Senators from both parties predicted quick confirmation for Paulson, who has deep expertise in China policy and since 2004 has been chairman of the Nature Conservancy, an environmental non-profit organization. Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), who sits on the Senate Finance and Banking committees and talked to Paulson shortly after the announcement, called him "the best pick America could have hoped for to deal with the difficult economic problems the country faces."Like low-unemployment, a booming housing market, high worker confidence, etc. etc.

Did you see how Bush lied about Snow’s resignation? On 5/25 Bush was asked about Snow’s future, and Dubya said that Snow was doing a fine job, and Snow had not mentioned leaving. In the press briefing, T-Snow said that Bush offered Paulson the post on 5/20. I guess bush was initiating a preemptive strike?
Our president, just can’t stop lying, can he?
Barney,
Do you even realize how deranged you sound? Snow hadn't resigned before 5/25. He serves at the Presedent's pleasure, and the President may offer the post to whomever he wishes.
If I ask for someone's resignation, I wouldn't do it on the front page of the New York Times.
Our Baloney, doesn't think past his own lies, does he?
On May 25th, President Bush said that Treasury Secretary John Snow had not given him any indication that he was leaving soon:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/05/20060525-12.htmlQ
PRESIDENT BUSH: Secretary of Treasury Snow?
Q,Has he given you any indication he intends to leave his job any time soon?…
PRESIDENT BUSH: No, he has not talked to me about resignation. I think he’s doing a fine job.
In fact, not only had Snow indicated he was leaving, President Bush had already settled on his replacement. Today, Tony Snow said that Hank Paulson was offered the job on May 20 and accepted a day later:
QUESTION: Do you have any tick tock on the Paulson…
SNOW: Yes. The tick tock is the two of them met on the 20th of May and there was a conversation. And Hank Paulson accepted the job a day later.
Bane, When asked in front of the American people about Snow's future Bush could have said "No Comment", or "that is something that I can't discuss at this time" but no, he had to lie, because he is incapable of telling the truth.
I can play that game too, pinhead,
"It was unclear when Snow would offer his resignation, these people said. Bush said he had heard nothing about it. MSNBC May 26, 2006
"He has not talked to me about resignation," Bush said Thursday night. "I think he's doing a fine job. After all, our economy is strong," he said, fielding reporters' questions in an appearance with British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The secretary, meanwhile, plans to attend the June 9-10 meeting in Russia of finance ministers from the world's richest countries."
But, you make up "facts" because your derangement knows no bounds, you're pathetic.
as he should be. an individual with his record, and the respect he commands from markets around the world, is just the thing this country needs right now.
