Open Thread: Mexican Election

Sorry for the lack of new posts today - some of us poor slobs had to work.

At any rate - here we can discuss the Mexican election, and it looks as though the conservative Calderon squeeked out a win, but no one is sure if the leftist Obrador will accept the result.

An asteroid cam real close - in cosmic terms - to earth today.

Israel is refusing to negotiate for the release of their captured soldier - my view is that this is the correct response. The poor soldier might have to pay a soldier's debt, but it is better than to have the terrorists go into the business of kidnapping soldiers in order to force Israel to release captive terrorists.

Lieberman says he'll run as an Independent if he loses the Donk primary - yet more proof of the disintegration of the Democratic Party, if you ask me.

Chat away - keep it clean! No rudeness!

UPDATE: As regards Mexico, it can't get much closer than this: 36.38% for Calderon, 35.34% for Obrador, the rest divvied up among the also-rans.

UPDATE II: Cindy Sheehan and others are having a fast for peace...if you are in the DC area tomorrow, please head over and eat a cheeseburger for victory.

With North Korea threatening nuclear war - it sure would be nice if the "liberals" would pull together behind the national leadership and military.

But, it would be nice to win the lottery also. And I din't see THAT happening either.

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 3, 2006 04:06 PM

Fortunately, Kahn, there are more of us than there are of them, and national demographics indicate that that's not going to change any time soon. Must suck to be a Liberal Democrat. (Hope that's not too rude, Mark.)

Liberals are for military action in regards to the supposed impending N. Korea missle test.

Yeah, what's up with that? Trying to show everyone that you're not really a bunch of pussies? I really did roll on the floor laughing when that wimpy little former Clinton era SECDEF, William Perry, suggested shooting it down.

Posted by: Retired Spook [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 3, 2006 05:13 PM

How quickly Spooky resorts to rudeness. And I was going to go gentle on you girls!

Paranoid girls at that. Whooo. The Syrians are going to kick our butts. Whoo it's really the N. Koreans. Better stock up on clean undies in case a serious threat like China "threatens" us.

Must suck to be paranoid.

Posted by: Ash [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 3, 2006 05:29 PM

Seriously, do you guys think you are tough? You can't even find the one guy you are looking for, and then, when you are being made fun of for not being able to find him, you pick a fight with someone else and then almost lost THEM. Bumbling retards you are, and not tough ones, just thick skulled and full of paranoia that you have a small penis.

I think Lieberman is a closet Republican. He supports Bush on all the important issues. If he runs as an independent does he hurt the Dems?

Posted by: toozee at July 3, 2006 06:00 PM

Just a guess here, but I'm betting that if Calderon is declared the winner, for YEARS tearful and outraged MexLibs will be crying that he STOLE the election from Obrador. Just a hunch, from one who studied history.

How close WAS that asteroid?

Israel is right to refuse to negotiate. I have been very happy to have Osama slinking from cave to cave rather than being an American prisoner, fearing a rash of similar kidnapings to try to force his release. I can't imagine a more agonizing decison by a world leader, nor a more responsible one. It takes a true leader to put responsibility ahead of feel-good considerations.

I don't agree with Lieberman politically but I do respect his integrity. I think he got drawn into some Lib mudslinging in 2000, but he always looked like he had a stomach-ache when he did it, and I think he might run a campaign on issues, a new approach for a Dem. And it could make for a very interesting lineup----a make-believe Boston Brahmin make-believe war hero, a moderate Jew, and a black woman is one possible scenario. Or throw Hillary into the mix. (No jokes, please. I said 'mix', not 'mixer'.) A strident uber-Liberal Marxist (posing as a moderate) who supports the war, a true moderate Jew who supports the war, and an amazingly educated and qualified black woman who supports the war.

OT---

Does anyone know if there's a way to come out in support of Prez Bush when he goes to different locations? I recognize they don't publish his whole itinerary, for security reasons, but I noticed some moonbats showed up to protest against him when he went to Graceland with Japan's PM (way to show solidarity and patriotism when a foreign leader is visiting, guys). But is there a way to know how WE can show up and wave flags, etc.? I want President Bush to know not everybody is suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome, that many of us love and support him.

Posted by: Lesley at July 3, 2006 07:44 PM

Don't blame me. I didn't vote for McGreevey (D) or Corzine (D).

"Liberals are for military action in regards to the supposed impending N. Korea missle test." Tom Shipley

But military action would be unilateral, heavens to mergatroid! I thought that nothing warranted that.

Posted by: phnxbmed at July 3, 2006 08:38 PM

I think Obama would be better for the Dems - and the country - as the liberal candidate.

I hear Bin Laden made the FBI Most Wanted. I wonder why, other than posturing? Osama is not going to come within the FBI's juristiction, except in cuffs.

As for Mexico, neither candidate is a good choice for America. One is anti-American in principle, the other is crooked enough to be anti-American through his actions.

