Can't Help But Laugh

Their Bush-bashing may have done wonders for album sales, but it appears much fewer people want to see the Dixie Chicks in concert...

Initial ticket sales for the Dixie Chicks' upcoming tour are far below expectations and several dates will likely be canceled or postoned.

Ticket counts for the 20-plus arena shows that went on sale last weekend were averaging 5,000-6,000 per show in major markets and less in secondaries, according to sources contacted by Billboard. Venue capacities on the tour generally top 15,000.

How did Bush-bashing do wonders for their album sales? Sales are down considerably from Home, the album they released before the comment heard around the world. Without any radio or video air play, aside from VH1 where the video is #1, they have suffered dramatically and that's why ticket sales are down so sharply. It's a shame that people who have principles and stand up for free speech end up suffering for it in the long run. We should all be applauding their candor and supporting them since they stand alone in their fight. I for one will continue to show my support and I hope thousands of others join me. I'm sure the Prez is laughing all the way to the bank on this one while he runs around trying to deny gays basic civil rights. Wow! You people keep supporting this man...he's certainly doing wonders for our country at home and abroad.

Well, some Red state animosity is to be expected. I hail their courage of putting their principles and convictions far ahead of their careers and know that they will be well taken care of down the road.

This is but a small speed bump

Sounds like tens, possibly hundreds, of thousands of Chicks fans refuse to pay money to be present when the band has another embarrassing "Natalie Moment."

Leave it to axis to see the small piture. He sees only a "small speed bump," but misses seeing where the bump is located. It's on the Road Down the Tour Circuit Toilet.

Courage, Axis? She bashed our President in a foreign country. She didn't have the courage to do it the U.S.

One word: Ann Coulter

Posted by: Ash [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 8, 2006 10:10 AM

Uh Ash, that's two words. And what does she have to do with the Dixie Chicks?

Posted by: kimberly4bush [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 8, 2006 10:19 AM

Maybe the Chicks should give up their dream of arena concerts and join the County Fair circuit.

So let me get this straight, laugh and revel at the misfortune of those who disagree with you? How very, very Christian of you! Or should I say how very, very Christianist of you?

Posted by: 3moreyears [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 8, 2006 10:57 AM

Maybe they could hire Mickey Rourke to play drums or something.

Posted by: Ricorun [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 8, 2006 11:11 AM

While I will never begrudge anyone their right to free speech, the Dixie Chicks are learning a lesson many people need to learn...free speech does not mean free of consequences. Say what you want but be prepared to have those you insult or those who disagree with you also exercise their right to free speech, whether it be with their words or their money.

Feeling that someone got their comeuppance does not make someone unchristian, it makes them human.

That was funny, Ricorun! Thanks for the laugh.

The Dixie Chicks are entitled to their own opinion. But then I am entitled to my own opinion too, and find that they crossed the line when they went to a different country to bash Bush. I actually like their new release-I'm not ready to make nice- First time Natalie Maines has sung ON key. Don't know if I will spend the money to buy their song, cause I'm not ready to make nice with them either...

Posted by: jwr at June 8, 2006 02:51 PM

Did you read the quote from one of the Chicks, saying that they were GLAD they lost part of their audience, because that just leaves the "True Fans" who are truly, deeply, devoted to them. OK, I'm paraphrasing, because I snorted my tea out my nose when I read it and blurred the type, but the gist of it was that they were happy to have their fan base narrowed to those who agree with them or love them no matter what.

So they won by losing. Why oh why does that sound so familiar? I guess they won't be REALLT successful till NO ONE buys their records or goes to their concerts....

Leftorium, that's not sarcasm, that's incoherence.

And get a dictionary. I make typos pretty often, as I am not a good typist, but I at least know the difference between "throws" and "throes".

But the last I heard, Air America was paying its own way in only two markets---the People's Republic of Boulder, Colorado, and somewhere in Minnesota, I think, or maybe Michigan----a northern tier state with a large liberal base. Even in wildly liberal Southern California, they are not picking up advertisers

Most broadcasters picked up AA because they were so cheap. While stations have to actually PAY for most shows, AA would come on for little or nothing. In nearly every market, they don't sell enough advertising to pay their freight---they are subsidized, mostly by Soros and his crew. So it is possible for a station to fill air time at little or no cost to them.

Jay Marvin is a washed-up old DJ who was out of work till AA picked him up. Alf Ranken has the personality and presence of a wart. His only entertainment value is his willingess to say absolutely anything, no matter how bizarre, and then "back it up" with the refrain "It's All In The Deulfer Report"---which he has clearly never read, as his claims are always in direct contradiction to the report. Ranty Rhodes is thought to be the only on-air talent worth a bucket of warm spit, but her shrill and strident rantings and her blatant disregard for the truth, plus her shameless appeal to the weirdest of the tinfoil-hat brigade, prejudice me so deeply that I can't see any talent. However, radio people say she is the only one who could possibly have a radio career anywhere but AA. I don't know if they think she could have a career as a radical left-wing propagandist on her own, or if they thought she was a decent DJ back in the day. Her decision to hide behind a fake name indicates that she is not wholly committed to her left-of-left ravings, but is just doing what she gets paid for.

So wait and see if Soros keeps bankrolling AA, especially if they fail to deliver by rallying the lunatic fringe in numbers large enough to impact the next two elections.

Say what you will about Rush, he pays his own way---as do Hannity, Hewitt and Medved (the two best talk shows on the air) and Gallagher and Reagan, all national hits. Each of these has succeeded all over the country, each on his own, selling enough advertising on his show to make lots of money for the stations and for themselves and to be classified as true successes. In addition, there are the nutters, like Savage and Beck, who don't need handouts from political action groups to stay on the air.

I can't think of one liberal talk show that has made it nationally on merit. The libs had to invent a single "network" limited to their propagandists, and then prop it up with radical left Soros money, and plant it in markets that only took it because it was cheap or free. Hardly a success story.

wouldn't be suprised if they(chicks) bought the first 100,000 copies of their new CD and gave them away! That's one way to get your cd sales up!

Ticket sales, who the hell want's to see them in concert! I didn't even want to when they were popular, I owned all there CD's but what was so great about there concerts?

The Dixie Chicks are acting like spoiled little girls who are pissed off because people disagreed with what they said. They need to get over it. It's our right to either buy their album or tune them out. There's consequences to their actions, especially being in the public eye, and they made themselves look bad by coming out with an album with a title of "Not Ready to Make Nice." Grow up already! Things probably would've been okay if they would've just let the issue die. Instead, they came out swinging.

Since I didn't hear their interview a few weeks ago in which they dissed the "rednecks," this opinion is based on what I heard on a radio talk show. It was reported that one of them said that their concerts have actually gotten better since most of the rednecks aren't there. That's how I understood it from the radio interview and from a person who saw the interview. I'm surprised that the Dixie Chicks were that stupid to badmouth a large part of their fanbase. Here in the South the term "redneck" isn't always a bad thing. Many people jokingly and lovingly refer to each other as rednecks. I think a lot of people were ready to put the Bush-bashing incident behind them, but when the Dixie Chicks came out with this latest interview, well, that was the last straw. Most people that I've heard call into the local radio stations are done with this group.
