Matt,
The MSM is making hay over this because it portends the fate of those that Melhman calls, "Brand-W" Republicans. This is going to be a very sticky situation, where most of the incumbents are going to have to disassociate themselves from the President's policies, and are going to lose some of the 'capital' of what the Whitehouse would have preferred to be a glow-by-proxy, instead of tarnish by disaster.
What about Sabelius? She doesn't seem to have a problem saying she is a Dem in the heart of Red-territory.

Yet the press barely speak of the vile comments the Democrats throw at this man. Just as they barely spoke about it when the DEMOCRATS ILLEGALLY OBTAINED HIS CREDIT REPORT in an attempt to dig up dirt.

Keep throwing that dirt Kahn. LMAO!!!!!
Yea , if you throw it hard enough it may erase the fact that Steele actually said what he did. LOL!!!
"Congress should just shut up and get something done," that the Iraq war "didn't work" and "we didn't prepare for the peace," that the response to Hurricane Katrina was "a monumental failure of government," and that "there's a palpable frustration right now in the country." - Michael Steele
I don't think we're going to see this guy standing on a stage with the Decider anytime before November. Judging by Steele's polls numbers we won't be seeing him much more anyway. LMAO!!!!!!!!

Not just ANY Democrat, but the Chairman of the DSSC, Chuckie Schumer:
Lt. Gov. Steele was extremely disturbed to learn about the alleged criminal identity theft of his personal finance records by (a staff member of U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.,) at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

No, see Rich, it's OK for Democrats to do stuff like this because they're the ends-justifies-the-means party -- it's for the greater good, or for the planet or the children or whatever.

See... TEO & Leftorium thinks it's okay because it was illegal, but in their mind for a good cause...
after all, their political boyfriend, John Kerry, said as much when government officials violated federal security/secrecy laws... "they did an illegal act for a good cause."
So in that logic, they could kill Steele if it keeps a Republican from office.

Isn't you who are denying facts?
I'm asking you guy's why are you AVOIDING the topic at hand. You raised it. It isn't "did the Democrats illegally obtain a credit report." It's about Michael Steele pointing out that being a republican in this election cycle is hazardous to your political health. Why is that? Why would a loyal republican in a very red state say such a thing? Why is it that not only he, but most republicans, are running from the president and his policies in this time of election? WHY????!!! And it's not just the president he's running from, he doesnt want to be seen as the status quo republican. WHY???!!!! I thought you guy's were doing so well.
Well let's look at some of Michael Steele's own words.
"Congress should just shut up and get something done," that the Iraq war "didn't work" and "we didn't prepare for the peace," that the response to Hurricane Katrina was "a monumental failure of government," and that "there's a palpable frustration right now in the country." - Michael Steele
You know what, he sounds like .....dare I say it? A Democrat!!!! Shock!!
Look it's obvious you guy's are in a state of shock over this and maybe it would be best if you waited until tomorrow to comment with the latest spin from Ken Melhman. Right now all you're doing is trying to hack up some old talking points to fight this latest revelation of doom.

Do Dems in blue states ever criticize the dems for local consumption? Never happened huh? Your lack of integrety on this non-issue is astonishing. This was Republican strategy, gone awry. Steele is in an awkward position, running as a Conservative Republican in a heavily Democratic state. Bush and the Iraq war are extremely unpopular in Maryland. About 40% of the state is black, and Steele needs to attract about 25% of the black vote to win. Blacks are notoriously anti-Bush, and blame him for the debacle in New Orleans. Although Steele was recruited by Karl Rove, and has a 3 million dollar war chest, thanks to fundraisers hosted by Bush, Cheney , Rove and Mehlman, he has to distance himself from them to have any hope of winning. But he can't openly offend the Republican establishment either. So he chose this stunt, then acted betrayed because his remarks were published and he was identified.
So we have a Conservative Republican who professes to be anti-war and against the Bush administration- I guess he's running as a Democrat! Love the way he said being a Republican was like wearing a scarlet letter around his neck---that's how popular the decider is-why not face it Bushbots?

Does this defense work for captains of ships? CEO's. Any kind of boss? I thought they were responsible for what their people did. Also, WBAL News reported:
Collins reported that the two employees have since resigned and committee officials said they have destroyed the document. The committee said they have immediately reported the incident to the Washington, D.C., U.S. Attorney's Office, and have since issued an apology.
Since, as a commenter at Captain's Quarters said:
To obtain a report legally, a signature authorization is required and information is required to obtain the report. The access of the report is a crime. The distribution of the report is a crime. The acceptance and READING of the report is a crime. If someone gave the people accessing the report personal information required to obtain the report, they also committed a crime. Using any of the data on the report against someone is distribution and may even have other criminal elements attached if consideration was requested.
Period.
I think its clear that the DSSC, in destroying the document was in fact destroying evidence. You don't do that unless there's something incriminating in the documents, like hand-written comments, etc., that can be traced to someone, say, a committee member or its chair. The researchers who did this crime were never prosecuted. They were kept on the payroll of the DSSC for more than a month AFTER they were exposed as identify thieves. Want to guess who OK's the paychecks and why?