Girls, huh? Why don't you come over to MD, and we'll see who the girl is. I'll have you screetching like a beyotch in no time, all the way back to SF, you puss.

Begining her anti-war fast, mother Sheehan was quoted as saying: "We represent millions of Americans who withdraw their support from this government."

Withdraw their support from this government?? How can something that never existed be withdrawn?

Posted by: phnxbmed at July 3, 2006 09:27 PM

Fantasyland: what if Obrador taxed the crap out of Mexico's rich 100 families for giant infrastructure projects to create millions of jobs with a minimum wage higher than ours? Do you think even ONE more Mexican would come here? Since you have to be a Mexican citizen to work in government jobs, you might even see a flood of illegals head south all on their own.

But I guess we don't want THAT, do we?

No Toozee, Lieberman is an old school Democrat. Back in the day there were good Republicans and good Democrats. Today there aren't many of either left, but far fewer good Democrats.

Today JFK couldn't win the presidency on the Democratic ticket. Truman...you're kidding. No, the sane Democrats of the past that believed in a strong military as well as bread and butter issues are mostly long gone. And those that remain (Lieberman, Zell Miller, Sam Nunn, etc) are ripped apart by the left in their continued onward leftward sprint to full out Socialism.

The country needs more Democrats like Lieberman quite frankly.

What will we do with all of that caviar and roast duck? Maybe we can serve it on those airplanes that they are going to be taking out of the country if Bush is elected.

President Bush told the special prosecutor in the CIA leak case that he directed Vice President Dick Cheney to personally lead an effort to counter allegations made by former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV that his administration had misrepresented intelligence information to make the case to go to war with Iraq, according to people familiar with the president's statement.

Posted by: Ash [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 3, 2006 10:01 PM

Ash, and thats completely reasonable to me. Joe Wilson did in fact lie about Cheney sending him to Africa (in a major op-ed piece). We know now that his wife had a lot to dod with being sent. So, isn't it rasonable for us to know this? If listening to terrist phone calls and exactly how we track their money is important for us to know....isn't it important that we know Wilson was lieing and his CIA wife was involved in that lie?

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 3, 2006 10:25 PM

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 3, 2006 10:26 PM

Where does this notion that Obama is Presidential material comefrom?

He is still serving his first term as a Senator, after easily winning in Illinois because the GOP there self-destructed.

He was another Chicago Democrat party hack, who had an undistinguished career, and basically did whatever Ritchie Daley told him to do.

His career so far, has been primarily as a yes man and cover for those Dems who have had trouble with support in the black community. His recent comments about religion wasn't an affirmation of his faith, but an explanation of how Democrats should use religion in the upcoming election campaigns.

Kahn, Joe Wilson did NOT in fact lie about Cheney sending him to Africa in a major op-ed piece.

Read it: WILSON OP ED PIECE (CLICK HERE) where Wilson says "In February 2002, I was informed by officials at the Central Intelligence Agency that Vice President Dick Cheney's office had questions about a particular intelligence report. While I never saw the report, I was told that it referred to a memorandum of agreement that documented the sale of uranium yellowcake — a form of lightly processed ore — by Niger to Iraq in the late 1990's. The agency officials asked if I would travel to Niger to check out the story so they could provide a response to the vice president's office."

Notice WHO sent him to Niger. Read it twice if you have to. Then again. He DOESN'T CLAIM CHENEY SENT HIM!!! The agency did. Read it again. Then stop the bull...

Posted by: congressive [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 3, 2006 11:05 PM

Now really boys, as you look around you,

1. How many have civilians have died in Iraq this last few days? Mr. Cheney says "there in the last throes" (again). Spin?

2. Afganistan is starting to crumble. The poppy production is way up. Excuses?

3. Japan, Italy and other colalition forces are pulling out, enough is enough. Rhetoric?

4. Another investigation in progress, with potential rape and murder involved. At this point an investigation, nothing more, but still, fellas, please. Fained ignorence?

5. GM sales down 25%? 25%!. Trickle down? Hold on to your hats. (Did ya see Toyota's?).

6. Iranian timeline. July 12th. Hmmm, I see Russia and China licking their chops. Diplomacy?
Sanctions? Will the sanctions affect the world? You betcha...again hold on to your hats.

7. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Its all the NYT's fault. The whole nightmare. Bomb them. It's all their fault. Paalleeaassee.

8. The supreme court decision. Nuff said.

9. North Korea? Yikes! Wha..wha..happened here?
Aren't they the third head of the serpent? Good going W. Your on the ball on this one. Let's see our troops are committed in Iraq, Iran's next week, hmmm, wow, what'a a President to do?

And yet, o' wise ones, you continue to make excuse after excuse. Look around you. Everyones on edge. If someone lights a match, the whole kit and kaboodle goes up.

Happy Birthday W.

Congressive...yes in that Opt Ed piece you are correct. Though you forgot this tidbit....

