We already have the War Party and now the Left is flushing all of the warmongers out of the Democratic Party, which will become the Peace Party. The core value of the Peace Party will be non-violence. Care to join yet,Matt? Peace

Mark,
You see signs of this in this very blog. Rarely (read that never) do the liberal posters actually have anything to say about the subject at hand. No solutions, no suggestions, simply nothing to add to the discourse except invective and insults. In the strings where you've asked if the hate Republicans, the answer was a resounding YES with justifications. But, where you've asked them to define what being progressive, or liberal means - they can't. They refuse to state a position on just about everything except that they are against whatever it is we propose. It is really laughable.
For example; Just what do the lefties propose we do in Iraq? What should we do about Korea? What should we do about Israel. What should we do to fix social security. And the list goes on. They refuse to state a solution for ANY subject. It is really hard to take them seriously.
Sadly, I know just who will respond here and what they will say.

Matt,
You make some good points here, to be sure there is division and disunity in the Democratic party. I tend to like disunity better than the mindless, lock-step self-deception that describes so many of the republican supporters today, but that's open to discussion, I guess.
You'll be happy to know that there is one thing about which there is absolute unity among Democrats (and among all sentient beings, as it turns out). That is that you are an asshole. It must be good to know that there is universal agreement on this point, Matt; you're a uniter, not a divider!

That has-been party is doomed and guess what? They did it to themselves. Soros, Kos, Michael Moore, Sheehan, Murtha and all the moonbats infected with BDS have ripped the party into shreds. Decent dems like Lieberman are savaged. They now go after fellow moonbat Boxer. Hillary is hated because she has the audacity to stand by her vote on the war. I love how the media throws out a poll each week showing the republicans in serious trouble this year, as though America actually believes the treasonous, lying democrats have the solution to the war on terror, which is quickly becoming WWIII. My gosh, all one has to do is throw holy water on a democrat and watch him melt like the witch on Wizard of Oz! These people aren't going to take either House in November. They will lose yet again and their hatred for Bush will cause them gnashing of teeth, sleepless nights,weight-loss and unceasing trips to the commode. Democrats foiled again at the strength of President Bush. Funny, no?

Many Democrats and liberals have posted ideas here, most of which are ignored. The most common response is to call them names (traitors, terrorists, etc.) I've said it before, and it was ignored, but I'll say it again just for fun.
MY IDEOLOGY:
Social/ moral issues: Leave me alone and I'll leave you alone. That means you don't tell me who I can marry, or what my wife can do with her body. Nor do you tell me what religion is right nor when its time to pray. (Your kids can pray in school whenever they want, they don't need a school-sanctioned time for it.) You bushbots might recognize this ideology, it used to be called conservatism.
Foreign policy: Speak softly and carry a big stick. The US uses diplomacy and its high moral standing, coupled with the everpresent threat of total annihilation, to maintain and promote freedom and democracy. My biggest complaint with the current administration is that it is totally incompetent at diplomacy, has squandered all of our international standing, and can't even successfully complete a war against a third world country.
Domestic/ economy: Increase competitiveness of individuals, of markets, and of the nation. This again is pretty simple. I'm for policies that allow more citizens to compete in marketplaces (better education system, improved opportunities for all), stronger regulation of markets and industries, and an enhanced competitive standing in the world market (nationalized research efforts, fiscal responsibility).
In three short paragraphs, I've laid out my ideology. What's yours, bushbots? Or can't you stop ranting long enough to figure it out? Its ok, I'm sure you can cut and paste something from a website somewhere.

Democrats are in trouble because they are trying to be Republican-Lite.
They have not fought for the liberal, progressive values that made this country strong and the envy of the world.
Let's see, 40 years of largely progressive values brought great economic and technological strength to America and only 6 years of Republican rule and we are now in financial peril and moral depravity.
The core "values" of America are not in line with the Christian fascism that the far right radical American taliban is attempting to force on all of us. These Christofascists have hijacked the Republican party and started a war on the environment, the poor, the homosexuals and the right to disagree with the government.
Think about it for a minute. When would true conservatives allow unchecked executive power and out of control deficit spending.
You have all taken the "war on terror" Kool-aid and allowed the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld criminal cartel to rob the commons in broad daylight.
Not only that, you cheer them on
Pathetic.

I wll agree with you to a point there Matt. I think the party as a whole doesn't seem to have a platform to stand on, but that individual democrats do have beliefs and values. Though this same thing can be said about a lot of politicos. :)
As mentioned before many of our friends here don't really add to the discussion other than to fire up the "discussion." Though I do enjoy talking with a few, such as Ash and Georgia who do have stances and the desire to support them. If only the leadership of the Democratic party would do the same. :(
As for a "Peace" or a "War" party go right ahead and simplify things like that if you want. Tough a one topic party won't do much, just ask the Green party. ;)

William,
I didn't know this was an actual topic, seems to me just another "I know what i'm talking about" posts we see here day after day.
It seems that half the country (and growing) tends to agree with the party of "no platform". So what does that say when a bunch of people who supposedly don't have a political leg to stand on are making the party of "ideas" look like chumps and political nimrods?