Maryland is an interesting state. The west, in the mountains is deer hunting Republican territory. But it doesn't have many people. The middle and into Montgomery County is very very liberal. Fully moonbat. Baltimore County and Prince Georges County are heavily black. They vote Dem - because they are bought off with public money.
Steele is a black guy in that environment. Did he say it was a Scarlet letter? Sure. But remember who else was affected by that letter in the story? The viscous and hateful democrats in Maryland have made it difficult for a black man to run for Governor as a Republican. I'm just across the river in Virginia and you should read and hear the attacks on him. Vomitorium - there is more to this story than you realize.
Is your chest itchy?

I'm from California and except for local elections most California Republicans don't press the "R" that much. Heck even Arnold isn't hitting the "R" that much and is trying to run more on being Arnold than anything else. It's what we do in Blue states just like Reid did in Nevada. It's all part of the game.

Interesting, ahhhhh just how was I "proven" wrong? You mean that lame attempt at diverting from what Steele is saying about his own party.
Oh no!!! It's really all about Schumer and his staff ,not about Steele saying that he's got a big red "R" on his chest, noooo!!!!!!!
Look if you want to avoid the fact that your party is in open war with itself ( BTW that's what's really weakening your president) that's your business, but don't say that I'm diverting from the topic just to keep from addressing the tough questions.
You guy's have a wonderful system going on here. If a democrat questions you, attack the democrats. If a republican questions you, attack the democrats. Remember, always attack the democrats.

You know something, I really do feel for you. I'm sure that it must be absolutly the hardest thing in the world to be a republican. I mean you can't come out to your family because they might disown you. You know, you walk down the street in your hometown and you look at other people and you get that fear and start to think" do they know I'm a republican?". You wonder if you might lose your job if they find out you're a republican. You go to church and hear how you'll be going to hell just because you have right wing tendencies. You have to keep all of your right wing "parafonalia" under your matress in your bedroom. You know what I'm talking about all those pictures of Ronald Reagan or Dick Cheney waving to the crowd kind of suggesting a slight zich heil. Very hot stuff. God what if one of neighbors saw you at a republican bar and it got back to your family? OMG!!!! You can't even be seen in public holding hands with another republican!!! Think about the old days when they used to lynch republicans in the south or in Nazi Germany. How about when republican rode aqt the back of the bus or drank from separate water fountains. Thank God we're past those days. We're making progress. I know its a long hard road ahead but I believe, one day , we will have a right wing Christian in the Whitehouse!!! I KNOW YOU SAY THAT'S CRAZY TALK, BUT I TELL YOU I'VE SEEN IT. I MAY NOT GET THERE WITH YOU BROTHERS AND SISTERS, BUT I HAVE SEEN THE PROMISE LAND!!
Now seriously, that didn't sound half as stupid as your many little speeches about the "violence" against republicans. Seems like it's your personal war.
Please, find a more plausable crusade, at least until the Fox war on christmas season comes around again. (rolling eyes and sighing)

"most of the incumbents are going to have to disassociate themselves from the President's policies...
Wrong. Oh so wrong. It is not Bush's POLICIES that are the problem. It is the relative success the Left has had in creating a personal animosity toward the man himself. Somehow, some way, the Left has managed to generate an entire industry of hatred---emotional, irrational, lie-based, loathing of a man.
Bush understands this. He knows, just as the rest of the country knows, that the opposition has not been based on POLICIES. What policies are reflected in the hate speech about flight suits, big ears, military service, Hitler, and the other filth spewed on a regular basis by the loonies on the far Left?
No, the total lack of policy development on the Left has been disussed ad nauseum here and in the mainstream media and the blogosphere. They can whine about ideas and plans other people have, but they can't come up with any alternatives of their own. The Party Of NO is an apt description. And merely being ANTI does not position anyone for success. The only thing the neorads have been able to do is spread enough garbage around that the stink is finally getting to people. Decent people have a hard time believing that so much could be said if none of it was true, and the campaign has gotten some legs because of that naivete on the part of most of the populace.
Those of us who have studied the neorad Left have seen it proved that they have the capability and the willingness to create lie after lie after lie, just to try to advance their cause. We spend the time and energy it takes to track down every wild-eyed fever swamp claim from the loonies, and don't fall prey to the "Where there's smoke there's fire" feeling that has moved some otherwise rational people into anti-Bush territory.
But Steele is not trying to distance himself from conservative POLICIES---he is just trying to get some space between him and the guy with the target on his back.