* Joe Wilson: “[W]hat They Did, What The Office Of The Vice President Did, And, In Fact, I Believe Now From Mr. Libby’s Statement, It Was Probably The Vice President Himself ...” (CNN’s “Late Edition,” 8/3/03)"

You also omitted a few details about Mr. Wilson fromt he 9/11 committee, the CIA and the Senate Committee on Intelligence.

"Both the Senate Committee on Intelligence and the CIA found assessments Wilson made in his report were wrong."

A few Joe Wilson beauties here...10 of them

That's what I thought.

N. Korea...didn't Clinton and his envoy Jimmy Carter cut a deal so they wouldn't build nukes...but but but but they promised us. Nice one Democrats.

Japan and Italy...oh no.

The Supreme Court decision does nothing but force Congress to make this law...which is fine. Put all those liberal pussy Democrats on the record again where they stand. Do they want the rights of the Terrorists to outweigh the rights of victims? Criminals or victims...put them on the record. THANK YOU SCOTUS!!

I was just wondering. What has W done about:

1. Weening us from the oil teet? Anything? Again, anything substantial? Throw me a bone here. In the arab oil embargo we dropped the speed limit to 55 for goodness sake. (To save oil right?)

2. Finding OSBL. Anything? (I forgot, he's hiding). How rich.

3. Reducing the trade deficit?

4. Finding a way out of this Iraqi debacle? Or are we just going on and on like the energizer bunny. That's real blood out there fella's.

5. Make affordable health care a priority.

6. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, New Orleans. Anything? Direction. Results? Anything?

Maroons.

Rush's got the wood!

Raker...I'm sorry, if Bill Clinton had taken care of Bin Laden the 3 times he was handed to us we wouldn't even be in this mess. In the meantime, last I checked we have taken out, captured or killed just about all of the top Al Queda leadership except for Bin Laden. He's hiding somewhere...it's only a matter of time.

Getting us off the oil teat...last I checked we had put billions into Hydrogen technology. In the meantime, we have ANWR and other opportunities waiting for us to tap into but you lunatics won't let us.

Make affordable health care a priority...you mean like Canada where you have to wait 6 months for a simple operation...wow, where can we sign up for such a great system. No thanks.

New Orleans...only an asshole like yourself could put that in there without understanding it. I go down there about 3 times a year. If you haven't seen the progress in the last 6 months then it's only because your cornfed liberal media hasn't given it to you. There's been plenty of progress. Of course the fact that the state is run by corrupt Democrats and the city by inept Democrats hasn't helped now has it...oh nevermind, they are never at fault...no no, not the leaders that actually LIVE there and misappropriated funding for 4 decades. No no, let's not worry about them.

Iraq...yeah it is real blood...guess what, that's sometimes necessary. 2500 lives lost. Korea had over 50,000 and so did Vietnam. This has been the most effective and lease damaging war ever fought in modern times. You wouldn't know it by the idiots like yourself, however.

Muslim Britain split over 'martyrs' of 7/7
TimesOnline(UK)
by Alexandra Frean and Rajeev Syal
July 04, 2006

A SIGNIFICANT minority of British Muslims believe they are at war with the rest of society, the largest poll of Muslims in this country suggests. The Populus survey for The Times and ITV News has found that more than one in ten thinks that the men who carried out the London bombings of 7/7 should be regarded as “martyrs”. Sixteen per cent of British Muslims, equivalent to more than 150,000 adults, believe that while the attacks were wrong, the cause was right.
***

So "more than one in ten" Muslims think the 7/7 London bombers were "martyrs". I wonder how many more Muslims also agree that they were "martyrs" but didn't want to admit it to the non-Muslim pollsters???

The UK has a major problem brewing in its midst.

As far as GM goes: How about building a good product? Why does it seem that American auto makers are always playing catch up? Front wheel drive, smaller more economical cars, hybrid cars. GM always a day late and a dollar short. Can't blame that on the unions. Blame that on unimaginitive and arrogant management.

Posted by: Ash [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 4, 2006 02:03 AM

Yup Ash...always the management's fault.

Answer me this. Why is it that almost every airline is bankrupt in this country....except the ones that are NOT unionized.

GM no doubt has design issues, but they also have quality issues. Management doesn't put the cars together...labor does.

Management is also forced to use cheap ass parts and designs because so much costs are already built into the construction of the car for pension and other labor related costs. It all adds up.

Posted by: Warriornation [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 4, 2006 02:15 AM

Make affordable health care a priority...you mean like Canada where you have to wait 6 months for a simple operation...wow, where can we sign up for such a great system. No thanks

Believe me it's in all of our best interests to make sure you get your shock treatments and medications. You get a pass on the universal health care.

Do you see no options between the nearly unaffordable hodgepodge we have now and a system you imagine to be so bad as Canadas. Is your world always one of extremes?