Iraq: simple - leave.
Korea: also simple. Sit down one on one and reason with them. Get them to promise not to be bad anymore. Bribe them with more nuculer (Bush spelling) goodies.
Israel: a little tougher, but not really. Just give some REAL weapons to Hamas and Hizbollah -- level the playing field, so to speak. Libs just eat that Affirmative action sh.t up. Then after the terrorists and the Israelis have slaughtered a significant number of each other, send Jimmah Carter over to negotiate real PEACE.
Social Security: simple again. As Ash says, just get the RICH to fund it -- problem solved. In fact, I'd go Ash one better. Make the RICH fund it but exempt them from the benefits -- a TWOFER!! Wait, even better, exempt the poor from paying into it -- a THREEFER, rhymes with keefer, yeah, baby!!

Ash, had a great SS idea and the Spook is making funny jokes, although he hit on some good ideas and didn't even know it. ALL income over $100,000 should be taxed at 100%, which would not impact 90% of American wage earners. Get out of Iraq is a good idea. Reestablishing full diplomatic relations with Iran is another. Talking Peace with Syria by giving back the Golan Heights. Rebuild Lebanon and give them back Sheba Farms. Create a nuclear weapons free zone from the Mediterrean Sea to the Bay of Bengal. Set up a Universal Single-payer and affordable Health Care System. Stroke Ill II in PDRK and make him think he's our best body by letting him have first crack of all of Hollywoods newest releases. Raise the minimum wage to $17.36 an hour. Make the first $36,000 of wage earners money tax free. Junk NAFTA and CAFTA. Arrest, imprison and fine any emploter who hires undocumented workers. Enough for now. Peace

See, that wasn't so tough.
Two things wrong with it, RS. First, its a plan and the donkeys don't much care for plans. And second, it is riddled with the truth. Can't have truth and Democrat in the same document - they wouldn't know what to do with it.
You left out a few items too. For example, their idols in the Netherlands have decided its a good thing to have a political party for pedophiles and want the age of consent lowered to 12. This means that instead of starting condom classes in the 7th grade, we should start them in about the 4th grade in anticipation of our "educators" demanding to have parity with the Dutch. Oh, and they want sex with animals too. But no cruelty to them, mind you.
Also, what about all these downtrodden, abused, and neglected "rightful" owners of America that just happen to be undocumented. We should grant them immediate and retroactive citizenship. The rich should be forced to pay the Social Security system to cover the years these undocumented victims didn't pay into the system. And don't forget free medical treatment for them too. And government subsidized college tuition grants to help in some small way to say, "We are sorry we stole your land all those years ago." We should also propose not ESL, English as a Second Language in schools, but Spanish as the true language of the stolen areas. English should be banned, being the language of the guilty white men.
And every person in America should have the unalienable right to marry who or what ever they wish. You wanna marry your dog? So what? You want to marry your fridge - where's the problem. And what's wrong with several "marriage partners" all at once? I can smell the acrid smoke wafting across San Francisco streets and communes as we speak. Free Mumia. Free Charlie Manson. And that airport in DC should be renamed "Fidel Castro Liberation Airport." Viva Che, yo.

Hey Steve... You forget to mention we should kill the Zionists like you normally spout off on.
Secondly... how quickly do you want the economy to tank by suggesting that we tax anyone who's drives this economy? I guess you are indeed crazy, which is why it seems you advocate being reasonable with unreasonable people who support terror and wish ill on a vast majority of the world, not discluding their own people.
I suggest we create a healthcare system like Australia has. I also saw a nugget of intelligence in your nuclear free zone idea... or better yet, why not round the world (I notice you don't exclude Iran or North Korea (seeing as you want them to Nuke us and those pesky zionists).

Just to stay on thread, at least for a minute---read Zell Miller's book. I think it is called "A National Party No More". Miller is a 60's style Democrat, a hard-core, born-and-bred Dem.
He has taken a hard look at what his party has become. I recommend this book to all who want to vote Democratic, because it is an unflinching look at what you will get if you do so.
Fiscally, JFK and Bush are nearly clones. Internationally, JFK started off Bushlike but morphed into the Dems of today, the party of Cut and Run. That phrase must have been coined to describe the despicable act of promising to support Cuban freedom fighters when they invaded their own country, and then pulled off the fighter jets that were supposed to be supplying cover for them. But at least he had a vague idea that he was supposed to protect the country.
Since then, it's been a death spiral for the dems, as they have sold out over and over again to the increasingly wacko far far left. If the word "progressive" can be used regarding the Democratic Party today, it is to describe the progressively increasing self-destructiveness of the inmates who are suddenly running the Dem asylum.
Here is a prime example: Wade says
"The core "values" of America are not in line with the Christian fascism that the far right radical American taliban is attempting to force on all of us. These Christofascists have hijacked the Republican party and started a war on the environment, the poor, the homosexuals and the right to disagree with the government."
Now, it is possible that Wade truly does believe that the Republicans are fascists who want a theocracy, that they are at war with the environment and the poor and gays and rights. I know there are some well-meaning people out there who simply cannot sort out truth from lies, who are awesomely gullible, and who do swallow tripe like this. But the thing is, it doesn't matter to Wade if any of it is true or not. It supports his inherent need to hate someone, anyone, and gives him a target for his pathology. Facts aren't going to impress Wade, or his equally desperate fellow disciples. He seeks out those who validate his core beliefs and that is all that will ever matter to him. And Wade is typical of those who are in the process of dismembering the Democratic Party of old. Reading his ranting, one can almost hear the adenoidal singsong of Ranty Rhodes, the litany of bizarre inventions being chanted over and over to the faithful.

