http://www.wavsource.com/news/20010911a.htm and see the third wav from the top. (Sorry, don't know how to put a link into the comments, so you'll just have to copy and paste.)

I have a sneaking suspicion that if Lieberman had won, there'd be an article entitled "Lieberman's victory is a victory for republicans."

Something about the wack-job left's message being rejected at the polls... you can extrapolate from there.

Personally, I think McKinney's and Joe's defeats show that the dems are ready for action at the polls. Which is a good harbanger for the them.

Realistically, the past few elections have been so close that anyone who is claiming insight into what's going to happen in November is just trying to justify their hopes.

I think the biggest advantage the dems have in November is that republicans have been in charge for 8 years and thinks aren't so rosey in the US and around the world.

George Will made the point that someone will use some form of Reagan's "are you better off than you were four years ago" line. With an unpopular war, high gas prices, an economy that's showing warning signs of inflation, the cluster-f*ck Lebenon along with the lack of action by the US there... all those things are in the dems favor.

We'll see what happens.

Tom, you are on to something. Noonan always spins every political act in this country to be great for Republicans. Not just good, but great. Almost reminds me of the black knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Here is some dialog to get you laughing:

Black Knight

Posted by: Brokeback [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 9, 2006 04:47 PM

Matt: "And really, what was Joe's crime?"

If you ask me, Joe's "crime" was the fact that he ran a bad campaign. From start almost to finish, he conducted himself with a level of arrogance that just turned people off. If he wants to win in November (and I believe he can) he has to knock that chip off his shoulder and speak from the heart. That shouldn't be too hard, he's pretty well known for that. His problem is pride. And I don't know what his staff was telling him, but just on the face of it I would say a serious shake-up of his campaign people wouldn't hurt either.

Posted by: Ricorun [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 9, 2006 04:48 PM

Sorry, I realize this post was by Matt now, not Noonan. Anyway, the black knight reference still holds. First post I have seen Matt make that actually includes more than one sentence of his own and then a huge copy and paste of some other person's ideas. Moving up in the world. Now, maybe he will actualy engage in the discourse and defend his argument. Doubtful, shows you how much he actually believes what he says.

Posted by: Brokeback [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 9, 2006 05:14 PM

I think it's interesting that this blog has expended four posts in two days on Lieberman, but not mentioned at all the fact that in Michigan, Republicans turned out an incumbent supported by Bush in favor of a more conservative one. There's a pretty clear trend here, it doesn't have much to do with right or left, and it is an ominous one for Bush.

This is why Republicans and Democrats who support Bush *should* lose in Novemeber.

Here is a quote from Bush:

"I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees." (when asked about Hurricane Katrina)

The incompetence and lack of knowledge is impossible to disguise.

Now this next quote comes from our "enemy," which I do not support in any way. I merely post it to show that common sense never comes from the Bush Administration.

"[George W. Bush] believes that his power emanates from his nuclear warhead arsenals. The time of the bomb is in the past, it's behind us. Today is the era of thoughts, dialogue and cultural exchanges."

Joe lost to the people because they are tired of the "stay the course" mentality that is dragging this nation down. Under the Bush Regime we have lost our economic, scientific, moral and leadership edge. We lost a foriegn country and an entire American city.

Let's "change course" before we loose our entire nation.

I worked for a health club, a number of years ago in the DC area, which a lot of politicians were members of. I could rattle off a handful of them. Liberman was one of them.

He wasnt the most likeable person, to say the least.

Just a little side note. LOL

Just a few years ago, Joe Lieberman was part of a presidential ticket that many Bush supporters referred to as "Sore Loserman." Who was the "Loserman" of that team? And remember, it was the Republicans who hung that name on Lieberman. Strange that Lieberman is so popular around here all of a sudden.

Posted by: three dots [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 9, 2006 05:41 PM

Three dots:

Republicans were against Lieberman before they were for him.

It's amazing that Republican's can pin that flip-flop label on Democrats when they in reality change their positions as it suits their pursuit of power.

I have a different take -- it's good for the GOP, yes. But it's bad for the far-right, especially us bloggers.