And if you look at life expectancy statistics, the United States ranks 48th, well behind Canada. Behind Bosnia, Guam, Puerto Rico.

Posted by: Ash [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 4, 2006 02:15 AM

Exactly what is an American Car anyway?

MADE IN AMERICA

....Faced with fierce competition and the globalization of the automotive industry, Ford and General Motors have looked outside our borders for cheaper parts and assembly; as the cost of building a car has gone up and the responsibility of pensions and pay has weighed down, US automakers have been getting decidedly less American, and the national distinction of their vehicles considerably more blurry. At the same time, foreign automakers have invested here; the likes of Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and others have put down stakes and have built their own American legacy over the span of 30 years. Now, generations of Americans look at these companies as the providers of the American Ideal. While traditional US automakers have been closing plants and moving production, foreign automakers have busied themselves with opening new plants, design shops and parts centers, employing people and rejuvenating local economies. Today, their cars are just as American as any other.

As a result, it’s hard to tell what really an American-made car is, and perhaps even why it matters. Car buyers who wish to buy American have a confusing maze of information to navigate: there’s the location of the assembly plant, the percentage of parts content, the ideal of that name on the grille, and, finally, where the pocket is that will take the profit and re-invest it into future cars and products. Each element weighs differently to each person, to be sure, so we have attempted to create a comprehensive guide to understanding what it is that makes a car an American car. Because it’s jobs and investment that matter most, we rank the assembly and parts makeup of a vehicle as most important, followed by the location of the corporate parent and, finally, the name of the brand.

Ash....if it was so unaffordable then why do nearly 250,000,000 Americans have health insurance?

Is it always the sky is falling with you clowns?

And of the 50,000,000 that don't have it...how many CHOOSE not to have it? You know, college age kids, young adults that believe they will never get sick or die and choose to spend their money on other things? I knew tons of people like this. They simply don't want to spend their money on it, but it doesn't mean they can't afford it. They CHOOSE not to.

Lastly, every American has the right to medical care whether they have insurance or not. So this boogeyman argument out there that people somehow are left on the street dying due to lack of health insurance is a complete canard.

Why is it always the sky is falling with you clowns?

And of the 50,000,000 that don't have it...how many CHOOSE not to have it? You know, college age kids, young adults that believe they will never get sick or die and choose to spend their money on other things? I knew tons of people like this. They simply don't want to spend their money on it, but it doesn't mean they can't afford it. They CHOOSE not to.

Lastly, every American has the right to medical care whether they have insurance or not. So this boogeyman argument out there that people somehow are left on the street dying due to lack of health insurance is a complete canard.

Here's what I would do RIGHT NOW.

Lower the speed limit to 55. Strictly enforce it. Immediately develop (if not already done) a speed limiting govenor which will allow no more than 65 mph for passing. This alone will save an incredible amount of oil. Follow up with easy to implement alternatives. (I don't want to go back to the odd and even rationing days, but if it will save a life so be it.) Allow a tax deduction for riding public transport. There are immediate things we can and must do. Peak oil, commrades.

I have no doubt we know exactly where a 6'4" dialysis requiring Arab is.

We can take the best of the Canadian method and improve on it. Do we have to copy exactly? Is there room to improve? Do we just go Nahhhh, I don't think so. Again, devote some of our best brains in championing the world's best health care system. It can be done. If at first we take baby steps, so we take them. We must do SOMETHING.

I have not been to N.O. In reading objective commentary, I must assume things are not so rosy there. Your comments reveal the same things you say about improvement in Iraq. Things are rosy there too right? WRONG. Things are not rosy in Iraq (its a undenyable mess) or in N.O. We can DO BETTER.

I have purchased many new U.S. automobiles. Except for trucks (and why is that?) most U.S. cars seem to self-destruct after 100K. They literally fall to pieces. The unions will put together what they are trained to put together. With American pride, I remind you. If the manufacturers offer a shoddy product, the "unions" can not work miracles. The answer again is obvious. Corporate greed with no real concern for the American public. The Japanese have improved in all their manufacturing process' and the old saying "made in Japan" no longer applies. American people are not as stupid as you think. They know a good product and will buy from whatever country offers it. Don't blame the worker you meatheads. The U.S. automobile manufacturers deserve what is coming to them. Period.

My point is: What can be done RIGHT NOW? Hydrogen fuel cells my a$$. We won't have the technology to deliver it to the pump economically for many years. Wise up and stop using rhetoric.

I use "maroons" because I'm nice. Trust me, I would gladly use other descriptors if givin the chance.

Your friend,

Raker.

phnx,

Don't you know? When Sheehan was in that Texas ditch, she was actually still considered a Bush Republican...

Seriously, though, what she means is that she withdraws her support for the United States - she has gone complete 'round and is now on the side of the terrorists.

One last comment for the evening.

Happy Birthday W.

As I reflect on this great occasion, I pause to wonder, just what happened to W's generation?