Why do we always degenerate into personal attacks? Be it here or in real life politics? Attacking those with opposing views is just easier I guess. *Shrugs*
As for some of the "positions" listed here I'll just make some quick comments:
1. Pulling out of Iraq: We are slowly but surely pulling out as the situation dictates. Is this not fast enough for those who want an immediete withdrawl?
2. Iran talks: Haven't we allowed the "global community" to talk to Iran all this time? I mean isn't that what we're supposed to do? Don't bully these poor folks and allow everyone to come together with a solution. I mean if we started talking directly with Iran wouldn't that be "cowboy Diplomacy" again?
3. Korea talks: Again, why talk with just US and Them when the 6 party talks should have more influence. Japan is deffinetly a concerned party and want a strong voice in dealing with those ready to drop bombs on thier heads, let alone the South Koreans. Or are we to abandon both of our allies in that section of Asia?
4. Social Security: How does increasing how much/long people pay fix the inherant problems with the system? Just dumping more money into it doesn't fix any of the problems. Same goes with education.
5. The "Rich." This is a long standing question for me, what's wrong with being rich? Does everyone who's anti-rich people work for themselves? Do they not have bosses who are "rich" who pay them every two weeks or so? Do they not understand that's one of the goals of a capitalistic society as well as the reward for a job well done? I've never understood the "Class envy" tactics.

The Democratic Party is no more? You mean, the same party that won the popular-vote elections in 1992, 1996, and 2000? That same Party?
As for the other party:
Iraq (3,000 Iraqi civilians killed last month), the enviornment (what global warming?), the astronomical deficit, gay marriage, Katrina, domestic eavesdropping (King George won't even allow an ethics inquiry), Abu Ghraib, unchecked presidential signing statements, "intelligent design," etc., etc., etc.
The list goes on.

"maf - do YOU renounce violence against Republicans?"
Yes. Though I wonder why you have to qualify it to only Republicans ... Why not denounce violence against all people? Just curious.
As for solutions to some of these problems.
Iraq: George broke it, George must fix it. We were unequivocally wrong to invade that country - there is no way to "win" that war. As it is, we must slowly withdrawal, based on the opinions of the generals on the ground.
Environment & intelligent design: um, stop the anti-science crusade, and pay attention to the people (read: scientists) who actually know what they're talking about.
Gay marriage: why do you care if two consenting adults want to get married? Oh, that's right - your religion told you it was wrong. Solution - let them get married.
Domestic eavesdropping & signing statements: how about a little oversight?
Social security: I will say I do not agree with Steve about this one. If I am conservative about anything, it is fiscal conservatism.
Immigration: I agree that there are far, far too many illegals in this country. Secure that border NOW.
Abortion: believe it or not, I am pro-life.
Posted by: maf53 at July 18, 2006 11:12 PM

Tip - this is the way to go. State your position and back it up with a logical argument. The hate and insults do you no good.

Kahn,
Just an historical point: The Great Compromise was the work of Roger Sherman of Connecticut, not Ben Franklin. Roger Sherman was George Bush's great-great-great-great grandfather.

Bear et. al,
Can you answer me why the party who claims they have all the ideas, is getting made to look like fools and political morons by a party who supposedly doesn't have any ideas?
Where are your ideas, man?
Oh, I forgot, the past 12 years have been the 'proof-in-the-pudding', I can see two failed wars, a mountainous budget deficit, and a lack of personal responsibility by the power-brokers of your party...hmmm, seems like the public doesn't quite like your ideas. LOL...poor effin' baby

The sad part is that you've deluded yourself into thinking that, thereby providing the perfect example of the definition of a fool.
seems like the public doesn't quite like your ideas.
Try, you know, actually like, winning an election, like totally, dude before you start trying to convince anyone that your bunch of clowns are worth anything but use as a bad example. You do know how to win an election, right? ... wait...

