The End Of An Era...

As I'm sure you all know now, Friday was Rep. Tom DeLay's last day in the House of Representatives. I have posted my thoughts on his departure over at GOP Bloggers... DeLay's departure should be a warning to us all at just how low Democrats will go to get back into power... And we all should be concerned about what would happen if they did become the majority party again.

Now Tom can go back and do what his does best, pulling legs off cockroaches (in his prison cell).

At least the Democrats are calling for Jefferson to step down -- and when he does, I doubt that they'll be attending his "farewell address" or posting their fond memories of him.

Posted by: Salvelinus [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2006 05:26 PM

As Teenage Illiterate clearly demonstrates, there is no low that is too low for a liberal Democrat.

The Dims used every dirty trick, every lie, every possible sleaze to get a good, moral and wholesome man to step out of public service.

If the commies would accord Mr. Delay just a modicum of the respect he showed Bill Clinton during his impeachment, I would be astonished. They couldn't possibly return to Delay the same treatment he showed their hero, Billy.

Pathetic.

Yea, cause no one ever took cheap shots at Clinton or Gore or Kerry right?

Pathetic.

Do ya'll remember when the gunman came after old Tommy in the 90's and tried to kill him in his office at the Capital? All violence is counter-productive. Peace

Posted by: steve at June 12, 2006 07:00 PM

a good, moral and wholesome man to step out of public service.

Would that be the same Tom Delay that was indicted in 2005 on criminal charges of conspiracy to violate election laws in 2002? The same Delay that was pressured by fellow Republicans to step down?

Wholesome, my petuney.

Posted by: Ash [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2006 07:31 PM

At least the Democrats are calling for Jefferson to step down

Saliva, if you weren't such a dumbass, I wouldn't be compelled to correct you. But you are a dumbass, so here goes:

Jefferson was asked, by Nancy Piglosi, to step down as second-ranking DemocRAT on the House Ways and Means Committee. He was not asked to step down from his congressional seat.

Delay, on the other hand, had to vacate his position as Majority Leader because he was indicted for a crime, and because the GOP agreed to a rule that only applies to them.

For the rest of you morons who don't know the difference between an indictment and a criminal conviction, Delay resigned, voluntarily, from Congress. Had he not resigned, there would have been a lot of attention and money directed at his seat. He chose the party over himself. And oh, by the way, the charges he faces? Well, he was indicted, in 2005, for something he allegedly did in 2002. The only problem Ronnie Earle faces is the fact that the alleged crime wasn't a crime in 2002!

CTTC, did you hear Delay's farewell address to Congress? He pulled no punches, and it's reported that a bunch of Dems walked out during the address. Wah!!!

Posted by: keefer [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2006 07:59 PM

Wholesome, my petuney.

Petuney? Petuney? Ash, you are the oldest moron in the world. You're actually 50? Where are you from, back in the hollers?

WTF is a petuney? Is it anything like a patootie? Ash-hole, you slay me! God love ya, brother...

Posted by: keefer [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2006 08:21 PM

Tanks keebler. I made it up (petuney). But it fit somehow, and brought a laugh to the world. Yes, I'm 50 plus. My wife worries that I will develope alzheimers disease and no one will know. Well if you can't laugh at yourself, you can't laugh at anyone else!

"Would that be the same Tom Delay that was indicted in 2005 on criminal charges of conspiracy to violate election laws in 2002? The same Delay that was pressured by fellow Republicans to step down?"

That would be the same Tom DeLay who had to undergo 3 (THREE) grand juries to get an indictment, after the first two found no indictable offense. That would be the same Tom DeLay who was finally indicted in a rush grand jury presentation, pressured by the fact that they only had a day to make a decision, for doing something that was not a crime when it was alleged he did it. That would be the same Tom DeLay who has been trying to get this to trial so the real facts can be made public, stopped at every turn by Ronnie Earle, who has accomplished his goal of indicting DeLay and now has to keep the case out of the court system. That would be the same Tom DeLay who was indicted by a known political adversary who stated to his Dem chums in a public gathering that his goal was to bring down DeLay. That would be the same Tom DeLay who was the first victim of the Schumer Offensive, in shich Schumer stated that they never had to actually PROVE anything, they just had to get an indictment. That would be the same Tom DeLay who volunteered to step down, in compliance with the same Republican rules that inspired Ronnie to go after him in the first place.

And that would be the same Ash who clearly does not understand that the grand jury is not a finder of fact, but merely hears one side (the prosecution's) to determine if the prosecution appears to have enough evidence to justify going to trial.