CO, TOM SHIPLEY,

Why do you hate-mongers care?

I heard it on FOX NEWS!! Can't you accept that?

NO!! you hate-mongers don't care about Israel!!!!!
You don't care if some idiot is out to terrorize them for doing no wrong!!

You don't even care about your own country and the things going on around you, you even hate our loyal and dedicated military men and women for protecting your sorry necks!!
You are a sorry bunch, No two ways about it!!

All you care about is SELF POWER, CONTROL, CONTROL!!

Well, I'm sorry!! but America is too good of a place, to let you hate-mongering radicals take over!!

America needs people like George W. Bush, I THANK GOD SO MUCH! for George W. Bush!! He has been a man of great honor and courage!! America will not have another one like him!!
He has spared the world the anguish of terrorist around the globe, I would go so far as to say he puts me in the mind of the kindest man on the planet!!!!
Yet you PUTRED HATE FILLED DEMOCRATS never cease to try and tear his image down!!

We sure don't need any of you evil minded liberals that's for sure!!

George Bush is the best president we have EVER had!!
And it would be too much of a risk to take to let some Liberal demoralcrap take over!! and that's why I am fighting!, even though I know very little about politics! I care about my country too much, this war for morality and peace and for America as a whole it just means too much to me!!
And I will fight with what little knowledge and with every ounce of strength left in me that I have to try to help my conservative friends and save America from the Evil Minded Liberal Democrts!!
The left-wing is nothing but a disaster waiting to happen to America!!
You should have listened to Mr. Horowitz on Fox News last night, He said about the democrats what EVERYONE should know about them, He said they are a DANGER TO AMERICA!! THAT'S FACT! And it is time for us conservatives to stand and show our might and good will to turn you people down!!
This is a struggle that I am not going to waver!!
Our young people depend on us too much! to keep them on the right track!!

And I am not alone in this battle, just like the story about the three men who were thrown into the fiery furnace, people believe that no-one could survived that fire and the people standing their thought that the three were alone, but just in time praise God!! There was not three in there but four, and Who was the other one? JESUS!!
And President George Bush reminds me of Jesus!, When the liberal fire came there was somebody there who cared!

Now go away, Until you can find kindness within your hearts!!

Tom Shipley

Iran has threatened Armageddon (it was reported on Fox News today) on Israel; on the 22nd of this month.
No it's not from Berkley or other college.
It was mentioned by the outspoken leader of Iran.
This man is a very dangerous person. His co-horts
(terrorists) that have invaded Lebanon and have taken control of that government must be pushed back, so that the Good Lebanese people can once again control their own country, without the advice or control of the Hezbollah, Iran, Syria, or the United Nations, or France. ESPECIALLY THE LAST TWO.
I believe the world will be a safer place to live.
Why do you think no political pressure is being put on Israel from our own country?
Because our President sees the danger the terrorists pose to the American People.
And why the democrats can't see that is beyond me.

The only reason Liberman was not elected yesterday was because the majority of the people who came to the polls were democrats.
The good people of Maine realise what a good man Liberman is and the truth he stands for.
But regardless of whether his opponent stands for truth or not, the head of the Democratic party has once again stuck their foot in their mouth and hopefully on election day, the American People will push for the Independent Liberman.
And overall the Republicans will once again be put into office to run our capitol and congress.
Mind you, the folks are not stupid in America, and the Democrats know that very well.
Why do you think Ms. Hillary is acting so moral in her decisions when she's public.
Because she knows the Moral Majority in America will STAND FOR TRUTH AND RIGHT.
That's all I have for now.

FACT: Jesus is DEAD and has been for quite some time. What do you not understand about that?

Ahhhh. An airhead who tosses around words like "fact" and "understand" when he/she/it knows no fact nor understands the simple fact that he/she/it is clueless, much less factless. Hey, Einstein, how is it a "fact" that Jesus is dead? Did he ever live? Don't you have to live before you're considered dead? So how do you know that he lived? Did you see him? Now don't tell me you got this "fact" out of the Bible, because that presents you with a different dilemma, namely, if you believe the Bible speaks the truth, then you have to believe that Jesus is NOT dead, but rather his lives on his throne in Heaven, having risen from the dead.