Ah, the "rich", those that make their income from their wealth. What they're about is keeping their wealth and if that means sending somebody's son or daughter to Iraq to guard their oil assets, it will be done. The truly wealthy represent about 1000 people worldwide, the rest of us sell our labor and spill our blood for shekels. I wish no harm to the Jews or the Nation of Israel, but the idea's and philosophy of today's Zionist's must be discredited and laid to rest. Peace

Matt,
I'm sure that your girlfriend feels reassured that you seem to have put thoughts of her pending surgery aside and have quickly returned to a more important task, the resumption of your grim duty of covering for the myriad failures of the imploding Bush administration by assailing the Democrats. Like so many of your counterparts on the right, it's good to see that you have your priorities straight! Hopefully she will be OK without your support; after all, you have more important things to do, you thoughtless cretin!

Unfortunately TEO, this is the dream world in which you live! A world of transparent polls and attacks without substantiation! But, I fully agree with Rev. "Win an effin election", and then you will actually have something to laugh about. In the meantime.........I don't mind if I do........Bwawaaahahaaaahaaaaahaahaaaaahaaaaaahaaahaaaaaaaaaa.....losers!
P.S. If your party did have any Ideas TEO(other than communism).......our party would have had their a..ess handed to them in the last election(you know the really really important one, the one with our lives hanging in the balance), but no, once again you losers went down in a blaze of glory! Clarification: The reason we would have lost is because our politicians don't have the guts to stand up to PC & the media! If our guys would stand up and call a spade a spade, a terrorist a terrorist, and a pacifist a pacifist the more moderate % of this country would not be so confused! Let's hope for the survival of your party TEO that that doesn't begin to happen eh!!!LOL!
Posted by: bearmanUSMC at July 19, 2006 11:16 AM
steve... I'll address some of your comments.
You suggest taxing all income over $100,000 at 100%. Do you have any idea what the results of that would be? It would NOT be a huge influx of money for the government. As soon as you instituted that, anyone making over that amount would curtail their efforts until they were making $100,000 and no more.
And without their income generating efforts (they are paid well because what they do for their companies increases the companies' incomes well above the cost of their salaries), the companies they work for would have less money to hire other people. Your contention that such a tax wouldn't affect 90% of the people falls apart here. Sure... 90% of the people (taking your number... I have no idea if it's accurate or not) would not pay that 100% tax, but millions of jobs would be lost, and so yes, they would be greatly affected.
Then, those that had lost their jobs would also not be contributing taxes into the system, but would require more (like unemployment compensation, healthcare, etc. etc.) from the system, which now has nothing to give because no one is working beyond the $100,000 mark, and all taxes that we currently receive from them (which, if you've forgotten is something around 50% of tax revenues) is gone.
On to minimum wage. Where do you get the $17.36 figure? Did you just make it up because it sounded good to you? Even if the minimum wage needed to be raised, that number is over 3x the current minimum. Do you have any idea what that would do to our economy?
When you raise the minimum wage, ALL goods and services cost more to create. The price of everything goes up. That increased price is across the board... rich people and minimum wage earners pay for that increase equally. The market will reach basically the same parity it currently has where a minimum wage income will buy the same amount it can buy now. The numbers are higher, but they're higher on both income and outgo, and there is no net benefit to the minimum wage earner.
The other consequence of raising the minimum wage, though (and particularly at the level that you are suggesting) is that businesses will not be able to hire as many employees. Their ability to hire people is based on the money they have available from their income after taxes are paid, continuing costs of business are paid (you sell something, you have to buy or create more in order to sell during the next week/month/whatever). If each employee now costs 3x as much, the business is probably only going to be able to hire 1/3 as many people. Again, an awful lot of people will be out of work that previously had been employed.
While both those ideas may sound good, both of them would have a devastating effect on the economy, and on low wage earners in particular. Neither produce a benefit for anyone.
This is also the type of thing that was referred to in a previous thread as "feel-good" policies and programs. It makes people feel like they're helping those that need it, but in reality, it does not.

"Don't you pine for the good old days when the worst thing we had to worry about was a President who cheated on his wife?"
Evidently you didn't worry at all about him refusing to arrest or detain Osama Bin Laden. Or about him unconstitutionally passing and enforcing an ex post facto law (the retroactive income tax increase). Or about him instituting warrantless domestic surveillances. Or about him defending efforts to deny Constitutional rights by trying to deny jury trials to selected offenses. Or his encouraging further terrorist attacks by his cowardly responses, or non-responses, to repeated attacks on Americans. Or his mulitiple accusations of criminal sexual attacks. Or his being disbarred after being found guilty of perjury. Or his illegal acceptance of campaign funds from foreign powers. Or his insistence on giving a known foreign agent a top secret security clearance and then insisting on including him in top secret military briefings, over the strong objections of every military and intlligence person there. Or his handing over of nuclear technology to Kim Jong Il---along with his lifting of the ban on selling certain technological secrets so an Arkansas buddy could make billions, selling North Korea the technology that now allows them to target American cities with missles. Or his illegal and unconstitutional detainment of Dr. Wen Ho Lee, without charges being filed, in conditions which the Left now defines as "torture". Or his pardon of a former business associate who was convicted, along with 19 others, of fraud and/or similar charges, regarding a series of crimes committed by a business in which he was a founding partner. Or his selling off of nights in the White House in exchanage for campaign contributions.
And the list goes on and on---the list of things you evidently never found to be worth "worrying" about.
No, you persist in pretending that the absolutely ONLY thing anyone "worried about" regarding Clinton was his inability to keep his pecker parked. (Which, by the way, was his favorite characteristic as far as many of you were concerned.)
We found his sexually predatory ways offensive, but "worried" about his habits of putting the country in grave danger. And sure enough, Osama himself stated several times that it was Clinton's cowardice when faced with attack that emboldened A-Q to step up their efforts. And sure enough, one of the biggest problems we face today is the nuclear capability of North Korea.
But you all just keep your eye on the crotch, and pretend that it was, after all, "just about sex".

