Another Bush Victory: House Rejects Cutting and Running

By 256-153...

The House on Friday handily rejected a timetable for pulling U.S. forces out of Iraq, culminating a fiercely partisan debate between Republicans and Democrats feeling the public's apprehension about war and the onrushing midterm campaign season.

In a 256-153 vote that mirrored the position taken by the Senate earlier, the GOP-led House approved a nonbinding resolution that praises U.S. troops, labels the Iraq war part of the larger global fight against terrorism and says an "arbitrary date for the withdrawal or redeployment" of troops is not in the national interest.

"Retreat is not an option in Iraq," declared House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio. "Achieving victory is our only option ... We have no choice but to confront these terrorists, win the war on terror and spread freedom and democracy around the world."

UPDATE: Flip has more.

Here, here, now get the bed wetters out of here and let's git to work!

By the way ... we need to stop this somewhat soft and generic "war on terror" label and call this war what it is. A war against Islamic extremism. Defining the enemy as "terrorism" is only half right. The full description of the enemy is "Islamic terrorism." Enough of protecting the violent religion of Islam behind the cloak of political correctness.

I'm tired of this PC S*#t Myself! Call a spade a spade, Jesus!

I'm glad to see the House Republicans are giving Democrats a chance to vote for what they want -- to cut and run from terrorists and an American defeat as they would like -- a chance to vote their convictions.

Let's hope the House Republicans give them even more opportunities before the November elections to vote for what they speak!

I don't know how some people equate a time table
to a so called cut and run. How long do we stay
the course? 3, 5, 10, 15 years? How long can we
sustain 1 billion per week bill going towards this
war? I work at a hospital in NYC doing brain reasearch and we are paid directly through U.S. government grants.
They have cut the amount of the total awarded grant money by 2/3 which I am sure is being shuffled over to Iraq.
So as a result I and many people I work with are losing their Jobs at the end of this month. So
I am pointing out that the money being obtained
for this war is not only going against our
national debt, but there are also invaluable programs being cut right now.

I'm assuming you have no family over there getting killed.

YES! Looks like House Republicans did learn the lessons of history! On to VICTORY in Iraq! Freedom and democracy for the Iraqis, utter defeat for the terrorists! OOH-RAH!
:)

Great point, AAR. Get these Demoncrats on record.

Ticketplease,

So was the IRA bombings, Christian-Terrorism, or Catholic-Terrorism, Protestant-Terrorism, or were they just good ole fashioned freedom-fighters?

Fine lest set a time table. Six years. Etch it in stone. That make you libs happy?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A narrow majority of Americans -- 53 percent -- favors setting a timetable for U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq, with 47 percent saying the deadline should be in a year or less, according to a CNN poll released Friday.

America is backing the Dems!

Posted by: Barneyg2000 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 16, 2006 05:47 PM

Damn good thing the dims aren't in control, and we don't make military decisions based on popularity polls.

Posted by: Bane of Liberals' Existence [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 16, 2006 05:59 PM

Bane

Forget the popularity polls. If the Iraqi government asks you to leave, will you go peacefully?

42 Democrat defections....that's going to leave a mark.

A CNN poll of "adults", not registered votes, not even likely voters.

No wonder these idiots do summersaults when they lose Congressional races by 5 points and cheer wildly to say "we almost won again."

Keep it up guys, it's breathtakingly funny.

Posted by: Warriornation [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 16, 2006 07:54 PM

CO,
Is this a trick question?
Wait ... what was that middle part again?

Of course I would approve the Coalition forces leaving Iraq.

Posted by: Bane of Liberals' Existence [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 16, 2006 07:55 PM

Speaking of polls, here is what other pollsters have found on this issue.

CBS
"Should the United States troops stay in Iraq as long as it takes to make sure Iraq is a stable democracy, even if it takes a long time, or should U.S. troops leave Iraq as soon as possible, even if Iraq is not completely stable?"
Prior to 6/04: "Should the United States troops stay in Iraq as long as it takes to make sure Iraq is a stable democracy, even if that takes a long time, or should U.S. troops turn over control to Iraqis as soon as possible, even if Iraq is not completely stable?"

June 10th and llth

48% Stay as long as it takes
46% Leave ASAP
America must be supporting the President I guess

By the way, the CNN poll was of 1031 Adults and weighted by 9 extra points with Democrats. I guess Blarney forgot to provide those little "tidbits".

AH, yes Jeff. Freedom, Justice, keeping Al Quaeda from taking over Iraq, keeping our promises to the IRaqi government. . all of these things pale in comparison to a reduction in some of your precious non - functional social programs.

Glad you have your priorities straight.

Mike,

As a matter of fact - I have a neice and a nephew there right now (brother and sister). He's regular Army and she's Air Force Reserve. Their mother (my sister-in-law) may go over in the fall. She's Navy.

That's it for now. Most of my closest neighbors are home again - for now. EVERY SINGLE PERSON I KNOW PERSONALLY HAS VOLUNTEERED TO GO BACK.

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 16, 2006 08:51 PM

Warriornation,
Have you ever seen a CNN poll that wasn't biased? Bush again comes out on top. Whatever happened to the culture of corruption agenda, lame duck President? Karl Rove going to jail, DeLay to jail, "outing" V. Plame?

All Dim BS, and The party of BS will suffer in November! However as I have stated, MSM keep on giving these guys prime time. Keep digging your own grave, I certainly would not dig for you.

Go MSM. Libs, keep posting nonsense here. Keep reminding Rove and the rest of us why it is important to keep you nitwits pinned.

Mike,

I have two nephews there right now -- both Marines.

One is there for his second tour. He volunteered to go again to be with his brother.

One of them blows up those IEDs (car bombs, etc.) that are killing our troops and Iraqi citizens.

Yes, their mother worries that one or both of them may be killed or injured there, but they are there doing their duty and fighting to stop the terrorists... while liberal Democrats here encourage those same terrorists to kill our troops and Iraqi citizens!

Guess which way their mother will vote -- Republican!!!