Almiranta- Steele is our Lieutenant Governor, so I think I know a little more about him than you do. He is criticizing the conduct of the war, Bush's response (or lack of a response) to Katrina, and is voicing the general frustration voters in Maryland are feeling towards Washington. That's why he's trying to package himself as an outsider-an Independent.
He IS socially conservative though- agrees with the administration on abortion, stem cell research and gay marriage. That in itself should put the last nail in the coffin, as Maryland is socially progressive on all three issues, and NIH does a huge amount of medical research in Bethesda.

If you have any doubts about that assessment I direct you to this line,

Scaramonga: I think its clear that the DSSC, in destroying the document was in fact destroying evidence. The researchers who did this crime were never prosecuted. They were kept on the payroll of the DSSC for more than a month AFTER they were exposed as identify thieves. Want to guess who OK's the paychecks and why?"
You might want to check out what the Department of justice has to say about the incident. I'm pretty sure the DoJ isn't part of the MSM, right?
It appears that it was frighteningly easy to obtain the report -- something everyone should be concerned about. Also, according to the DoJ, the report was electronically transmitted, printed out at Ms. Wiener's desk, and no one but Weiner saw the report. When she told her supervisor that she had it the supervisor told her to destroy it. Then her supervisor reported the incident to her superiors, who reported it to the US Attorney's Office the next day.
Weiner pled guilty and is awaiting sentencing, so when you say "no one was prosecuted", you're wrong. No on else was charged because the DoJ obviously felt no one else should be. You, of course, as your own personal judge and jury, might think otherwise. The DoJ seems to feel that no one attempted to cover up the wrong-doing, and the person responsible got nailed precisely because her superiors did the right thing. And yes, I do believe that's the way it's supposed to work on board ship and in business. Bush couldn't prevent Claude Allen from being an idiot either. But he did the right thing when the evidence against him became overwhelming.

All we have is the word of two or three people in the same organization that perpetrated the crime that there was "no harm no foul." How do we know they really destroyed the information. It is pretty easy to make backups. The DOJ report said she was ordered to destroy the information immediately. Yet she waited until the next day. Why? How long does it take to make a copy of the data to CD or floppy? How long does it take to delete a file? Excuse if I remain suspicious. This thing reeks.

Matt,
The MSM is making hay over this because it portends the fate of those that Melhman calls, "Brand-W" Republicans.

TEO & Leftorium = Intellectual ASSHATS.
Are you denying the facts leftorium? This didnt happen?

Rich: Are you denying the facts leftorium? This didnt happen?
To be fair, Rich, my understanding is that Schumer is the one that blew the whistle on his aide when he found out what she had done. So vilify the aide, not Schumer. He did the right thing in that case.
Oh my god he criticized the party! I guess we better run him out of town like old lieberman. As far as dems stealing the records, that is legitimate for this thread because thats who we are talking about. Nice dodge, but not good enough.
"Why would a loyal republican in a very red state say such a thing?" When did Maryland become a red state? Am I missing something Lefty? Do Dems in blue states ever criticize the dems for local consumption? Never happened huh? Your lack of integrety on this non-issue is astonishing. As far as this perfect storm for the dems, wish in one hand and crap in the other. See which one fills up faster.

THAT'S pure Keefer. LMAO!!!!
What, you can't post as one person? You need to look like you have friends? Just how many people do you need to be Cybil?
The gay bashing, the neurotic attention to what you consider proper writing, the double posting hang up you've got, and the similarities in syntax, no doubt.......case closed.
You post as Keefer, The Rev, and now as LFFGF SGSPN NE........absolutly pa-the-tic LMAO!!!!!
To be fair, Rich, my understanding is that Schumer is the one that blew the whistle on his aide when he found out what she had done. So vilify the aide, not Schumer. He did the right thing in that case.
Does this defense work for captains of ships? CEO's. Any kind of boss? I thought they were responsible for what their people did. Also, WBAL News reported:
Since, as a commenter at Captain's Quarters said:
I think its clear that the DSSC, in destroying the document was in fact destroying evidence. You don't do that unless there's something incriminating in the documents, like hand-written comments, etc., that can be traced to someone, say, a committee member or its chair. The researchers who did this crime were never prosecuted. They were kept on the payroll of the DSSC for more than a month AFTER they were exposed as identify thieves. Want to guess who OK's the paychecks and why?
Lefty, love how you work to change the subject when you are being proven wrong. What is the obsession you have with Keefer, Rev and LFFGF?
It is cases like Steele that make me ask liberal posters to renounce violence against Republicans. AGAIN, only two regular poster have. And Vomitorium is NOT one of them.
*Shrugs*
I'm from California and except for local elections most California Republicans don't press the "R" that much. Heck even Arnold isn't hitting the "R" that much and is trying to run more on being Arnold than anything else. It's what we do in Blue states just like Reid did in Nevada. It's all part of the game.
Oh I see- if a Democratic candidate had said what Steele said-he'd be accused of cutting and running and giving comfort to the terrorists. But there's no problem when a Republican comes out against Iraq and criticizes your precious Bush. Come on righties-admit your hypocrisy- its obvious to anyone reading your posts-might as well get it over with!
Leftorium-great quotes-your post made my day!
You post as Keefer, The Rev, and now as LFFGF SGSPN NE........absolutly pa-the-tic LMAO!!!!!
Not the Rev, Lefty; he's a friend from another blog, and he was blogging here long before we became infested with trolls and spoofs...

