Landmark Affirmative Action Case In Our Midsts?

The Associated Press reports that the Supreme Court "will decide the extent to which public schools can use race in deciding school assignments, setting the stage for a landmark affirmative action ruling." Here's where it gets interesting...

The court rejected a similar case in December when moderate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was still on the bench. The outcome of this case will turn on her successor, Samuel Alito.

"Looming in the background of this is the constitutionality of affirmative action," said Davison Douglas, a law professor at William and Mary. "This is huge."

Huge indeed. I'm glad we have John Roberts and Samuel Alito on the court...

Oh my god the democrats are going to explode... This is going to unleash a round of hatred and protesting not seen since the war started. You know liberals know affirmative action is unconstitional and represents their greatest love, pro-african american racism. I do hope african americans realize that they are benefiting from democrat racism towards non-african americans; something they fought long and hard to reduce towards themselves.

Oh my! Another major front for the democrats to launch an assault on. So many battles, so few troops. How will they prevail? Let us hope and pray that they do not.

I always thought it was atrocious that my own government put blacks ahead of my kids just to meet a statis quo.

Many black people hate affirmative action because it demeans their own successes. When a person of color strives to excel, and does so, it is painful to live under the assumption that his or her advancement was at least in part "given" based on the further assumption that it could not have been achieved any other way. It is inherently racist, depending as it does on the belief that some races are just not capable of competing on a level playing field. And it is unconstitutional, because it is based on treating people differently based on race.

This country is based on equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome. If we were to truly treat everyone equally, then all parents would be able to look at the amount spent per child on education in their district and then apply that amount to the school of their choice, thereby having more say in the quality of their children's education.

And people who are not racist believe that children of any color, if given the same educational opportunities, should have the same doors open to them throughout their lives---based on their education, their talents, their ambitions, and their abilities. NOT on their color, whether to advance or to hinder their progress.
