Darn Matt, We can't even share views on sports. I think the World Cup is great drama. I mean Germany playing Poland. Are you kidding me? And Poland has never beaten Germany. There is great contrast of styles. When the anal, precise Germans play the flamboyent, creative Brazilians, something has to give.
Okay maybe this will grab your interest. I try to live with the attitude of Brazilians, therefore I want them to win. Any German backers out there want to make a friendly wager?
Here it goes: If Germany wins I will post I (heart) Bush 10 times in one post. If Brazil wins the payoff is posting Liberals Rule!
Any takers?

been watching about 80 percent of the games. even if you are not a fan of football (soccer), the action is really exciting. guess i'd have to be rooting for brazil.

I enjoyed football when Iwas stationed in England, but I could care less about the World Cup.
One hint: The hemisphere where the Cup is hosted usually produces the winner...

I've been following the world cup closely. I love the sport and the drama of the world wide focus. Brazil is one of my favorite teams, but, like Keefer says, I don't think they will win this time. Germany may very well take it. Not only are they playing strong, but they have that huge home-court advantage.
No matter who wins, I'll be saying that Conservatives Rule!

what the h*ll is the "world cup?" Does it have something to do with all the riots in Germany?

I played soccer all through college and even I can't sit through watching a whole game on television. Highlights are cool, and I especially like the camer shots of some of the Brazilian fans. Wow they have to have the hottest women on earth.

You surprise me. A mistake in grammar? Being part of the language police, you must know it's not "I could care less" but "I couldn't care less". Shame, shame. Should we take away your license now?

LOL!
:)
I played soccer for 3 years when I was a kid, but no, the only World Cup action I follow are the accompanying riots.

I have spent a lot of time in Colombia and Latin America...and I can tell you they eat, sleep, and drink only three things: 1) Catholicism, 2)latin dancing, and 3)SOCCER
It is a great sport. Brazil is tough, but I think Germany is going to take it.

This World Cup is a good one. I'm taking Brazil to win although Germany is looking good and has an advantage playing at home. I wouldn't count out Italy either.Yes Al, it is exciting.

You'd rather watch cars going around in circle a couple hundred times then soccer?
Posted by: morphie at June 28, 2006 04:48 PM
I've been following it pretty closely. Soccer's a good game, cut 'em some slack!
Posted by: Bret Helm at June 28, 2006 04:58 PM
I used to enjoy playing soccer in HS and college, but a shattered ankle and a clean break through both bones of the lower leg cured that enjoyment.
Soccer can be fun, when it is a bunch of kids running around, kicking the ball, and scoring. Not like the pro's play it now.

I have to say that I have been following it, although this is primarily b/c I lived in Germany when they won the European Championship in '96 and got the bug.
One interesting factoid... my DirecTV has ability to tell me what's the currently most-watched sports program in my region and/or nationwide and, surprisingly, World Cup Soccer is always # 1 regardless of whether the US was playing or not. In addition, it was often the most-watched program (from all categories)...
Perhaps people are watching, but are afraid to admit it to pollsters?

I was recently in Atlanta at the annual National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) meeting, and one of the exhibitor's booths (Gatorade) was playing the soccer games on their plasma screens. That was the best-attended booth in the entire hall. Then again, no booth was playing As The World Turns, or NASCAR, or anything else for that matter. So I guess it's hard to tell how interested even athletic trainers are in soccer.
That was the first time I attended that meeting (and it was probably the last), but I got the impression that all you had to do to divert their attention was show them something shiny.
The other lasting impression I came away with is... in many cases it was very hard to tell which ones were women if you didn't check their name tag. Not that there's anything wrong with that, lol!

Not the biggest Soccer fan out there by far. I follow Soccer like I follow Hockey. Which is occasionally.
I see why people like it but I won't go out of my way to watch a game or follow stats. I prefer American Football and World Ralley Championship more. :)

Who would think that a zero all football match could be one of the most exciting sporting events I've ever seen: Trinidad-Tobago vs Sweden? And I would never have guessed I would see a player from Ghana, ecstatic with victory, pull out the flag of Israel from his sock and wave it in front of the field camera in solidarity with Israel and anti-Iran demonstrators. And it happened in Germany this year at the World Cup. Here in free TV-Land where I have no cable (and am hoping they'll approve the new Nascar track to help our local economy) I watch as much World Cup action as ABC will eke out to us. (I admit I even follow important games on the FIFA live Matchcast which is a minute by minute feed that you have to --gasp-- actually read. (And I'm an American girl)! Should I be ashamed???
