Its not like either man was ragingly popular: the winner got 35.88%, the loser 35.31%. In statistics, that is within the margin of error. Obrador is claiming fraud, and in an election like this anyone who looks is going to find hundreds of odd happenings which can be cast, if one has a mind, in the worst possible light as evidence of fraud. But does it really matter?
Suppose that Calderon did stuff the ballot boxes just enough to secure victory - how could anyone possibly prove that absent a corrborated confession from someone who actually stuffed the ballot boxes? Obrador's demand right now is that each of the 42 million-odd ballots be examined individually...by whom? What are they supposed to see? They have to find 113,000 Obrador votes without finding any Calderon votes. This is impossible. If fraud caused Obrador's loss, there's nothing to be done about it at this point.
Fraud or not, the election was a tie - the people of Mexico, after carefully considering the men and the issues, couldn't make up their collective mind on the subject. Clearly, Mexico does not know precisely which direction it wishes to go...so, there will be a President who is opposed by more than 60% of the electorate, and he'll have a Congress dominated by his political opponents. What this means is that this is the time for genuine statesmanship - it is time for those who love Mexico to step up to the plate and do the right thing.
Obrador isn't a statesman.
Instead of realising that Mexico needs a smooth transition to the new Presidency - and instead of realising that if he plays his cards right he'll have a strong influence on policy during this Presidency and an even-money shot at winning it outright next time 'round - what Obrador is doing is calling for his supporters to demonstrate loudly in the street as Obrador shouts that he was robbed. Instead of working for Mexico, Obrador has chosen to give vent to his frustrated leftwing ideology which can't stand the thought of not winning at the ballot box.
This is so typical of a leftist - hate filled, bitter and mean spirited, Obrador doesn't give a damn what happens to Mexico...after all, it is a Mexico which failed him: it didn't give him power, and thus Mexico must pay a high price. All around the world and everywhere, the leftist still holds to Lenin's maxim: "the worse, the better". To the leftist, power is all that matters - and it doesn't matter if all they end up ruling is a graveyard, just so long as they rule.

For the Left 110 Million dead just is not enough either.
As bitter as that race was, I suspect Calderon would have been every bit contrarian as the evil lefty candidate was.
Leslie, I'm not sure what your comment meant. But as a "Left" 1 dead is too many.
Lets see: Perhaps its the people that have been killed or murdered by regimes that the left trumpets or trumpeted as "Models of socialist utopias" ranging from CHina to CUba, the SOviet union to NOrth Korea. . just about anywhere someone says they practice socialist and wealth redistribution, suddenly their sins should be ignored.
And . . .
FOr every one story you can dredge up about a bitter rightie claiming that the election was "Stolen" from him immediately after an election, I can find you tend lefties.
Ranging from "REcount until I win, damnit!" Gore to "REcount until I win, Damnit" Gregoire, to "Recount until I win, Damnit!" Obrador. . and the list goes on. .
Ash,
It's just another right-winger comparing liberals to Stalin.
Guess we have Stalin, they have Mussolini and Hitler.
Everyone's evil!
More side-splitting laughs over at DUmmie Funnies.
Ah. I guess I'd better hide under my bed.
GET ER DONE!! GET ER DONE!!
