Novak Reveals Leak Case Testimony

The full article will be available tomorrow, according to Human Events, but I did get to read it earlier before they decided to reduce it to a teaser. Drudge also has some portions archived:

'I learned Valerie Plame's name from Joe Wilson's entry in 'Who's Who in America'... MORE Published reports that I took the Fifth Amendment, made a plea bargain with the prosecutors or was a prosecutorial target were all untrue... MORE... My primary source has not come forward to identify himself... Bill Harlow, the CIA public information officer who was my CIA source for the column confirming Mrs. Wilson's identity. I learned Valerie Plame's name from Joe Wilson's entry in 'Who's Who in America'... I answered questions using the names of Rove, Harlow and my primary source.

From what I can remember of the article, and there were lots of details, was that Plame was not "outed" intentionally, but rather inadvertently during a lengthy interview, and that throughout the investigation, Novak did not get the impression the leaking of her identity was in violation of the Covert Agent Identity Protection Act.

As far as I'm concerned, it all boils to this: this is not the big scandal the Democrats tried to make it into. This story is not and never was going to bring down Bush's presidency. All the effort and energy the Democrats put into exploiting this story has been wasted.

UPDATE: Eric Alterman has not been paying attention at all... What a moron.

Yoohoo- Steeeve--- Where are you?

Delay, TANG, Plamegate, Abu Graganarab, Git'mo, culture of corruption, etc. These Dems, and the DBM, have but one item on the agenda--take down this administration.

Why do the DemocRATs choose to ignore the worldwide threat of terrorism? India, Packistan, Indonesia, The Philippines, Chechenya(sp?), Central/South America, Canada, U.S. all have existing terrorists, yet all these DemocRATs can come up with is "we still haven't caught bin Laden." As if bin Laden's capture/elimination would suddenly end the threat...

Aubrey..

Peter Yost of the AP just released an article titled : Novak: Rove was a source in outing Plame

Nowhere in the article is it mentioned how Novak himself stated the primary source of Plame's name was Wilson's own entry in the Who's Who..

These bastard writers (what happened to being reporters?) are all intellectually dishonest buffoons who need to be exposed...

I wrote the AP and Yost blasting their lack of honest reporting..hope others do as well...

blacksheep,

Saw that, too...it is amazing what they'll do...

As an aside, the lack of leftwing comments here is likely due to there not being a set of leftwing talking points established...

Like I always say in cases like these... I am going to not say anything about the case either way. I don't know enough about it, and I don't pretend to be a legal scholar.

Though it does seem to be overblown, it all depends on the judge's ruling...

Like Tom Delay, the MSM is attempting to tie Karl Rove to a non-existent "crime." Valerie Plame [Joe] sWilson was a desk jockey. Everybody knew she worked at the CIA, including her neighbors and anybody that cared to look at the Vanity Fair centerfold.

Novak may have reported her identity to the press. But drunken Joey sWilson blabbed it all over town long before Novak put pen to paper.

Give it up loser libs!

Vanity Fair article? Can you say anacronism? I didn't think so.

What about that "fire the leaker" promise? What about Cheney denying even knowing Joe, but then wrote that hand-written note about Joe's wife? What about the investigation called for by the CIA itself for a non-crime? What about Brewster Jennings and every agent there that used to work on Iranian nuke intel? Was Fitzgerald lying when he stated at his October 28, 2005, press conference:

"Valerie Wilson was a CIA officer. In July 2003, the fact that Valerie Wilson was a CIA officer was classified. Not only was it classified, but it was not widely known outside the intelligence community. Valerie Wilson's friends, neighbors, college classmates had no idea she had another life. The fact that she was a CIA officer was not well-known, for her protection or for the benefit of all us. It's important that a CIA officer's identity be protected, that it be protected not just for the officer, but for the nation's security. Valerie Wilson's cover was blown in July 2003. The first sign of that cover being blown was when Mr. Novak published a column on July 14th, 2003." - Again, is Fitzgerald a liar, too?

