Ultimatum to Syria?

Could just be ill-informed chatter, or it could be the real thing:

The London-based Arabic language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Saturday that “Washington has information according to which Israel gave Damascus 72 hours to stop Hizbullah’s activity along the Lebanon-Israel border and bring about the release the two kidnapped IDF soldiers or it would launch an offensive with disastrous consequences.”

Hizbollah is the symptom, the disease is in Damascus - and Tehran. If Israel were to directly strike Syria, even to the point of a ground invasion from the Golan to Damascus, this would be correct policy. Nothing would more quickly make the Syrians drop Hizbollah than a direct threat to the Syrian regime. Syria's antique order of battle (mostly weapons and equipment more than 20 years old) simply can't put up much of a fight against a determined Israeli attack.

The Syrian regime is quite nasty all on its own, but I begin to think that Little Assad was taken in by the Iranians in much the same way that the elder Assad was taken in by Sadat during the Yom Kippur War. My bet now is that Iran promised all sorts of help if Syria would escalate the war in the Israeli area, but now Syria is finding that it is being left in the lurch to face the full might of Israel unaided. Lets hope that Little Assad, or whoever is running the show, gets an attack of the smarts in short order.

Jeremiah, does this mean the rapture is nigh?

Posted by: Bob Arctor [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 15, 2006 05:22 PM

I hope that all this is true.

Posted by: Richard of Oregon at July 15, 2006 06:10 PM

Israel is begining to look pretty silly. First this, and then that...no wait not that the other thing. If we reestablish full diplomatic relations with Iran all of the things that the Right(including the Zionists) wants to happen will happen and nobody gets killed. So the question becomes: Does the Christian radical/neo-con/Zionist axis really want Peace or just more war so they can become rich by selling munitions? Peace

Posted by: steve at July 15, 2006 07:00 PM

It's remarkable how much you mimic the talking style and scapegoat mentality of the islamic extremist. Watch, I'll just replace your proper nouns with Israel.

The Jew is the symptom, the disease is in Israel . If Iran were to directly strike Israel, even to the point of a ground invasion from Tehran to Tel Aviv, this would be correct policy. Nothing would more quickly make the Israelis drop their zionist invasion than a direct threat to the zionist regime. Israel's antique order of battle (mostly weapons and equipment more than 20 years old) simply can't put up much of a fight against a determined Jihad.

The Israeli are quite nasty all on their own, but I begin to think that Little Bush was taken in by the Israelis in much the same way that the Big Bush was taken in by Yitzhak Rabin during the Yom Kippur War. My bet now is that the USA promised all sorts of help if Israel would escalate the war in the holy area, but now Israel is finding that it is being left in the lurch to face the full might of Jihad unaided. Lets hope that Little Bush, or whoever is running the show, gets an attack of the smarts in short order.

I'll forawrd it to North Korea, you'd fit in PERFECTLY there.

Bob Arctor,

I really don't know!, I just know, that it is up to God as to when He chooses to return!!

I know for a fact that we are in the Last days, most likely this world will not make it another twenty years, that's my estimation, but I won't speak for God!

I believe also though that, If something very disastrous would happen to take place over there and the whole world would become engaged and angered and start fighting, killing each other in mass, that would most assuredly call for the lords return!

We are in a very troubled times here on planet earth, and with so many countries filled with so many mad terrorist, Like the one in North korea, most don't understand, what it is that causes war and conflict!!

I do know one thing!, The world is setting the stage for Gods return, because we see evil all around!!

American's need to be getting in church and getting their hearts right with the Lord!!

Becuase God is not going to hold out very much longer!! I'm afraid!!

The bible says: Behold the devil has been cast down, and he is filled with much fury, because he knows his time is short!!

So if you read that particular section of the bible and then look at how many terrorist there are in the other countries, and how bad a shape the countries are in, It could be any day now!!

But the thing I fear the worst is, if another country would come in the United States like china and rule as dictatorship over all the christians and country in general!!! This would be terribel for America after all the many years of freedom that we have been blessed with, since the civil war!!

After the civil war both conservative and liberal, agreed peacably on working together, and it is a shame after so long a blessing that we cannot agree!! We are all a big family why can't the liberals agree that God is our foundation, He is our HOPE for another tomorrow, a HOPE for a FREE society, a HOPE for Gods blessing!!

My heart absolutely wrenches in pain for peace and HOPE IN AMERICA, FOUNDING UPON CHRIST JESUS, OUR ROCK AND OUR SALVATION!!

But as long as America cannot WAKE UP! to this sense, then there will NEVER BE ANY PEACE!!

This is why Amercia and the WHOLE WORLD is in such a turmoil, because they have turned their eyes from the one who paid it all, CHRIST JESUS!!

LORD OF LORDS!! AND KING OF KINGS!! :)
'
THE WHOLE WORLD NEEDS TO AGREE THAT HE IS TRULY THE ONLY, YES THE ONLY!! PEACE THAT SURPASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING!!!

