No Immigration Bill This Year

The Associated Press, in reporting that no immigration bill appears likely to happen this year, describes the news as a defeat for President Bush. While in some ways it may have been, the delay does prevent his rather unpopular guest worker program from getting voted on just yet. So, as long as the Republicans start working on securing the borders, in the long run, this will benefit the Republicans with victory in November, and benefit Bush.

Matt

Please explain to President Bush how not getting an immigration bill this benefits him. Regarding illegal immigration, this president seems to be clueless. In the past, blogs for Bush seems to have expressed less than enthusiastic support for Bush's guest worker program. When your number one fans are not enthusiasticly behind what you are doing, politically at least it is probably time to change course. The thing I have noticed about this President is he seems to do what he thinks is right regardless what polls might say on a given issue. The trouble with his immigration plan is it seems to me to be just plain wrong.

This is good news in one respect. Hopefully it will cause the American public to throw the RINOs out of office and the Dems as well.

85% of the public wasnt immigration reform but the Senate version the RINOS and Dems came up with was a complete joke.

CONTAIN THE BORDERS FIRST!!! Then deal with the 12,000,000

exactly.. if we forget about this guest worker program and focus on securing the borders, the GOP and Bush will do much better...

No bill is more preferable to a bad bill.

Posted by: Art Patscheck [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 21, 2006 05:27 PM

So I guess the House Republicans grabbed all their marbles and walked away in a huff. So no 375 fence, no identity card, no dealing with the 12 million illegals already here, because you know, dry up the benefits and all 12 million will pack up their bags and their kids and walk back to mexico. There is so much waiting for them there.

"No bill is more preferable to a bad bill."

Hear hear! Let's get them to fix the problem not make it worse.

Secure the border and enforce the present immigration law inside and the illegal immigrants will go home eventually because there will be no one to hire them.

Bart said: "...enforce the present immigration law inside and the illegal immigrants will go home eventually because there will be no one to hire them."

Don't hold your breath. I am very interested to see where this border build-up leads us. Maybe it will help, but I doubt it. I mean it would be nice, but I sincerely doubt it. To paraphrase a certain Kevin Costner flick, "if you hire them they will come." That's the bottom line to me.

Heck, Costner had people coming back from the dead, for crying out loud. We're just talking crossing the border. Big difference. At least I assume so, lol! And as far as no one hiring them, take a really big gulp of air before you don't breathe anymore. Cuz that ain't gonna happen unless the powers that be get serious about holding employers accountable. And that ain't gonna happen.

And as far as the news that there will be no immigration bill this year goes, gosh, you could have knocked me over with a feather. Who'd a' guessed, huh? Hehe.

But who knows? Politically, it may have worked out better than I expected. Then again, we still have 5 months to go before the elections. For example, depending upon the reaction happening in the (legal) Hispanic community, I would guess that CA-50 could swing maybe 5 points. I doubt it, but it's possible. I'm not Hispanic (despite what may be implied by my nickname -- I'm a WASP, with a considerable amount of Canuck thrown in) but my fiancee is. And from her family and friends I get the impression that the Hispanic community is getting highly mobilized for this election cycle. She has a number of relatives (again, all legal) that never voted before, ever. But they are determined to do so this time around. I'm guessing that unless you don't have connections to the Hispanic community, you don't really appreciate that a lot of them kind of accepted that there's a broad gray area between whether they are actually legal or illegal. Now they're finding out. And I suspect that those that are now sure that they are legal will go to the polls in larger proportions than ever before. Prior to May my fiancee was solidly in the Repub camp, as were many in her extended family. But now she -- and they -- are royally pissed. I don't know how typical they are, but I'm guessing they're fairly so.

So I guess we'll see.

Dear ricorun,

The interior enforcement of existing laws would penalize employers who hire illegals. So the phrase should be, "if you hire them they will come." with the 'they' being immigration enforcement coming to arrest the employer.

ricorun continues ...
"And as far as no one hiring them, take a really big gulp of air before you don't breathe anymore. Cuz that ain't gonna happen unless the powers that be get serious about holding employers accountable. And that ain't gonna happen. "

Well, we know who the 'powers that be are' don't we. It is G. W. Bush, the second president in a row that has been a traitor to our nation. He and his neocon business friends are working to turn the U.S.A. into a 'trading region' ala NAFTA. He is not conservative, he is not liberal, he is not spiritual, he is a psycho-egomaniac alchoholic spoiled rich kid who doesn't give a crap about the U.S.A. or any of us. Gotta face these facts.

In a democracy WE are the powers that be, if we so desire. If we can get smart enough to not respond in a knee-jerk way to abortion noise, racial noise, and religious noise, and if we can see beyond the dualopoly of Republicans-Democrats and instead focus on the constitution then we can regain our country. As long as we kiss up to either of the political parties then we might as well kiss our ass good-bye.

finally ricorun goes on ...
"I'm a WASP, with a considerable amount of Canuck thrown in) but my fiancee is. And from her family and friends I get the impression that the Hispanic community is getting highly mobilized for this election cycle."

Surprise, I am a WASP also, both sides of my family has been here since the 1630's. I don't have a hispanic fiancee, nope, I married to a first generation U.S. Mexican hispanic, and my legal immigrant mother-in-law lives with us. My hispanic wife is getting mobilized for the election also. For instance, she visited Senator Schumer's office, Senator Clinton's office, and Congressman James Walsh's office to let them know tht she does not want the illegals in this country, she wants the border secure, and she wants employers penalized.

Maybe it was having to do it the legal way and then seeing illegals abuse the system because greedy employers wish to insource labor when they can't outsource the factory or jobsite, that makes my wife feel so strongly.

Or maybe it is because she is a spanish speaking probation officer who works with hispanic criminals and is sick and tired of hispanic criminals.

Maybe it is because when she has to tell someone about their probation rules in spanish and they reply in spanish that "why bother me sister we are all in this against the gringo .." that she gets fed up.

Maybe it is when our young son has to compete will illegal aliens for low skilled or entry level work that she gets pissed off.

Maybe it doesn't matter. It is just good to know that there are some citizens of hispanic origin who care about the sovereignty of the U.S.A. and knows that enforcement WILL work.

I agree with ricorun on one thing -
"I guess we'll see ..."