What happened to marching for civil rights? What happened to hippies? What happened to standing up and singing "give peace a chance"? What happened to flower power. What happened to all those vietnam vets with agent orange poisioning. What happened to all those vet's with post traumatic stress syndrome. What happened to the people who attended Woodstock? What happened to the students that stood up to the National Guard at Kent State?

What happened to Huey, Angela, and our black gloved fist raising oylmpians. What happened to Students for a democratic society?

Where you all assimillated as money grubbing, SUV driving, catch a quick 9, ugly republicans? Do you all live in such abject fear that you are willing to easily give up those civil rights you once marched for?

What happened to you all? Did you just disappear?
Are the issues of today not worth fighting for? Are you all so tired from everyday living that the most you can muster is the strength to sit down in front of the TV thats tuned to FOX, eat your dinner and and then turn the channel to CSI?

You are a pathetic generation. Look at yourselves in the mirror. You fat, balding, hunk of yellow chicken fat filled globs of goo.

Look at yourselves in the mirror.

Laugh, then cry, at what you have become.

Here's a terrific article on America from one of the British on this July 4th holiday! Cheers, mate!
:)

The American Dream has come True

The FirstPost
"Why does modern America have so few cheerleaders? William Langley returns from the US smitten again"

[...]"Yet on a recent trip back to Washington DC where I lived for the Clinton years, it was impossible to escape the good news. Almost all of America's important social indicators - the measures of the true health of a nation - are pointing in the right direction.

Welfare cases have fallen by an astounding 60 per cent in the last decade. Marriage is growing in popularity, while divorce rates, having soared in the Sixties and Seventies, are falling - as are the rates of teenage pregnancy, drug use and suicide. Alcohol consumption among the young has fallen by 31 per cent since the mid-Eighties, and smoking by almost 50 per cent.

Young Americans are discovering sex later than their parents, and have fewer partners. A new, virtuous, generation is emerging.

[...] Crime rates, not only in New York but across the country, continue to decline rapidly. According to the Department of Justice, violent offences overall have dropped by 55 per cent since 1993, while teenage offending is down by 71 per cent.

Property crimes are at their lowest level since Federal statistics began in the early Seventies. Beyond the lawless pockets of a few big cities, America is now one of the least crime-troubled societies on earth.

How has all this happened? And why, amid the relentless onslaught of America-bashing, do we hear so little about it? The New York Times commentator David Brooks gives a simple explanation: "People have stopped believing in stupid ideas; that the traditional family is obsolete, that drugs are liberating, that it is every adolescent's social duty to rebel."

This is essentially correct. From the Sixties onwards, America witnessed widespread social decay in the form of family break-up, drug tolerance and attacks, in the name of liberal values, on what had traditionally been viewed as the parameters of decency. A new generation of Americans, having seen and reviewed the results, wants to change things.

"Americans today," says Brooks, "are leading more responsible, organised lives. The result is an improvement in social order."

You feel it everywhere. In the courteousness and generosity of ordinary Americans, and the pride they have in their country. We don't hear much about it, because it doesn't fit our Euro-jaundiced view of what the United States is. And when someone like Bratton offers us a helping hand we prefer to ignore it.

War, did you read your own post?

"Joe Wilson: “[W]hat They Did, What The Office Of The Vice President Did, And, In Fact, I Believe Now From Mr. Libby’s Statement, It Was Probably The Vice President Himself ...” (CNN’s “Late Edition,” 8/3/03)"

Right after your GOP cut-and-paste talking point, it tries to make this a lie by saying: "Vice President Cheney: “I Don’t Know Joe Wilson." Now we find out when the op ed piece came out, Cheney hand-wrote in the margins of the op-ed piece "Have they done this sort of thing before? Send an Amb. [sic] to answer a question? Do we ordinarily send people out pro bono to work for us? Or did his wife send him on a junket?" meaning not only did he know Wilson, but that his undercover wife was CIA. AND that he HAD ASKED THE QUESTION that the CIA answered by sending Joe. Smell the manure yet? No, of course not. These are your kings and gods and can do no wrong.

In 1991, President George Bush introduced Joseph Wilson to his war Cabinet, calling the veteran diplomat "a true American hero" for putting his own life on the line to free 150 Americans held hostage by Saddam. Wilson is the very definition of a true patriot, and to date has been proven correct again and again. Even the Senate Committee on Intelligence and the CIA have SINCE THEN proven him right.

It's gonna hurt when you fall.

They are running the MSM, the Democratic Party, most of the large corporations, most of the large non-profits, half the judiciary, three quarters of the legal profession, Hollywood and higher education...and just as they made a mess of everything in the 60's, they are making a mess of where they are now...

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 4, 2006 03:43 AM

Warrior, you're wasting your time with Ashley and raper13. Read their posts; when they're attempting to genuinely debate a point, their arguments read just like the talking points of any seminar caller who gets on the radio talk shows, only to be cut off and dismissed.

