On The DHS Funding Issue

Everyone seems to be up-in-arms over the anti-terror funding from the Department of Homeland Security. It was certainly easy to be initially outraged... which is fine... I think the debate is one that ought to be had. Even Hugh Hewitt jumped on the bandwagon... I tried to think of reasons why funding this year would be lower than the previous and I thought of several. My friend Kevin McCullough has his own explanation on both his blog and his column on WorldNetDaily, which everyone ought to read.

I totally agree...great article. They are acting like spoiled brats and what's even worse Clinton and Peter King are aligning themselves against the President.

Money = votes (so they think!). On one side of their mouth they are screaming about the deficits and the other side they are crying because they have no money. I don't trust Clinton with any money anyway, she thinks it all hers.

Anyway, Bloomberg is a billionaire, let him be a real hero and donate a 1/2 billion dollars and then he will be New Yorkers favorite Mayor.

Landmarks are those places where people do not reside. The Empire State Bldg is a building and not a landmark because there are people who work in that building every day.

Wow, amazing how you can even find a way to put a positive spin on Republicans vastly cutting the budget for their number one priority: TERROR

"Be afraid people, be ver afraid, but be a little less afraid as last year, we need to save our money for Iraq instead of wasting it here protecting the homeland."

Axis....you're Canadian remember? You don't mean anything to anyone.

Posted by: DM at June 6, 2006 08:22 AM

axis, get a life or make some meaningfull comment. You post often enough here I wonder how you have so much time to do so. It's getting too easy to blow off any comment of yours because it's most often a pathetic one.

wow kttr, that was a great rebuttal.

except that you basically said absolutely nothing. you did use the word "pathetic" though. ouch!

Ahh..Poor ol' New Yorker's and Angelino's getting less of my tax dollars. It's about time we in the heartland get some of that terror prevention lard.

Think I'll call my congressman and suggest the best use of the money is to issue $400 gun purchase vouchers to go along with the concealed carry law we just got passed. That'll do more to protect the citizens of Nebraska than some camera surveillence project.

Axis, no need for you to be afraid...I told you my daughter has your backside covered. The US military has long been the protecters of weak and gutless liberals.

“The release of the 2006 urban area grant allocations, which total $757 million, drew an immediate condemnation from leaders of Washington and New York, the two targets of the 2001 terrorist attacks, as well as expressions of befuddlement by anti-terrorism experts. “

$757 million pays for less than three days in Iraq. Way to lead Bush.

Democrats would be more credible on this subject - if they didn't have a paper trail. Democrats in New Jersey gave their funds all to Democrat controlled counties and stiffed the Republican counties. They handed out anti-terror money as a political reward.

The proposals from New York and D.C. were lacking in technical merit. They have been getting the lion’s share of the money for the last several years. Maybe, just maybe they can pull their faces out of the trough long enough for other cities to buy radios for their police and fire trucks?

And, it is foolish to think that just because that’s where we were attacked LAST time, that’s where we’d be attacked NEXT time. D.C. did not even get hit on 9/11. The Pentagon is in Arlington, Virginia. Money that goes to D.C. does not go to Northern Virginia. This money is not supposed to be some new permanent subsidy. It is supposed to help buy equipment and facilities. If you are caught up for now – let other cities buy the stuff they need and stop being pigs.

Barney, Did you read the links at all? It seems that you and axis just post whatever you feel. BTW New York City squandered much of what it got after 9/11, way to lead Bloomberg.

Nebraska,

Never forget that Tim McVeigh was a good, clean-cut military boy with Catholic roots, seems you need protection from yourself.

Where was flight 93 headed?

There were known plots against the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, NYC subway system. I guess the terrorist have simply lost interest in attacking New York anymore. I'm sure they feel 3,000 dead whiners is enough for now. If Al-Quaida got their hands on a nuke, where would they likely light it, Omaha?

Posted by: Parker [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 6, 2006 10:51 AM

You ditto heads are all the same. If it was a democrat cutting spending on terror prevention, you would be up in arms saying "SEE! SEE! Liberals are soft on terror!!!"

But if a conservative does it, its ok. That just shows that this "terror" angle is nothing more than a partisan ploy.

Posted by: axis at June 6, 2006 10:51 AM

"Barney, Did you read the links at all?"

Yes, I did. What is your point?

My point is that we could fully fund HS with what we spend in Iraq in less than a few days.

Posted by: Barneyg2000 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 6, 2006 11:30 AM

I live in upstate NY and I'm GLAD it was cut. Our property taxes have increased -- AGAIN -- thereby raising our "fixed" mortgage by 22%! It's time that politicians think about ways of reducing spending.

Posted by: Kitty at June 6, 2006 11:35 AM

Parker, No one knows FOR SURE where Flt 93 was heading. Maybe to D.C., but also maybe to the CIA? Which is in...Virginia.

There HAVE been foiled plots aginst New Youk (your welcome, yes the Republicans foiled them). But, there have also been plots against L.A. and other places. New York and D.C. are important - obviously. But they have taken all the money now for years. Just how many radios does New York need? Their proposals failed, because they were lame. Let people with real needs have THIS years money will you? Pigs.

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 6, 2006 11:52 AM

Barney, o.k., I missed your point, excuse me. I am not comfortable with what you seem to be implying but that's something I'd rather give some thought to before commenting. I am endevoring to be an intellegent poster vs. one that just shoots my mouth off without thinking.