Let's just PRAY!!! for VICTORY!!! in this ongoing war on terror!!

Bob & Jeremiah

As for when the rapture will occur, we don't know, however, many bible scholars believe the signs indicate that it could be soon. Bible prophecy has many interpretations. Bible prophecy scholars are not in complete agreement. What I can tell you is Israel is the key. God will bless or curse nations based on how they treat Israel. The story of Genesis discusses this. If the US leadership is smart, they will stay out of Israel's way as it acts to defend itself from these vicious and unprovked attacks. Israel needs to competely destroy the terrorist infrastructure and to competely eliminate their abiltiy to wage war agains Israel.

Posted by: B.Poster [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 15, 2006 09:05 PM

If Israel invades that Bacca Valley, hopefully they might find any of saddams wmd that might have been transported there. That's assuming that it has not been moved or given to the terrorists.

Posted by: james allegro at July 15, 2006 09:14 PM

The libs are just upset because Israel didn't ask france for permission to defend itself.

Posted by: james allegro at July 15, 2006 09:16 PM

To all you idiot BAC's. The end is perhaps near but it's not the doing of God but that of man. Hold on to your hats folks, it's gonna get rough from here.

BTW, Jeremiah, you are still a fool.

Steve - yep, you got them pegged. Two sides of the same coin.

And it is ironic how similar the thinking of the Iranian mullahs, Osama bin Laden, and Hamas is to the Christo-fascists' in Washington.

Humans are humans are humans - and "against stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain".

Stepping away from the Apocolypse for a moment, I think that controlling Hezbollah may not be within Syria's power, any more than it is within America's power to control the Mafia.
I am a little disappointed in Israel's response to the whole situation. They are blaming whole populations for the acts of a few criminals.
This will not end well. I just feel it.

Man!!!!...all of you left wing yellow bellies are really sick. Blame the Jews? You people are not prejudiced and filled with hate toward Israel. No you are just plain scared as usual. Oh my! Let's join the french and run away. Israel should leave and disperse around the earth again. The BIG BRAVE A-rabs will shoot rockets and talk big..and we need to be critical of Israel because the USA supports the "Zionist".
Why don't you buy a bedsheet and move to Palestine...oh I forgot, they don't have a land. they are just sitting on some dirt next to Isreal (doing nothing productive other than bitching). Now think, if some little punk hit you in the face and then beat on your mother and you weighed 275lbs with lots of muscle, you would kick his ass hard and fast with every thing you had. So when Israel is attacked they will kick the moslem fanatics asses as hard and fast as it takes to shut them down. You want peace..peace comes at a price, so let the adults handle getting the peace. Meanwhile hide in the corner like all good leftist/pacifist/neo-communist/yellowbelly terrorist should.

LMAO! Yes, lets sit down with them and have tea and chit chat. Yes, that works every time. NOT!

They dont want to talk!!!! They say over and over and over. They want to inilate Israel.

How much talking are leaders to do until it just is pointless? Sorry, but there has been talking for years, and it doesnt work.

Israel, needs to destroy them.

Posted by: AFWIFE [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 16, 2006 12:15 AM

Also, Israel has bent over backwards giving up this or that for people who only want to kill them...all in the name of "peace".

Israel never sends in suicide bombers to civilian locations to MURDER innocent people.

There is nothing that Israel is guilty of here. NOTHING. Except maybe defending themselves and being fed up with the terrorists who constantly harass and murder them.

Has this ultimatum to Syria been confirmed yet?

Btw, 3moreyears, I said a prayer for you.
:)

Posted by: Freedom1 [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 16, 2006 12:55 AM

As I read through the right-wing posts I am reminded once again of how utterly stupid Americans in general tend to be. Apparently many of you were sick on the days that spelling was taught in grade school. Your ignorance of history is astonishing to say the least, and your lack of a moral compass is absolutely frightening. But, having been raised by and among fundamentalist Christians it should certainly be something I would expect. You people will not be happy until you and your government have instigated an all out world war, and there is nothing moral about that. The Israelis are doubly stupid for allowing themselves to be pawns in your end-time fantasies. They would be far better off to attempt to arrive at a solution without the input of a fundamentalist Christian nation bent on the destruction of the entire world. However, it must be admitted that from a historical perspective they are themselves responsible for the multitude of problems with which we are now confronted. It is a well-known fact among those who have bothered to investigate the historical record that the first few books of the Old Testament are nothing more than short, condensed versions of much older Mesopotamian and Babylonian tales, and that none of that "God stuff" was present in them until the Hebrews just inserted it to suit their own purposes. Talk about reaping what you've sown. Everything you believe is based on a LIE! I do not, however, anticipate that you will ever come to accept that. Intellectual pygmies are simply not capable of critical thought.