Maf, you have a good list. I am glad to see you are a fiscal conservative and also pro-life. Not just that you feel this way, but that you have the courage to admit it.
You also say:
"Iraq: George broke it, George must fix it. We were unequivocally wrong to invade that country - there is no way to "win" that war. As it is, we must slowly withdrawal, based on the opinions of the generals on the ground."
But we were NOT "unequivocally wrong to invade that country".....one might be able to make an argument against the invasion, but to claim that it was "unequivocally wrong" is simply incorrect.
As far as the ability to "win" that war, this is a case where it is really important to define the word "win". We will never win it in the traditional meaning of the word, where the other side signs a surrender saying yes, we won and they lost. But if our goal is to help establish a free and representative secular government where none existed before, then yes, it CAN be won. And we are withdrawing slowly. That's always been the plan.
"Environment & intelligent design: um, stop the anti-science crusade, and pay attention to the people (read: scientists) who actually know what they're talking about."
As scientists tend to disagree with each other almost as often as they disagree with us, there is no such thing as a consensus of any scientific opinion. The claim that there is an "anti-science crusade" is leftist rhetoric. What there is, is an effort to stop accepting every new theory as fact, and to admit opposing points of view. So, while there is some consensus that the earth is warming, there is no consensus as to why, or to how long it will continue. Al Gore or no Al Gore, there are very respected scientists who are warning us, for example, of an impending Little Ice Age within a decade or two as solar activity changes. True science looks at all the possibilities, and does not isolate one theory to the exclusion of others because that theory meets an emotional need.
"Gay marriage: why do you care if two consenting adults want to get married? Oh, that's right - your religion told you it was wrong. Solution - let them get married."
Another straw man. There is very very very little objection to allowing homosexuals to find or create a mechanism to acknowledge their commitment to each other and to enjoy the same protections as those offered by marriage. The objection is to the hijacking of the word "marriage". Solution: Let them respect the cultural and religions history of the word "marriage" and find another word to describe their unique situation.
And quit using the straw man of religion here. I do not go to church. I simply think that when a word has the depth and complexity of meaning that the word "marriage" has, that should be respected. And I see no reason for a demand that the historical, cultural, AND religious sensibilities of millions should be sacrificed to accommodate a few.
"Domestic eavesdropping & signing statements: how about a little oversight?"
This topic would be more easily addressed if accurate wording was used. There is no "domestic eavesdropping" unless you determine that "domestic" includes interception of communications with only one side in the United States. So far, "domestic" has meant communications which take place within the boundaries of the United States. As for oversight, how much? More than the courts provide now? By whom? Is that enough? Should we oversee the oversight people? For how many layers? Who selects the oversight committee? Who selects the overseers of the oversight people? And what, EXACTLY, do you want the oversight people to accomplish?
"Oversight" has become a meaningless catchphrase. I have yet to see it defined, explained, or to see a plan for implementing it. And the big question: If you don't happen to agree with an oversight group, then what?
Posted by:
Almiranta at July 20, 2006 12:29 AM
Alms,
I don't think we will ever agree about the reasons for going into Iraq. But I have come around to the idea of staying until the job is done and withdrawing slowly.
As for science, the global warming issue has been debated quite a bit. I never said there was a "consensus." But the evidence, I would say, is overwhelming that it is taking place, and that humans are the cause of it.
But what really irks me is the whole "intelligent design" facade. If you don't think Bush is pandering to the extreme right with that, you are fooling yourself.
Gay marriage - I mean, why can't you just let adults do what they please, so long as it's not harming anyone else. Gambling, drinking, pot, gay marriage, yes, even prostitution - how do these things negatively effect you? Why do you care what other people are doing, as long as they are adults, and as long as they are doing nobody any harm?
Why did Bush block the review of the "spy" program?
Posted by: maf53 at July 20, 2006 11:03 PM
But I have come around to the idea of staying until the job is done and withdrawing slowly.
Maybe there's some hope for you after all.
As for science, the global warming issue....
Ok, whats the difference between "consensus" and "overwhelming?" Aren't they pretty much the same? I will not dispute that it is possible that we are on a warming cycle right now. They Earth goes through these often (in terms of geologic time). There is almost NO evidence that humans can have any effect on these cycles. Most serious scientists agree on that point and call people like Al Gore, banging is nut job Global Warming drum and showing pictures of polar bears, frauds. That's because they're in way over their heads scientifically and their motives are political. Gore has destroyed any chance at ever holding high office again because of this foolishness.
But what really irks me is the whole "intelligent design" facade.
Could you be more specific on the "facade?" Do you say Intelligent Design is not a fact? Do you have proof? I am an atheist who doesn't happen to buy the religious description of creation but I cannot find any proof that they are wrong. You choose to believe something else. Can you prove it?
If you don't think Bush is pandering to the extreme right with that, you are fooling yourself.
More details please. If you mean he's religious, how dare he be. If you mean he's responding to the constituents that got him elected, isn't that what Democracy is all about?
Gay marriage
you must mean homosexual marriage, right? If so, why don't you say it?
I mean, why can't you just let adults do what they please
Sure. Does that include polygamy? Torture? Imprisonment and Slavery? I mean if they both agree, and stuff.
Gambling, drinking, pot, gay marriage, es, even prostitution - how do these things negatively effect you?
Gambling is legal in many places. Drinking is legal almost anywhere except while driving a car. Pot is an illegal drug. Prostitution is illegal in most states - but not all. Nevada for example.
But they're all different things and have different levels of social acceptance. Social acceptance means that the people who make up this country have accepted them. For example, there have been many studies that show that Marijuana often leads to cocaine, crack and hard drugs and eventually crime and/or death. Prostitution is one of the highest methods of spreading STDs. But the bottom line is that the American people can legalize anything they want as long as it does not conflict with the Constitution. And even then, it can be amended, as it has been many times. So, in summary, these things are illegal or highly regulated because people want them to be. They can change that if they want to. If you disagree with a policy, say prostitution being illegal, start a group, write letters, campaign, convince enough Americans that you are right and you will get what you want. Otherwise, obey the laws. Oh, and one of the biggest lies people tell about these vices is that they're victimless or "do no harm." That's been discredit so many times that the only place it is still thought to be "righteous" is in high school locker rooms.
Why did Bush block the review of the "spy" program?
Which one? How did he "block" it?

