I asked you for a cite about the SWIFT program on their website a couple of days ago and am still waiting.

To publish information about a classified program that a number of government officials, from the Secretary of the Treasury to Congressman Murtha, have specifically asked you not to publish because of the potential damage to National Security, is just plain un-American, and pure politics. There was no "public interest" in disclosing the details, regardless if they had been mentioned previously or thought to be the "likely sources of data”.

Since the program was successful in detecting and capturing terrorists, it is obvious that either the terrorists forgot about the program or, more likely, never knew about it. By the NYT plastering all over the frontpage, they know about it now.

The last time I checked, aiding and abetting the enemy is considered treason. If repeatedly informing terrorists, our enemies, about the programs we are using to detect, disrupt, and capture them is not aiding and abetting the enemy, nothing is.

Your real problem with the flight suit is that Bush looked so good in it, and so natural---being a fighter pilot and all. You just loved Pres. Pudge waddling off the grannycopter in his elastic-waisted track suit, in his 29 aircraft carrier landings---good for you. But don't begrudge us a president who has the manly parts to come in on a tailhook landing, even as just a passenger. Maybe you'll all get lucky and get Howie in the office next time----I can imagine him screaming like a third-grade girl at landing on a carrier from ANYTHING---better make sure his pants are a dark color.

And try, just try, for a change, to learn why fighter pilots wear flight suits, and why their passengers have to wear them, too. It's not just a fashion statement.

Mark, you never told me what law says that there should be no separation between church and state.

"It is no exaggeration to say that on Sundays in Washington during the administrations of Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809) and of James Madison (1809-1817) the state became the church. Within a year of his inauguration, Jefferson began attending church services in the House of Representatives. Madison followed Jefferson's example, although unlike Jefferson, who rode on horseback to church in the Capitol, Madison came in a coach and four. Worship services in the House--a practice that continued until after the Civil War--were acceptable to Jefferson because they were nondiscriminatory and voluntary. Preachers of every Protestant denomination appeared. (Catholic priests began officiating in 1826.) As early as January 1806 a female evangelist, Dorothy Ripley, delivered a camp meeting-style exhortation in the House to Jefferson, Vice President Aaron Burr, and a 'crowded audience.' Throughout his administration Jefferson permitted church services in executive branch buildings. The Gospel was also preached in the Supreme Court chambers."