To guys(?) such as Ashley and raper13, history began in January 2001; i.e., none of America's problems existed prior to President Bush taking office. So-called manmade global warming didn't exist; we weren't dependent on the rest of the world for oil, there was no terror threat; there was no recession; and the rest of the world loved us because Slicky Blue Dress was so great.

Forget it, Warrior; these guys are like an old man I encountered at a garage sale I was holding over the weekend. We debated the war, and President Bush, and I dismissed his old ass. But he hung around, looking at my junk, and trying to make small talk. He was a lonely old man, looking for someone to talk to. I should've told him about blogging, where he could meet such folks as Ashley and raper13--guys like him.

What happened to marching for civil rights?

The illegals have taken up the cause, and they' so much better at it than Jesse and Al.

What happened to hippies?

Many died of heroin overdoses. Many fled to Canada and spawned pinko children. Some even became U.S. Senators and Congressmen. Some formed cults and became mass murderers.

What happened to standing up and singing "give peace a chance"?

We gave peace a chance, from 1991 until 2003. It gave us the USS Cole, the embassy bombings, Khobar Towers, and two attacks on the WTC, the last of which was the straw. It also gave us 14 conflicts throughout the globe, all of which involve radical Islamic militants, murdering hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of innocent men, women, and children.

What happened to flower power.

Flowers never stopped a car bomber or a suicide bomber in Israel.

What happened to all those vietnam vets with agent orange poisioning.

Some died; some are languishing in VA hospitals; some became bitter and joind your girlfriend Cindy Sheehan; and some got over it as best as they could, and became productive citizens.

What happened to all those vet's with post traumatic stress syndrome.

Same as above, idiot.

What happened to the people who attended Woodstock?

Some died of drug overdoses; some grew up and became conservatives; some became pinko journalists: some became DemocRAT congressmen and women.

What happened to the students that stood up to the National Guard at Kent State?

Four unfortunate souls never saw the end of the protest; many are still protesting today; some grew up and became good Republicans; some became pinko journalists and professors.

Happy Independence Day--I must go and fly the Stars and Stripes proudly. Ashley, raper13, go fly your hammer and sickle proudly. For all you French and French Canadians, a white hanky on a stick will do nicely...

I'm new to this blog and to blogging. My daughter gave me this computer for Mom's day and I've been in learning mode. Please excuse me if I make a mistake because all the rules are not clear to me yet.

It seems to me that all this anger and diatribe is not useful to the health of our democracy. This country is great because it is based on a constitution which encourages the right to disagree, to debate, to have discourse on issues on which there are serious divisions.

We need to step back on this anniversary celebrating our independence and do some critical thinking about what makes this country great. And we need to look as objectively as we can at how important the rights we have are. Reasoned debate and argument are vital; name calling and vicious un-reasoned attack are not. The purpose of the latter seems to be to one-up and shut out the detractor rather than to present a point of view.

So, Happy Independence Day everyone. If you have a copy of the Constitution, please take a moment to read it. We need some review!

You still can't answer my query as to why Canada has a longer life expectancy than the United States, if their system is so inferior. Maybe we would do better if pharmacuetical companies concentrated more on real problems and less on that 17th release of viagra clones. But then again that's more profitable and ta da- thats capitalism run amuck.

Pensions for long time loyal employees? Wow how awful. A living wage? Ditto.

And yes in this case it is managements fault. Since they were so slow to respond to reducing the size of their tanks to meet the growing trend for smaller more economical cars. They have been playing catch up ever since. Who introduced the first hybrid cars? Toyota and Honda. Four wheel drives? Subaru.

You are right about defining "foriegn" and "domestic" automobiles. Aren't Toyotas put together in Kentucky? So the success of Toyota isn't in the labor pool, it is in good management.

Finally, GM admits it has to add $1,000 dollars to every automobile produced to cover health insurance. Wouldn't they be more competitive is there was universal health care and they could reduce their price?

As a photographer I know I could be sued for taking and publishing photographs of private property. So when I read about this ruckus I knew that permission had been obtained. Otherwise there would have been a mucho publicized law suit.

May you take a few moments to look into your spouse's eyes and tell them how grateful you are for all they do. Will God be allowed to return to America?

Here's an update for those of you who have been following the Mount Soledad National War Memorial where a SINGLE ATHEIST, the ACLU, and the liberal courts want to remove the cross from a Korean War Memorial where it has stood for decades! (Next, the ACLU and the atheists will be after the crosses on the graves of our troops in our national cemeteries.)

"A long-running legal battle over a 29-foot-tall cross atop one of the highest hills in San Diego took a new twist on Monday when the United States Supreme Court issued a stay temporarily blocking a lower court order forcing the city to remove it."

This temporarily stays a decision by Judge Patricia Cowett that invalidated Proposition A which would have allowed the cross to be donated to the federal government and was APPROVED BY 76 PERCENT OF THE VOTERS!!!

