THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated. - Thomas Paine, December 23, 1776

I'm still curious, what do those with a seething hatred of our country like Blarney and Third Eye Open do on the fourth of July?

I don't really care what they do, I look to what the brave men and women who are defending our country, and what they do not get to do. Many do not get to be with loved ones, because they are doing service for us all. God bless and keep them this weekend, and always.

I think I will take time to thank my creator that I was born in the United States. I will reflect on those who were not as fortunate. Those in Darfur, Bangladesh, Haiti (for example) I will pray to my creator that I can do something today to make this a better world for those people. I will pray for peace on earth. For tolerance. For justice. For compassion.
I will remember that coming out of the womb in the United States makes me morally responsible to help those less fortunate.
God blesses the world.

At the risk of sounding like a dittohead, when I simply live in an area where few radio stations come in and I am at the mercy of a strong signal, I have to suggest looking up Rush's routine on the burnable American flag. It is made of hemp, of course, and is put out by DemCo. It was a really funny piece, for a change.

Ash.
You are right. And what are you and your friends at the U.N. doing for those Nations in need? What are you doing besides being here complaining day after day?
You cannot find the path if you fail to light your lantern.

I recently donated a lot of my old clothes to a shelter for teenage runaways.
I have donated money directed to Haiti.
I brought it up here. I hope to keep it in the public eye. Discussion is important.
However:
I can't believe someone would ridicule my
statements.
God blesses the world.

Oops forgot-
I just bought $300 worth of fair trade coffee. It benefits coffee growers that have organized into coops. It effectively cuts out Mr. Maxwell House and Mr. Folgers.
I urge everyone to visit the site copied below and buy some fair trade coffee from developing countries.
