Bush Jogs With Wounded Soldier

Only a Bush hater with no heart couldn't be moved by this story.

President Bush took a jog Tuesday with a soldier who lost part of both legs in Iraq, following through on a bedside promise even the president had doubts about at the time.

Despite a slight drizzle, Bush and Staff Sgt. Christian Bagge took a slow jog around a spongy track that circles the White House's South Lawn. About halfway through their approximately half-mile run, Bush and Bagge paused briefly for reporters.

"He ran the president into the ground, I might add," Bush said, as the two gripped hands in an emotional, lengthy shake. "But I'm proud of you. I'm proud of your strength, proud of your character."

The president met the soldier on a New Year's Day visit to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, where Bagge had been recuperating from his injuries for months. Bagge, now 23 and a native of Eugene, Ore., was in a convoy hit by roadside bombs a year ago in the remote Iraq desert south of Kirkuk.

Bagge's left leg was amputated just above the ankle, and his right leg ends just above the knee.

"Only a Bush hater with no heart couldn't be moved by this story."

Yet there are plenty of them around. Just look at the majority of commentors over at Daily Kos & Huffington Post as well as some of the sufferers of "Bush Derangement Syndrome" who leave comments on Blogs for Bush.

Bush couldn't remember where he met this courageous soldier. I believe he said he visited him at Walter Reed and was corrected by Mr. Bagge that it was in fact Brooke Army Medical Center.

Don't you think if you are going to have a photo-op with a man who gave his two legs in support of his country, you should try at least to get the story straight.

I know, I know, Bush is a busy fellow and it's hard work being President.

Leave it to a neorad to add a negative twist to a good news story.

Canadian Observer - and you just couldn't help yourself, could you, Bush hater.

i'm touched by the strong character of the soldier who has made every determination to continue to live his life in a manner pyshically unimpeded even after suffering the trauma of losing a limb.

bush was probably thankful it was not his daughter who now has to contend with living with an artificial limb as a result of decisions he personally made.

Thanks for proving Matt's initial statement ... CO and bloviator have NO HEART.

That certainly didn't take long....

God bless Bush, God Bless our soldiers, God bless America!

Kim

My heart goes out the the boy who now is maimed & disabled - not to the idiot he ran with.

Posted by: Canadian Observer [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 28, 2006 10:50 AM

I too sympathize with the poor boy who will spend the rest of his life with a disability.

Makes a better photo-op than posing with a grieving wife, mother, husband, child who has lost a loved one in this ugly, shameful act of aggression.

"Only a Bush hater with no heart couldn't be moved by this story."

And several comments above proved my point beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Posted by: Carl at June 28, 2006 12:11 PM

This president has no shame!
I think Bush should do a weekly photo op with dismembereed veterans, and not just those picked by Tony Snow.

Posted by: Salvelinus [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 28, 2006 12:29 PM

and finally, god bless Ames Tiedeman for his blind devotion to his emperor (or is that you karl rove?)

Salvelinus:

I wonder what limb(s) one would have to lose to get to play a round of golf with da Man?

Thank God Almighty for President George W. Bush, for if it had not been Gods will that George be sent then most likely there would have been a lot of blood shed in America because of terrorism, so I thank God for George Bush.

May God also bless that young soldier who had the guts enough to go and fight for this fine land of people known for our hospitality and the spread of freedom everywhere in the world...I tell you we are the finest people in the WORLD!

So... I don't care what anyone andy liberal says about George he's been the finest president in many years I mean EVER in my book!

Hopefully America will wake up and be more like him and start serving the Lord!!

If it weren't for Bush, that guy would still have his legs intact.

You're right, Sal - Bush has no shame, and no humility whatsoever.

Posted by: maf53 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 28, 2006 03:39 PM

maf53,

So you're saying that George Bush was the terrorist who planted the IED that caused the soldier's injuries?

To the rest of you anti-military, anti-America, liberals: Did you notice what the soldier was wearing? An Army PT shirt. He's still a soldier, even with his injuries. And you can bet he still supports the mission, despite his injuries.

Posted by: A-10 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 28, 2006 03:52 PM

That was so cool! President Bush is a class act who sincerely cares about the US soldiers under his command.
:)

I also noticed that Staff Sgt. Christian Bagge is actually taller than President Bush. My heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery go out to Staff Sgt. Bagge as well as my deepest admiration for this brave man. God bless you, Staff Sgt. Christian Bagge!

If you knew the whole story, the soldier asked to jog with the Pres. He admitted that the prospect of running alongside the Comm. in Chief acted as a primary motivator during his rigorous rehab. The Pres. was simply keeping an agreement with the soldier. If you saw the video, it was inspirational and endearing.

Posted by: Jules at June 28, 2006 04:53 PM

It seems these liberals that are bashing Bush forgot the key point of the story.

This soldier believes in the effort and supports Bush and the cause.

Oh those pesky facts. Sometimes people sacrifice for what is right and that means pain and suffering. Something a liberal would never understand.

If it wasn't for Bush he would still have his legs....WOW.

OK...if it wasn't for Clinton and he had taken out Bin Laden when he was offered to us on a silver platter 3 times, then 3000 lives wouldn't have been lost. We would not be having the war on terror and Iraq most likely would not be attacked.

This is a fun game...let's play it some more. What IDIOTS the left are...absolute IDIOTS.

Posted by: Warriornation [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 28, 2006 08:30 PM

Lets see here! The President goes running with a young man that he, the President, ordered to war. The President see’s and hears first hand what his decision to go to Iraq has cost an individual he didn’t even know. Did you mention that the President even visited with this troop in the Oval Office as this troop changed in to his running legs? That the President saw first hand the cost of his decision to an individual and let all of us see it?
What am I missing in the fact that this takes a true man, a leader, to face a person you know that you put in harms way?
President Bush, by the way, does meet with the families of those lost due to the war. They have an open door policy for the White House (the families) or Bush will ask to meet with them when he is in their State on an official or fund raising stump.
This President does face those he Commands