It doesn't matter what 76% of the people want... it's what that ONE atheist and the ACLU wants!!!!!

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy Issues Stay.

Is The Secular Extremist Trend About To Be Reversed?

"On the eve of the Fourth of July, Associated Press immediately reported a delightful development: the United States Supreme Court, by Justice Anthony Kennedy, had temporarily enjoined the removal of the Cross that has been part of the Mount Soledad National War Memorial, located on city property in San Diego, California, for many years. At the request of an atheist (Philip Paulson), a federal judge (Gordon Thompson Jr.) had ordered the city of San Diego to remove that Cross or be fined $5,000 a day, based on his view that the presence of the Cross constituted an unconstitutional endorsement of Christianity over other religions."

"The Mount Soledad Cross case affords the United States Supreme Court the opportunity to reconsider and to remedy the much mistaken and muddled state of the law as to the First Amendment's religious clauses, and to reverse the secular extremist course that the Court suddenly and senselessly took in 1947, in the Everson case. In Everson, the United States Supreme Court wrongly expanded the scope of the establishment clause, creating contradiction and confusion best remedied by completely correcting the egregious error."

If not this time, the removal of a couple more of those activist liberal judges from the Supreme Court will return God to America as our founding fathers intended -- freedom of religion, not freedom from religion!!!

Religion, Christianity, and God ARE UNDER ATTACK by atheists, liberals [progressive Democrats], and the ACLU!

Don't allow the liberal left to convince you otherwise.

You say Democrats cut and run? George Bush SURRENDERED TODAY to Osama bin Laden!!! Dear God, what are they thinking?!?!?

C.I.A. Closes Unit Focused on Capture of bin Laden

The United States of America officially lost the actual war sparked by the most visibly devastating terror attack on American soil because "Al Qaeda is no longer as hierarchical as it once was."

Someone explain this. Is Bin Laden a CIA op? Is Bin Laden already believed dead? Was bin Laden faked from the beginning? I don't give a rat's backside if bin Laden no longer has a single freaking follower. Bush's new appointee, Hayden, who botched the intel on 9/10/2001, has surrendered. Why? Good God.

There are so many leaks in the US gov't, to suggest that they know where OBL is and it's not leaked is just an absolute joke.

Congressive...you IDIOT...did you read your OWN ARTICLE YOU POSTED?

The realignment reflects a view that Al Qaeda is no longer as hierarchical as it once was, intelligence officials said, and a growing concern about Qaeda-inspired groups that have begun carrying out attacks independent of Mr. bin Laden and his top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

"Agency officials said that tracking Mr. bin Laden and his deputies remained a high priority, [did you read that Congressive: REMAINS A HIGH PRIORITY] and that the decision to disband the unit was not a sign that the effort had slackened. [did you read that Congressive: NOT A SIGN THAT THE EFFORT HAD SLACKEND] Instead, the officials said, it reflects a belief that the agency can better deal with high-level threats by focusing on regional trends rather than on specific organizations or individuals.

"The efforts to find Osama bin Laden are as strong as ever," said Jennifer Millerwise Dyck, a C.I.A. spokeswoman. [does that sound like "surrendering" to you, Congressive?]"This is an agile agency, and the decision was made to ensure greater reach and focus."

You know, that story on the CIA closing the unit going after bin laden is interesting. Read this story yesterday about how al-zawqari's cell phone had Iraqi government official's numbers in it.

http://edition.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/07/03/zarqawi.ap/

The interesting part in relation the CIA unit story is this:

"Meanwhile, al-Zarqawi's wife told an Italian newspaper that al Qaeda leaders sold him out to the United States in exchange for a promise to let up in the search for Osama bin Laden."

I didn't give it much credibility when I read it, but in light of them closing that unit, it makes you think...

Ash

Let's look at some other things between Canada and the USA.

USA birth rate of 14.1 while Canada only 10.1

USA unemployment 4.9% while Canada 7.0%

USA spends more on R&D than Canada as percentage of GDP

USA spends more on education than Canada as percentage of GDP

Nobel Prize Winners - Canada 10, USA 270

IMD World Competitivness Index. USA #1 in world, Canada #7

You see Ash, in order to do what we do in the world...that would be succeeding...it takes a physical toll. I'm sure if Canada had to protect us, develop most of the world's medicines, put themselves in harm's way like we do daily, your rates would be lower too.

There are trade offs for everything. Welcome to the REAL WORLD!

From ABC News (Reuters):

"... transferred its duties to broader operations that track Islamist militant groups ..."

"The bin Laden unit ... became less valuable as a separate operation as counterterrorism operations eliminated top al Qaeda operatives and the movement's focus shifted more to regional networks of militants ..."

"Al Qaeda is no longer the hierarchical organization that it was before 9-11. Three-quarters of its senior leaders have been killed or captured ..."