All y'all have let GW and Rove talk you into jumping off the Empire State building with them. You all are somewhere around the 32nd floor, enjoying the breeze and admiring the view, calling liberals idiots for not joining you.

But justice is approaching fast... laugh while you can.

Sorry if this is a duplicate.

Vanity Fair article? Can you say anacronism?
I accept your challenge. "Anacronism."
What about Cheney denying even knowing Joe, but then wrote that hand-written note about Joe's wife?

Stupidest non-sequitur of all time. Where do we get these third-tier moonbats?

I don't know congressive. But I know his wife. I write a letter about his wife, with *gasp* my own hand (not somebody else's). Any questions?

What about the investigation called for by the CIA itself for a non-crime?

Only unhinged moonbats investigate non-crimes. Next!

What about Brewster Jennings and every agent there that used to work on Iranian nuke intel?

What about kumquats? This is getting tiresome. And I don't care who worked for Intel. But I thank them for my Celeron processor.

Was Fitzgerald lying...?

What do you think?

All y'all have let GW and Rove talk you into jumping off the Empire State building with them.

You first. I'll be right behind you. Here, let me give you a shove.

You all are somewhere around the 32nd floor, enjoying the breeze and admiring the view, calling liberals idiots....

Yes, you idiot. Meanwhile you're a rather large and messy meat pizza on the sidewalk below. Because, guess what? I'm not stupid enough to jump after seeing what happened to you.

Laugh while you can.

OK. Ahem. Muhahahaha! Moron.

Do I think Fitzgerald is a liar? Apparently, GW himself thinks Fitz is doing a heck of a job...

"The president did, however, praise Fitzgerald for his work as a special prosecutor in Washington, D.C., that led to the indictment of a top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney.

"You didn't see a lot leaks, you didn't see a lot of speculation, you didn't see a lot of people kind of dropping a little crumb here for the press to chew on. And I really thought he handled himself well," Bush said."

So, you disagree with Bush? You think Fitz is a liar and Bush doesn't care?

Hey, Bob's having a little fun. He's trying a little thing called the "sidestep." Nice dance. But you've got nothing.

The Vanity Fair article came AFTER the outing, so that's a lie.

CIA doesn't investigate non-crimes, so that's a lie.

You don't even know who Brewster Jennings is, do you? Here's a hint: it's not an Olympic athlete.

Fitz said Plame was outed, despite what Bob blurts, so unless Fitz is lying, Bob is.

What's that coming at you? Why, it looks like a sidewalk... ignore it. Enjoy the view!

congressive,

Brewster Jennings was a CIA front company. There wasn't anyone there doing anything for "Brewster Jennings". It didn't exist as a real entity.

And where did this "working on the Iranian nuke intel" come from? Out of thin air?

Exactly right. And how can the liberals square the heroic image they have of the "Pilsons" (get it? Plame/Wilson)with the blatant publicity hounding both have done in the past couple of years, especially Joe? Did you catch him on C-Span yucking it up on the Yearly Kommie Kos "Plame Panel"? But the joke was on him when Karl Rove was exonerated very shortly thereafter. BWAHAHAHA.

"What about that "fire the leaker" promise?" congressive

Can't be done...Joe Wilson doesn't work for the White House.

Posted by: phnxbmed at July 12, 2006 08:08 PM

When this first started to get attention, I saw an interview with Novak in which he said that he had been talking with the then-head of the DNC and kind of griping about Wilon misrepresenting the report he had actually given to the CIA and the DNC guy said, as if to excuse Wilson, "Oh, Joe's not so bad---and his wife works for the CIA, you know".

Andrea Mitchell said that the press who covered that angle of Washington news and politics all knew Plame worked for the CIA.

Plame had once been covert but had been brought back to the US after Aldrich Ames outed her, along with so many other covert agents, during his treasonous dealings with Russia. To think that she could ever be covert again is simply silly.