Was there something to debate on this post?
Kahn,
Yep, It's like you said, they have only one thing in mind, and that is, to wait for something to criticize bush for!!
Their ideology, I call, Utopianism!!
Jeremiah
I've never read these comment posts before! What a riot! Everything Matt says is spot on. You liberals who post (ie Phil above) make the case!
"Matt is an asshole, therefore Republicans are haters, therefore liberals are right...er...left". Way to go Phil, you've attained walking parody status!
Jim
So Mission Accomplished, right?
Raise the level of income from $90,000 to $150,000 that can have Social Security taxes withheld. Would relieve any projected "problem"
Gee, Phil, how handy, right after Kahn posts about, "No solutions, no suggestions, simply nothing to add to the discourse except invective and insults." you demonstrate it for us. how kind of you to volunteer!
Just like vampires can't garlic, lefties can't stand to be around those pesky little things called facts.
Chop chop chop, the sound of the headsman and his trusty axe. First victim? Howard Dean.
Ash, I must admit steps up with an opinion more than any of the others.
Here's just one example of how bad off the party of the jackass is doing...
Raise the level of income from $90,000 to $150,000 that can have Social Security taxes withheld. Would relieve any projected "problem"
Nothing like a little Socialist re-distribution of the wealth from our in-house Trotskyite.
It may not be THE answer, Kahn, but it's a start. Man we gotta work together on the tough problems
Funny, no?
I love how the media throws out a poll each week showing the republicans in serious trouble this year, as though America actually believes the treasonous, lying democrats have the solution to the war on terror, which is quickly becoming WWIII. My gosh, all one has to do is throw holy water on a democrat and watch him melt like the witch on Wizard of Oz! These people aren't going to take either House in November. They will lose yet again and their hatred for Bush will cause them gnashing of teeth, sleepless nights, weight-loss and unceasing trips to the commode. Democrats foiled again at the strength of President Bush. Funny, no?
Must disagree a bit, Matt. The Dems do have a few core values. Abortion on demand, the Nanny State, high taxes, surrender and capitulation.
Great post Matt!
Democrats are a danger to America!!
The have no regard for little unborn children!!
They hold the anything-goes lifestyle, which would lead America into a hopeless pit of despair!!
Just plainly put, they have no values!!
And as far as Godliness is concerned, they are wicked fools!!
Let's keep heaping the truth on them!!
Jeremiah
Mark,
Must be a slow news day, huh; I suppose the Israelis just aren't producing body-counts as fast as we would like, they should have really paid attention to our stellar performance in Iraq to see how you smite a brown population.
Did anyone catch Snow-job today getting his facts wrong. I guess he still has his FOX-lag to contend with, must suck having to be confined to reality on a daily basis.
Not only that, you cheer them on
Pathetic.
Wade
Third Eye Open shows that Democrats cannot even repudiate a post like this. Has to deflect off topic. So sad.
Amen..i agree completely
I wll agree with you to a point there Matt. I think the party as a whole doesn't seem to have a platform to stand on, but that individual democrats do have beliefs and values. Though this same thing can be said about a lot of politicos. :)
As mentioned before many of our friends here don't really add to the discussion other than to fire up the "discussion." Though I do enjoy talking with a few, such as Ash and Georgia who do have stances and the desire to support them. If only the leadership of the Democratic party would do the same. :(
As for a "Peace" or a "War" party go right ahead and simplify things like that if you want. Tough a one topic party won't do much, just ask the Green party. ;)
Both parties are crap. We need new leadership!
William,
I didn't know this was an actual topic, seems to me just another "I know what i'm talking about" posts we see here day after day.
It seems that half the country (and growing) tends to agree with the party of "no platform". So what does that say when a bunch of people who supposedly don't have a political leg to stand on are making the party of "ideas" look like chumps and political nimrods?
For example; Just what do the lefties propose we do in Iraq? What should we do about Korea? What should we do about Israel. What should we do to fix social security. And the list goes on. They refuse to state a solution for ANY subject. It is really hard to take them seriously.
Kahn, since Ash was the only Lefty who even took a half-hearted stab at it, I'd like to try and help them out.
See, that wasn't so tough. I really should have stopped after the second glass of wine tonight, heh.

