If he was awake.
I was the first person on the scene after a train hit a pick-up truck about 15 years ago. OK - the driver was alive. But I could see his brains. He "lived" about 3 minutes.
I would have preferred to have the door kicked open and had him eat a shotgun blast. But I hear he was surrounded by bodyguards with suicide bomb belts.

But, but, but, but, but how is this possible. Democrats and the crazy lunatics on the liberal blogs said he didn't even die so how could he even have a few last seconds. / sarcasm off

The agony he is experiencing right now far out strips what he experienced in the last few minutes. The agony he is in now is eternal. In this life he was the closest to heaven he ever got and he squandered the opportunity hating his fellow man.

Some people have tried to tell me that celebrating the death of a monster like Zarqawi, or wishing for it, lowers me to his moral level.
I wish I could find some way to make them understand, lowering me to his moral level would require me to equal his sins, both in severity and in frequency. And since I don't remember embarking on a career as a psychopathic mass murderer recently, well...

It's true that, like all Muslim martyrs, Zarqawi is alloted 40 virgins in the afterlife. But you don't have to be a demographic genius to know that there aren't enough hot young virgins dying to fill the quota. My guess is at least a couple dozen of them, if not more, are moustachioed spinster aunts.

Zar-kow-dork is most likely getting passed around from demon to demon like a 19 year old in a supermax right now. Now pardon me while I go draw some rude cartoons of Mohammed.

I'm sooooo glad his last sight and thought was of an American soldier leaning over him with the intent of administering medical aid if able too! The difference between our boyz and them is a vast sea of vileness!!!

I hope he cried, and begged for his life!! I hope he suffered a great deal of pain. I am so glad that the last thing he saw was a special forces soldier leaning over his dying body! Have fun in hell you freak!

I got a chuckle out of the press release from al Queda in Iraq which announced:
"the JOYOUS news of the martyrdom of Musab Al Zarqauwi"
This news was also considered JOYOUS in many other circles as well, but not fo the same reason.
BTW:
Zarquawi thought he was going to get 72 virgins, but turns out is was a 72 year old virgin. Damn that fine print.

I doubt any of us experienced pleasure in the death of Zarqawi, for that would truely make us monsters. I believe that what we feel is the satisfation of well-overdue justice finally served, and the tinge of exhiliration at the irony that must have accompanied his final moments.
Did he live long enough to see a combined force of US an Iraqi commandos hover over him, checking his identity, ministering to his mortal wounds? How such cooperation between Iraqis and minions of the Great Satan must dashed all his gradiose dreams of turning the Arab world into a swarming sea of jihadis.
Or, after performing heinous acts like beheading innocent civilians and obviously enjoying it as he posed on camera with his bloody prize held high, did Zarqawi cringe and beg for his life like a coward as he anticipated a 9-mm coup de grāce?
One can only wonder, but the irony is indeed sweet.
As for his eternal fate, I think a few lines from John Valby's "Taliban Blues" sum it all up:
And when he dies,
He might see God, that's true,
But he's gonna find out
That God's a Jew!
Zarqawi's rejection of civilization to embrace radical Islamofascism make his passing more the pity. One can only hope that the Iraqi insurgents will see the futility of their armed conflict, put down their weapons and rejoin their brothers in rebuilding Iraqi rather than tearing it down one murder at a time.

It wasn't 72 virgins; it wans't a 72-year-old virgin. It was 72 Virginians, starting with George Washinton, who kicked his ass and passed him along to Thomas Jefferson...
Posted by: keefer at June 9, 2006 08:39 PM
Actually, you guys are right that it wasn't 72 virgins. Scholars have recently speculated that in fact it was a mistranslation of the word for "white raisins." It's right in there with the passage about rivers of milk and honey, and they think it was meant to go along with that. They were some sort of delicacy, I guess.
Imagine, though, the disappointment!

I consider myself a libertarian, so I am against this war.
I guess that makes me a liberal. If so, I'll embrace the dyslogism.
But I want to correct the misperception that we all WANT the mission in Iraq to fail. That is false.
I am glad the bastard is dead and I hope we succeed in Iraq. I hope we continue to hear good news out of Iraq.

Oddly enough, right as I heard that Zarqawi was dead, I said a prayer for the soul of our departed brother - I prayed that in the last moment, he understood what evil he had done, and became reconciled with God. As a Christian, I believe that everyone I meet is yet another immortal creation of God - from the highest to the lowest, I am dealing with people who are built to live forever, who will live forever, and will either live with God or live without Him, as they choose in this life.
I also said a prayer of thanks that Zarqawi would no longer be able to murder the innocent, nor lead others astray - to follow his insane theology to their permanent destruction.
What his fate is will not be known by any of us while we live.

Mark, I also said a prayer. Mine was more like thank you God for the death of a viscious satanic killer. Please let him burn in hell all eternity. Let the terrorists and insurgents die a painful death that allows them NO time to call upon you. God, please give comfort and rest to all the innocents murdered by Zarqawi. Guide the Iraqie people into a homeland of peace. Guide the coalition in the reconstruction efforts of schools, hospitals, and the infrastructure. Please keep our coalition safe. God Bless America.

uffy,
I'm not sure about praying for the suffering of someone...just doesn't strike me as the thing to do.
Posted by: Mark Noonan at June 10, 2006 03:29 PM
After the first bomb hit the house where Zarquawi was located, the on scene commander decided to drop another just for good measure.
The news that Zarquawi was alive and concious when the US troops got there means that, more than likely, he was alive and concious after the first bomb went off and just before the second bomb hit as well. So not only did he hear it, but he felt justice being meted out.
His end was poetic justice for the pain and suffering he caused others.