So if you didn't use the Bible, then what did you use? Ouija boards? Tarot cards? the Koran? And if you did, then YOU are DEAD - dead wrong that is if the Bible is to be believed. So what is so hard to understand this simple contradiction in which you find yourself mired? Is Jesus dead? How do you know? Did he ever live? How do you know? I don't think you do. And I am not very surprised either. I'm an atheist and I'm nowhere near as confused as you seem to be.

Jeremiah,

If what you say is true, that Jesus is in heaven, then in FACT he is DEAD. Isn't that the definition of being dead? That one is no longer of this world? Where then is my confusion?

People who live their lives by ancient religions are fools. You may as well believe in Zeus or Allah for all the good it will do. Yea, I know, you believe in the one true god. Think about that for a minute, how foolish is that? Over the ages there have been many one true gods and their followers all believed as you do. Who is right then eh? Once again, yea, I know, you are the only group in the history of Earth that is right. Sure, that makes sense to me.

Fact is, he will get a small portion of the vote behind both the (D)and(R) candidates.

Indpendants rarely even come close and in the few times that have, they are immensely popular with their constitutients, something Joe is definately NOT, having not visited his home state even once since winning the seat until it was required for him to return to campaign for the primary.

Joe is gone and gone for good, good riddance to bad rubbish

Allow me to say something if I might ...

3moreyears you, as the Rev labeled you, are an airhead. More than that, you are a fool ... just wanted to let ya know.

CO, ya really need to stop coming around here spewing your garbage. Because the more you do, the more the Republicans are just gonna pick you and your flousy arguements apart, piece by piece. Especially the Rev, I must say he has been doing an outstanding job of that.

axis, we got a bone to pick now ...

Lemme tell ya something man, the only hypocrit around here is you and all the other cronies that are whining all day along about how President Bush is a murderer. Well I got some good advice for ya man. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!! Get out of whatever dream world you are in, and realize the fact that we are SAVING LIVES by pursuing the war in Iraq. Those people have lived under the foot of communism and terrorism for quite a while now, and many of those people were being tortured and killed by Saddam Hussein and are now being killed by the terrorists. These people are killed at the stroke of a pen just for trying to exercise freedom. Think that's bad, wait until they try to switch religions. They are hunted down like dogs by the Islamo-Fascists. Be it to Christianity or another religion, their religion teaches to kill the infidels (a.k.a. - those who don't do exactly what they do and believe the way they do.) Think I'm wrong? Pick up a copy of the Koran sometime, it'll tell ya right there in the pages.

The religion itself is half the reason of this battle that is goin on. These people want to dominate the whole world, and MAKE people serve that false god, that dead god, that god that doesn't exist any longer. The list goes on and on. So get your head out of your hind-end and wake up.

Allow me to say this. With war and trying to help those weaker than you are, there comes sacrifice. Right now we are engaging and paying the highest order of sacrifice that there is. Why? So that those who are weaker and less fortunate than us can stand a chance and have some hope. To try and benefit the younger generation, and so that they can learn from their Elders mistakes. Not only that but TO PROTECT the homeland. These Islamo-Fascists want world domination, and I GUARANTEE you, if we pull out, it'll just be a matter of time before they re-group and attack US Soil again.

So please, take thought to what you say before calling others hypocrits. Because right now the blame lay at your own door. You root for baby murdering, and to see gays married, and all other sorts of vomitous things. Things that are surreal, that have no place in a civilized society that was founded upon God's holy rules. If the fore-fathers saw the shape the country was in today, I guarantee you they would be takin some names and goin after some of the people that enacted a lot of these laws. And all they would be goin after would be democrats.

At any rate, I know I could talk till I'm blue in the face and it won't do any good, but I can't just sit back and do nothing at all. You democrats are pathetically sickening ...

Lucas.