Posted by: JULIE at July 16, 2006 01:12 AM

Julie,

Perhaps, but we did manage to show up on the day when grammar was taught...something you seem to have missed.

You are forgiven, however, because your sophomoric views tend to leave one thinking that you haven't quite completed your primary education.

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 16, 2006 02:23 AM

Small Town,

Oh, I don't think Little Assad can telephone an order to Hizbollah and expect it to be immediately obeyed...but Hizbollah can't long continue without Syrian compliance, and that means that the Syrian government has enough leverage to, say, force Hizbollah to cough up the captured IDF soldiers.

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 16, 2006 02:27 AM

Personally, I begin to think that the country that should get the ultimatum is Iran. The only problem with that is that Isreal may feel that it needs to be a nuclear warning. Lest we forget, Isreal is a nuclear power, and is believed to have nearly used it in the Yom Kippur War.

Isreal is defending herself against agents of foreign governments that are trying to destroy them. Just because those agents are called militias, and the governments claim they cannot control them does not let the governments that support them off the hook. Lebanon not sending troops to take over the southern portion of their own country is a sign that they are letting Hizbollah do their job, and the country pays the price.

Posted by: kjstrouble [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 16, 2006 02:36 AM

Julie -
"Everything you believe is based on a LIE!" I believe that you are a hate filled and ignorant person. I base that belief on your own post.

I was raised as a Catholic in Northampton, MA. My mother, sisters, and aunts all went to Smith. One sister continuued on to Harvard. After a short time in the Marines, I finished my BA at UNT where I graduated magna cum laude. You may note that several of these facts poke holes in your prejudice. It could be said that they prove YOU to be ignorant.

Oh, and well yes. Sometimes we spell things wrong. That happens when typing right into the blog. It doesn't happen much when we compose the post in MS-Word like you did. But then again. I don't write a post and blast it into multiple blogs. Only assholes do that. Ooh Ohh, I can insult also!

So other than a hate filled rant filled with factual mistakes... do you have anything to ad on the subject of Israel and Syria? I thought not.

Dear brethren be wise and not deceived by the anti-christ such as Julie!!

A message concerning the anti-christ!!

WOE TO THEM!! THEY HAVE TAKEN THE WAY OF CAIN!!

The antichrist is a liar.

1 john 2: 18-27

Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the anti-christs have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed they did not belong to us.
But you have an anointing from the Holy one, and all of you know the truth.
I do not write to you because you do not know the truth.
Who is the LIAR? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the anitchrist-he denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
See that which you have heard from the beginning ramins in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. And this is what he promised us-eternal life.

I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.
As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit- JUST AS IT HAS TAUGHT YOU, REMAIN IN
HIM.
__________________________________________________

So folks! if you pay attention, to what the people are saying; you will see that they are the anti-christ, Just like the bible says they are!!

I'm going to attempt to add something constructive on the debate about the situation between Hezbollah, Syria, and Israel. If Israel needs to take out the Syrian regime, they should do that. The terrorists this regime supports are a threat to the US, as well as Israel.

Israel may just take care of this problem for us. The most prudent course of action would be for the US to stay out of Israel's way and allow them to defend themselves. If need be, the US should try to provide diplomatic cover for Israel.

If it comes down to it, the US may be able to airlift weapons and supplies to Israel much like it did during the Yom Kippur war. If Israel needs our help, I'm sure they will ask. I really don't think they will need it. The best thing for us to do is to stay out of their way and let them take care of business. Their enemies are also America's enemies.

The United States military is busy in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. I think it is highly unlikely that the US is in any postion to be able to intervene effectively in Syria. We should continue working to build up Iraqi security forces and act to check Iran, from our positions in Iraq. Hopefully 135,000 American troops stationed in Iraq can serve as a check on Iran's more ambitious inclinations.

Posted by: B.Poster [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 16, 2006 02:24 PM

Julie,

Don't pay any attention to Kahn. Kahn says the same thing about everyone who disagrees with him: "I believe that you are a hate filled and ignorant person"

Just handle him in kind by saying: I know you are but what am I?

It's that mentality you are dealing with.

Posted by: Ash [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 16, 2006 02:29 PM

Ah yes, ash, another intelligent, informative, and useful post!!!

Perhaps you could try and actually come up with a solution yourself? What exactly should we do about Iran, Syria, and N. Korea? I realize that in your little world all of these things existed only during President Bush's presidency and nothing bad ever happened during Clinton's reign. So please, enlighten us all, and tell us what we should do about these nations.

Go ahead and reread all of your posts and see if you can find one sentence of constructive thought, instead of making fun of or bashing people.

I wouldn't get too high and mighty with the spelling correction either, unless you are sure that you will never make a mistake in the future.

Lord knows it shouldn't be too long.....

You guys DO hate us. You don'rt even deny it - so why is it wrong to point that out? When we have point blank asked you about it, instead of denying the hatred you justify it.

Talk about being full of crap. You are so full of it.