KSJ-
Interesting, ahhhhh just how was I "proven" wrong?
Heads you win, tails you win. Nice.
Look why don't you just talk about Steele and his comments, instead of trying to waterdown what happend by bashing Democrats? You're the one's running from this.
And as far as Keefer, Rev and blah blah ouerhtirie ( who cares) Like I said CASE CLOSED, no doubt. LOL

Kahn-
You know something, I really do feel for you.
"As far as dems stealing the records, that is legitimate for this thread because thats who we are talking about"
Rich -
Were talking about Michael Steele's comments, not his records. Stay with us brother.
And yet - you still refuse to renounce violence. You might want to check out my gun collection and my marine rifle expert badge.
Interesting too that you posted some VERY good examples of how dangerous gun control can be. The current gun laws in this country- are designed to restrict guns - from balcks and hispanics. Hitler made damn sure to confiscate civilian guns - as did Stalin.
Yet you go on an insulting rant against me. Then still refuse to renounce violence. OK. So be it. War.

You see, it's so easy. Just type "Of course I renounce violence against Republicans." Yet - you can't. Because you don't. You hate us. You want us hurt. You want us dead.
The hatred permeates your posts. It drips from your words. But you are so insane with it that you long ago lost the ability to recognize it. Your refusal marginalizes you. If anyone here DID take you seriously, how can they now that you are apparently advocating violence against them. Violence because it's justified - dammit!!!!

Ok here goes.
I r-e-ally think you need some counceling for your victim issues.
Truthfully, get some help. I'm not going to be defined by your neurosis.
Just couldn't bring yoursself to renounce violence could you Vomitorium? It would have been so easy. OK - Your a jerk.
Almiranta - good analysis. Thanks.
Darn it - you're jerk. Chose the wrong word.
So I guess lefty does believe Dems in red states always toe the Dem line. He also believes Maryland is a republican state. I am trying to stay with you lefty but your logic is so flawed I am starting to fall way behind. This whole thing really is a non-issue but it is interesting to see you continue to peddle your snake oil on it. hell I don't even think Steele has a shot at winning. Do I blame him for what he said in a blue state? No. Are the republicans going to drop him like Lieberman? I doubt it. Is the ct race a shining example of Dem unity to you?
Almiranta -
Again you’ve graced us with another very very long-winded post saying practically nothing.
I think you've just qualified yourself for the position of the Dale Gribble of conspiracy theorists here. That was indeed a masterpiece of self-delusion.
What you've just seen ladies and gentlemen is known as the "bunker mentality theory" in action.
Our leader didn't do anything wrong. It was that there was a nefarious campaign to bring him down and somehow, God knows how, these low life’s have finally succeeded. He did everything right. It was that the public let themselves be duped by the enemy from HIS goodness. They don't deserve HIM.
If you have any doubts about that assessment I direct you to this line,
"The only thing the neorads have been able to do is spread enough garbage around that the stink is finally getting to people. I'm as shocked as any of you neocons here that Bush has fallen so low in the polls. I mean how does a president go from a 90% approval rating to 33% approval in three years?!!
Look it wasn't the jokes about his big ears or the speech impediments or his lack of military service, or even the Hitler reference that did Bush in. Here it is conservativos, BUSH- WENT- TOO -FAR. HE-SCREWED-UP. And he doesn't deal well outside the box. Even Michael Steele says so. Now the public is pulling the leash on this guy. Don't blame the democrats. They didn't make the decisions; they just didn't have the power to disagree strong enough them.
YOU'RE DRIVING THE CAR; DON'T BLAME THE PASSENGERS BECAUSE YOU GOT LOST.

I wonder what "nolle prosequi" stands for, Ricorun.
The evidence was destroyed. She perpetrated a fraud, violated Federal Privacy Laws, and got a deferred sentence for a misdemeanor? Deferred until March 2007?