God you're crazy. I hear Ted Kazinski's cabin is now on the market.... go live there.
Two things wrong with it, RS. First, its a plan and the donkeys don't much care for plans.
They don't? I thought Kerry had a plan -- oh, wait, that was a SECRET plan. Never mind. That was the one and ONLY thing Kerry was reeeeeallly good at -- keeping secrets. Didn't that keep you awake at night, wondering just what Kerry's plan really was? No? Me neither, heh.
I tell you, between too much wine and trying to think like a Donk, my brain is just FUBAR. Now I know why, as a recent pol showed, Republicans are much happier than Dems.
Thanks for picking up where I left off, Scar. I was only trying to answer Kahn's questions. I especially liked the part about sex with animals. I understand it's OK with PETA as long as the animal gets gratification from it.

I appreciate the Democrats posting here. Funny.
Just remember that TEO and many others still refuse to condemn and renounce violence against Republicans. Thats OK for me, my car has a W sticker, but also an eagle-globe-and anchor and a NRA sticker.
Democrat drool fest. Its hard to tell the parody posts from the real ones.
HEY REV-
Why don't you stay over there on your very sad ass blog? Could it be that no one cares about it? Maybe that's why your back here? Poor baby doesn't have any attention. Awwwwwwwwww
Hey tell us all why you're no longer a moderator on this site. I'm sure your version will be fascinating to say the least.
God you're crazy. I hear Ted Kazinski's cabin is now on the market.... go live there.
Wawilliyo, I wonder if Algore's book, "Earth in the Lurch" is still on the bookshelf in that cabin. I'll bet Steve's got a copy too. Hey Steve, I understand "An Inconvenient Truth" will be out on DVD soon. Better start saving your allowance for a copy.
Just remember that TEO and many others still refuse to condemn and renounce violence against Republicans. - kahn
Awwwwwww poor poor republican neocon wingnuts and the "violence" they face every day. Poor babies. Apart from hangnails and the every present knowledge that everyday you are becoming more and more isolated with your views I hardly see what you have to complain about.
TEO,
Why do you shovel dirt on snow?
Jeremiah
*Shakes head*
If the Democrats are losing why are you a part of the minority, Matt. Dumb ass. I can defeat this fool with a sentence. How many words was that?
Yes fear democrats Jerimiah, the anything-goes life-style is coming to get you, oh wait that's just adulthood. Booga-Booga!
Rebublicans are just people who can't deal with a world where they don't control everyone everyday. That's all it is:
Control = Power.
Take it from Rush, Rush knows!...........
The democratic party doesn't have a SOUL,anymore. This party doesn't have any core beliefs. This party cares nothing about the law. This party cares nothing for decency, for propriety. All they care about is winning at all costs. I'm not saying this in order to convince any wayward Democrats that I'm right and they should rethink their own party. They are filled with hate. They don't care what it takes. They will boo Republicans at a so-called mourning memorial. They will do anything - and we've not seen this before to this extent.
Left-wingers, shoooooo, git!, go home!.......
Jeremiah
The Democratic Party is no more? You mean, the same party that won the popular-vote elections in 1992, 1996, and 2000? That same Party?
As for the other party:
Iraq (3,000 Iraqi civilians killed last month), the enviornment (what global warming?), the astronomical deficit, gay marriage, Katrina, domestic eavesdropping (King George won't even allow an ethics inquiry), Abu Ghraib, unchecked presidential signing statements, "intelligent design," etc., etc., etc.
The list goes on.
The gig is up.
Leftorium refuses to renounce violence also.
Democrats - the party of love. Believe it, or we'll burn your offices and destroy your vehicles, and shoot at you during election campaigns. ALL things Democrats did during the last presidential campaign.
Thanks some of you liberals for refusing to be goaded into posting real opinions on issues and sticking to the hate filled insults. You are truly the stalwarts of your party.
And some of you who did post. Wow. I could not have asked for a better peek behind the curtain into how you people think. Double the social security tax - wow.
maf, of course you mean that party got more than 50%... right? Oh, no you don't. Maybe Ross Perot split the conservative vote in a couple of those elections?
Good thing Ben Franklin came up with THE GREAT COMPROMISE and we have AN ELECTORAL COLLEGE. If you don't like the system, change it.
Good thing you didn't suggest any solutions or anything. Otherwise I'd suspect you weren't a democrat.
maf - do YOU renounce violence against Republicans?
A virtual flood of liberal opinions on actual issues. Well, from three people anyways.
Tip - this is the way to go. State your position and back it up with a logical argument. The hate and insults do you no good.

