It is possible that Dean is trying to build up enough of a base in red states to swing an election in '08---but UTAH? It might make sense in a state that has some potential for moving to the Left: New Mexico and Colorado have both become more Left as their populations have been influenced by immigration from Liberal strongholds, and they might justify a push by Dean to improve the Dem position there. But UTAH?
That would be like dumping millions and millions of Republican dollars into trying to convert San Francisco into a conservative bastion.
It is also possible that Dean is aware of the damage being done to the party by the neorads, and is working to head off a mass exodus of Dems fleeing from the radical and loony-left mess the Party is becoming.
If their strategy is to depend on the popular-vote-should-win theory they floated in '00 (before Bush took it in '04 and took the fun out of that approach) then it might make sense to try to scrounge votes even in places where they can't possibly affect the Electoral College. Maybe we should watch for a Dem move to amend the constitution to get rid of the Electoral College, between '06 and '08.

Might be a double post ...

'Cause he thinks he can scream loud enough that all 50 states can hear him?

(C'mon, you know someone had to say it.)

Dean pushing Gore for President? Tennesse still won't vote for their native son, and they know him best. I trust their judgement.

Why they put him in the top position at the DNC really befuddles me. Maybe they did it to get him out of the picture; i.e., if he's head of the DNC, he can't run for office...

As long as Lieberman and Santorum lose, Dean's policy will look like genius. Peace

keefer, reading the loony left posts here may have gotten me conspiracy-minded, but......
What if THEY (every conspiracy theory has to have a THEY) put Dean in charge of the DNC to see how receptive the party in general would be to a neorad in a leadership position? And/or to start the official movement to the Far Left, which has unofficially been going on for quite a while now, though the party itself has been trying to maintain its dignity by pretending to be the Dems of old.
If he was a stalking horse for the radical element of the party, surely they have seen what a failure it has been. But we've misoverestimated them before.......