On top of that, her ex boss warned her when she started running around with Wilson that she was not going to be able to do any kind of undercover work at all if she had an open relationship with someone in the diplomatic corps. She said she understood. And this same boss went on to say, when she got engaged, that no one who was married to a diplomat could be covert---that anyone in the embassy was automatically assumed to be CIA, from nannies to chauffeurs, and that she understood this. He's been interviewed several times---and ignored by the neorad hysterics.

The Left excels at linking words that should not have been linked, and then repeating it often enough to get it into the national consciousness. Look at the conviction that the administration has indulged in "domestic spying" via "warrantless wiretapping". Repeat it often enough, and the sheep will start to repeat it. They did this very effectively with "CIA" and "agent". Then when these two unrelated words became a mantra, they added "outed" and all of a sudden, an image was created, but one that had never existed in reality.

And the Left completely ignores the fact that Wilson set up a situation in which it HAD to come out that his wife worked for the CIA. If he had not lied, and then lied again, and then worked so hard to create the impression that Cheney had, in an act of disloyalty to the President, asked HIM (a known anti-Bush, anti-war, person) to go check up on the President, none of this would have happened.

MY conspiracy theory is that Wilson, knowing that he was a has-been who never really was, as far as a diplomatic career was concerned, figured he could get a lot of media attention, write a book, and make some money, by setting it up so his wife, a FORMER 'agent' wno was now an analyst looking for another job, to become the Victim Of The Week. They had both lived exciting lives, in embassies, or as a covert agent, and had reached the apex of their individual careers. But they were going nowhere. Joe couldn't even get a low-class CIA gig without his wife pimping for him.

No one, not even Wilson, could have been so stupid that he could not anticipate a denial from the White House when he started making his very strange claims. There was no reason to invent a Cheney connection, other than to draw fire from the White House. Not angry retribution fire, simply correction of a lie fire. No, I think they put this together. They knew that Valerie's job was no big deal, so when it became public knowledge it wouldn't really matter. But they had a chance to be famous, to make some money, to hit the talk shows and get in Vanity Fair, and to hurt the pres at the same time---it was all good.

And with the help of an eager, willing, and overexcited MSM, it worked like a charm. They hit the talk shows, Val got photographed in some duds from Spies "R" Us in Vanity Fair, Joe was a hero to the Lefties, the White House got dragged into a psuedo-scandal, they even got an indictment out of it. And it was set up from the get-go as a win-win for the Left. If the White House let the lies ride, they looked like idiots and the Left could continue to claim dissent and disloyalty and so on within the ranks. If they set the record straight, they walked into an ambush. And in either case, Wilon would get his fifteen minutes of fame.

And the neorad faithful performed as required.

While Vanity Fair came after, the Who's Who entry preceded the "scandal".

Plame was so stupid, she listed Brewster Jennings as her employer when she donated to radical left-wing causes. When Novak learned this (it's a matter of public record) he did a Lexis-Nexis search and it took him about five minutes on the computer to learn that the company was a fraud. They were so inept they didn't even have a current phone number. To paraphrase a favorite new Lefty mantra---"They already KNEW it was a front!" At least anyone who checked could figure it out in a heartbeat.

Fitz hardly claimed Plame was "outed" as he, by his own admission, never even ASKED about her status. Maybe in LeftyLand you can "out" someone without ever even knowing/caring if she was "in" but not in the real world. If the Special Prosecutor couldn't even be bothered to find out if the woman was covert in the first place, why should anyone else care?

The CIA wasn't too concerned---Novak called to ask if she worked there and was told yes. Covert?

Bob did create a lovely picture in my mind of Cheney writing with someone else's hand. Thanks for that one, Bob.

If you guys worked as hard at ANYTHING else as you do at swallowing the unswallowable, embracing the unembraceable, believing the unbelieveable, you might actually be one of those "top 1%" you keep going after.

Great comments as always. You really seem to understand the liberal mindset.

Almiranta,

Excellent summary.

I have always figured that the whole Plame/Wilson affair was exactly as you depicted - a win/win for the liberals.