Lefty, at least he has a blog & the balls to share it with all!!! What do you have lefty? SOL.......awwwwwwwwwwwwwww, poor effin baby!
As for opinions & ideologies, you commie bastards are not in control for a very great reason! If you would like to know what that reason is.....reread your posts!
Kahn,
Just an historical point: The Great Compromise was the work of Roger Sherman of Connecticut, not Ben Franklin.
LOL...poor effin' baby
...is getting made to look like fools...
You do know how to win an election, right? ... wait...
Amen, TEO
Don't you pine for the good old days when the worst thing we had to worry about was a President who cheated on his wife?

Let's hope for the survival of your party TEO that that doesn't begin to happen eh!!!LOL!
Hey ass, That's a perfect example of why you guys have little to NO power anymore! People want leaders that start leading by example in their own effin lives, not leaders that talk the talk but don't walk the walk! Hey, maybe cheating on your wife/husband is no big deal to you, but to alot of us it describes the rest of a mans life! Enough about slick willy, you got any damning evidence(that doesn't come from twenty years ago) against Pres. Bush & I'm not talking about all your trumped up B.S. about how Bush is to blame for everything! No, really ash, read my lips, "do you have ANYTHING condemning George Walker Bush of ANYTHING wrong? ....................waiting!LOL
Bear,
I know it's difficult to see through the saddles of your dog and pony show recently, but haven't you had an evening in bed wondering how it only took 12 years of complete idiocy before the tides turned, and the Dems kept a 40 year hegemony of the nation's politics, seems like your policies just weren't what the doctor ordered. You also conveniently forget the 8 years of a democrat who occupied the office before Der Leader. Why did it take you 40 years to win some elections?
P.S. Please start trying to run MORE conservative candidates, I am sure they will have fun discussing how they got things so wrong, on the golf course with Santorum. LOL
I know it's difficult to see through the saddles...
Why don't you check back when the jackasses actually win something? We'll wait...
"You do know how to win an election, right? ... wait..."
See; 1992, 1996, 2000 ... and, soon, 2008 (Gore/Feingold).
Try again.
2000???
What are you smoking? 2008? Gore? Hahahaha! I think we have a comedian here. Name the last DemocRAT that got nominated after losing a presidential bid...I'll wait...
Plus, fat Al is getting fatter by the minute, he's got $50 million in the bank and Hollywood starlets idolize him so he doesn't even have to look at that dog he married, "Tipper."
He won't run. He'll be replete in some hot tub in Beverly Hills with scantily clad blondes trying to use "global warming" to get his limpness to respond. Then Ol' Slick will show up and say, "Al, lemme show you how to do this..."
And Feingold? He's a legend in his own mind. Last time I heard over 90 of his pals voted against his nutty ideas. Yea, he's a threat alright. You're reading way too much of Kos and his perfect 0 for 20 record of getting his "guy" elected. What ARE you smokin', dude?
"how bad off the party of the jackass is doing..."
"...believes the treasonous, lying democrats"
"..they are wicked fools!!"
Proof of good old namecalling and insults which you repubs never resort to. How can you spout against something and 3 posts later do just that? twisted..
Democrat controlled Police Deoartment tortured blacks.

Bear,
I know it's difficult to see through the saddles of your dog and pony show recently, but haven't you had an evening in bed wondering how it only took 12 years of complete idiocy before the tides turned, and the Dems kept a 40 year hegemony of the nation's politics, seems like your policies just weren't what the doctor ordered.
LOL

You do know how to win an election, right? ... wait..."
See; 1992, 1996, 2000 ... and, soon, 2008 (Gore/Feingold).
Try again.

Who said this two days ago?
tick

times up!
Chuck Schumer, senior Democrat Senator from New York. Thanks for playing!
Jesus said:
Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Fathers house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and take you to be with me, that you also may be where I am. John 14:3
Alms,
I don't think we will ever agree about the reasons for going into Iraq.