In other words, the exact audience Earle has been playing to since Day 1. Too bad for Earle he got stuck with two (TWO!!) grand juries who could see through his lies and posturing before he got lucky with the third. (And members of the first two said Earle tried to intimidate them into indicting, and then attacked them for refusing to.)

Dreaded error message again....sorry

Ash says:
"My wife worries that I will develope alzheimers disease and no one will know."

I'd say that ship has sailed.....a typical occurrance among lefties.

Posted by: Almiranta [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2006 09:23 PM

I've never been a fan of Delay but to let three amigos of insanity run amok I just couldn't do..

One fact saliva you conveniently forgot is Jefferson was video taped accepting bribes from the FBI..and the money was later recovered from his freezer...

In contrast to what has been pointed out wasn't a crime until after it had already occurred and what makes this indictment of Delay even more egregious... the same election cycle Democrats in Texas did exactly the same as did the Republicans.

Posted by: theblksheepwasright [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2006 09:57 PM

Sad thing is, the kossacks posting on this thread would prefer those 500lb. bombs be dropped on Delay head than on Zarqawi's! So did you kossacks help in voting in "sheik I'm gonna be dead soon" over there in Iraq, or were your hanging chads an issue? No I'm not joking, altho it is funny as hell!!!

The Wall Street Journal summed up the DeLay issue pretty well, I think. It's not just one single thing. "The problem, rather, is that Mr. DeLay, who rode to power in 1994 on a wave of revulsion at the everyday ways of big government, has become the living exemplar of some of its worst habits."

I think it was kind of ironic that in the last line at top of this topic Matt pointed out, "And we all should be concerned about what will happen if they did become the majority party again." What do you mean what WILL happen? It's already happening. In spades. And DeLay was one of the worst offenders. It wasn't supposed to be that way. And I feel awfully let down. 1994 seems like an awfully long time ago. And yes, we all should be concerned about that.

Posted by: Ricorun [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2006 10:24 PM

Well Alms it did not escape my attention that you decided to ignore the fact that it was the Republicans who insisted he resign.

As far as my ship sailing, well just loosen the anal guard a tad Alms. You might just enjoy life a tad more.

Posted by: Ash [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2006 10:37 PM

BTW, I didn't say he wasn't slick and slimy.

That would be the same Tom DeLay who had to undergo 3 (THREE) grand juries to get an indictment,

The man is the poster child for all that is wrong with the culture of corruption that runs rampant among the 'phants.

Posted by: Ash [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2006 10:40 PM

Pleaseeeee. Delay is as crooked as a dog's hind leg, he was into Abramoff up to his neck.

There is no liberal conspiracy, just another dirty Republican headed for prison. The GOP

knows he is dirty, why do you think they wanted to pass sweeping ethics reforms that would

have banned such things as Tom's K-Street project

Tom is a former exterminator that became a politician because he wanted to change the laws

to allow exterminators to use banned cancer causing pesticides because they are cheaper and

work better.

Good riddance to bad rubbish

Actually, for those of you who pay attention -- I know that's hard for some of the intellectually challenged at this site -- DNC chair Howard Dean called for Jefferson to resigen from Congress, "if indicted." That was weeks before the FBI video was released (leaked) to the press.
The bottom line is that the Democratic leadership has considerably less tolerance for the "culture of corruption" than their counterparts across the aisle do -- just look at the kind of support you folks still throw to DeLay (and Ney). It's just amazing -- the lengths that Republicans will go to in order to prop up their criminal brethren.
As one pundit noted -- the "Democrats shoot their wounded."

Posted by: Salvelinus [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 13, 2006 12:17 PM

I'm not a Republican and never have been a big DeLay fan.

Personally, if I were the Republicans I would just run advertisements showing the rantings of DailyKos, DUmmies, the whacks on here and pictures of Nancy Pelosi with the words..."Do you want her 2 heart beats from the Presidency".

Seriously, if the GOP can't win on that message alone then this country has much to fear.

Posted by: Warriornation [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 13, 2006 12:34 PM

just look at the kind of support you folks still throw to DeLay (and Ney). It's just amazing -

-- Thats only because he invokes Jesus anytime he is talking about his corruption woes. Thats also why they support Enron's Ken Lay, convicted dozens of times, but they still support him because he invokes Jesus any chance he gets.

To the religious right, the more crooked and corrupt you are, the more they like you because they can relate to it.