TEB, Three more years & axis, Just remember one thing! Jesus Christ died for you as well. It really doesn't matter if your a warmonger who believes in peace by superior firepower or a liberal pacifier who believes peace is for them only! Jesus loves you, died for you, spent time in hell for you, and then broke the chains of death, hell & sin "FOR YOU"! It is fact, and to a true christian of whom has experianced the ultimate mercy & compassion of Christ, there is no convincing otherwise! This would also explain our profound understanding of wrong vs. right, good vs. evil, & common sense vs. liberalism! Good night, sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite! See you in November, Bwahahaaaahaaaaahaaaaaaaahaaahaahaaaaaaa!!!!!!!

Axis, I'll add you to my prayer list. God loves you!

-- I see, so in your eyes, it does not matter how evil or sadistic you are, its all the same in the end is it? Jeffrey Dahlmer is sitting up there in the pearly gates beside Mary and John Wayne Gacy is playing poker with Noah huh?

LOL. No wonder you have no problems with killing, murders, rapes and general mayhem, its all forgiven in your eyes.

You need some serious help and you need to find a new church. Sounds like your church is preaching its ok to mug and rape that old lady instead of helping her to cross the street.

TEB, Three more years & axis, Just remember one thing! Jesus Christ died for you as well. It really doesn't matter if your a warmonger who believes in peace by superior firepower or a liberal pacifier who believes peace is for them only! Freedom1, say a prayer for yourself first, you are going to need them far more than I ever will...

Posted by: axis [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 10, 2006 05:33 AM

Freedom,

"TEO, Christians aren't the ones staring at Hell. You are."

Well, if you're wrong, and let's say that he Jews are right, then you have screwed everyone who bought into your Pauline Christianity, so YOU would be the one staring at Hell.

I really could care less, my religion doesn't have a Hell, Peace.

Wow Axis, I really hope nobody is paying you for this stuff. You really, really suck as a spinmiester!

Yes, if Dalhmer gave his heart to Christ before he died then He may be. Have you ever read about Paul and all the awful things he did to men, women, & children. Are mercy & compassion even a part of your limited vocabulary?

axis says:

*clearing throat*, I think I have been extremely clear that I do have a problem with those things, which is why I have 100% supported Pres. Bush in taking out Saddaam(and still do)! In that context, it would be YOU & your CO-HORTS that don't have a problem with evil & evil men! Which would explain your constant defense of terrorist and their ilk and your constant attacks of our leaders, spiritual & political! It amazes me that smart people such as yourselves can't see just how ass-backwards your thinking is! It's O.K. tho Axis, Jesus loves you too, all you have to do is confess it & believe it in your heart and you too could be playing poker with Noah & Mary(I don't know about the other two).

By the way, my church does more good (monetarly & physically)for muslims & muslim countries than you could accomplish in 100 lifetimes. We have 2 hospitals in Haiti, I have a cousin that runs an orphanage in Monrovia, my best friends just adopted two brothers from Liberia, we have missionaries that give medical as well as spiritual care in Indonesia, and we support each and every one of them monetaraly as well as with prayers & visits etc. So Axis, what have you done for the poor and the needy lately. I'm sure your blogging has a lasting affect on their lives!

Nice try spinmiester!!!!

No , Liberalism has a Hell. It's Republican controlled government and all us Americans are suffering through it. Tick ..tock.. tick.. tock.. not for much longer though.

Leftorium, That is probably the single most gratifying thing in the midst of all the treason, traitorism, & and anti-americanism you lefty's spew, is knowing that this is like hell to you. Of course I don't feel sorry for your stupid self inflicted assylum, although I will feel ultimately sorry for you if you don't commit your life to Christ "before" you lose it! Then I will feel very sorry for you, If you think this is hell, whach out for what is coming. Selah!

Bearman-
So anyone who dissents from your views on how this country should work is anti-american? How arrogant.

Don't worry I feel just fine especially now that there's light at the end of this conservatist tunnel. However I can only imagine the wailing and knashing of teeth that will be eminating from you and your conservatist buddies after November. You are going to have such a power hangover. LOL
Tell you the truth I have been enjoying watching an old saying play itself out in the conservatist circle.

“Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.”
Samuel Johnson (English Poet, Critic and Writer. 1709-1784)

See you in November...........LOL