"... the ending of the bin Laden unit as a 'reallocation of resources' within the CIA's Counterterrorism Center ... the spy agency still has staff devoted full time to the tracking and analysis of intelligence related to bin Laden and other senior al Qaeda leaders."

"The bin Laden effort has been absorbed into a larger effort. It's now one part of an effort that looks at all of these jihadist organizations ..."

Now let's see...

North Korea is working feverishly to develop long rang missiles that could deliver their estimated 10 nuclear bombs to destroy American cities -- name the ten biggest targets!

Iran is working feverishly to develop it's own nuclear bombs! Could Iranian long range missiles be far behind? No need. Iran and North Korea work together and exchange (sell) weapons. North Korea can provide the missiles to Iran to deliver it's bombs to the U.S. also!

Liberal Democrats have been and are opposed to developing missile defense systems in an attempt to shoot down any nuclear missiles before they reach our cities! If it were up to the Democrats, we wouldn't have the ability to even try and save our cities!

Terrorist are trying to take over Iraq to serve as their new base of operations, funding, and training for attacks on the U.S. Liberal Democrats want to "cut and run" and leave Iraq to them!

Liberal Democrats condone and encourage the New York Times and traitors to release our defense secrets to the press, to the world, to our enemies, to the terrorists who have vowed to destroy us? How soon before liberal Democrats release our secrets regarding North Korea and Iran to the press and those enemies? How soon before liberal Democrats release more secrets to the terrorists about our programs to stop them from killing us?

Liberal Democrats are opposed to defense spending. They want and need more for welfare to buy their voters!

Liberal Democrats want talk... but are opposed to action.

Liberal Democrats will not support or conduct preemptive military actions to protect the United States. They would wait until our cities are destroyed -- to make absolutely sure of our enemies intentions --- and then talk to and reprimand our enemies!

Can American's REALLY AFFORD to trust their lives and the defense of America to a bunch of weak liberal Democrats?

Not on our lives, we can't! ...VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!

Next North Korea missile test scheduled for late October...

From the Associated Press...

"Defying stern warnings from Washington and Tokyo, North Korea launched a long-range missile Wednesday that may be capable of reaching America, two U.S. officials said. But they said the missile failed after 35 or 40 seconds."

"The North also fired two other missiles, the State Department said. Initial intelligence indicates that one was a Scud missile and the other a Rodong. The Scuds are short-range and could target South Korea. The Rodong has a range of about 620 miles and could target Japan."

"State Department officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the long-range missile was the Taepodong-2, North Korea's most advanced missile with a range of up to 9,320 miles. Experts believe a Taepodong-2 could reach the United States with a light payload."

"Can American's REALLY AFFORD to trust their lives and the defense of America to a bunch of weak liberal Democrats?"

Unless you have a personal nukular fallout shelter, you can't afford to keep these chickenhawks in power, 'cause all they know is waging tough-talk pre-emptive war against defanged alleycats. Whose fault is it that there is no intel coming from North Korea? Whose fault is it that there is no intel from Iran? Here's a hint: Valerie Plame worked for a company that monitored Iran's nuclear program. For some inexplicable reason, we NOW have no intel coming from Iran.

Sure, talk tough. "Axis of Evil" and "bring 'em on." But you better have a bunker, or you better vote these Ferengi OUT in November.

re: North Korea.

What does this mean for them now - are we definitely going to strike them? Mark, War, Freedom - what do you think?

congressive,

There's good reason Warriornation keeps using the words "idiot" or "moron" -- THEY FIT!

Let's see, didn't Clinton have something to do with North Korea developing nuclear weapons? Didn't North Korea "promise" Clinton -- a Rhodes Scholar -- they would only use their nuclear technology for "peaceful purposes"?

congressive, do you really believe that North Korea and Iran will stop their nuclear programs because we treat them nicely? Don't you recognize blackmail? Do you understand why we don't negotiate with blackmailers?

Valerie Plame... the hero of liberals. Valerie could have saved the world -- single handedly!

Sure, congressive... dream on!

NEVER... EVER... TRUST the DEFENSE, the SECURITY, or our nation's SECRETS to a bunch of wimpy liberal DimOcRATS!!!

Go watch some REAL westerns!

USA birth rate of 14.1 while Canada only 10.

This is not something to be proud of Warboy. Overpopulation is a huge problem in this world.

Ash,

Let's make EVERYONE happy! Encourage liberals to use more birth control.

Ash,

ROFL...man, you are sooo out of it...the problem we're going to have over the next century is the rapid de-population of the world...all that idiotic alarmism about population in the 20th century has had its baleful affects...birth rates are dropping to nearly below replacement rate, and in places like China and India the various "one child" policies are resulting in a massive imbalance between the numbers of boys and girls (in order to have the child they want, couples tend to abort female babies - its a cultural thing horribly twisted by modern leftist thinking).
