Unrest in Iran

Gateway Pundit has an excellent rundown, with pictures, of some of the recent anti-mullah demonstrations in Iran.

Our hope is that a revolution will break out in Iran and solve our problem there for us - so, this is encouraging, and I hope our government is doing its level best behind the scenes to encourage revolt against the disgusting rulers of Iran.

Go Special Forces!

Those demonstrations happened because a cartoon was published which said that the largest minority(24%) was as "dumb as a stump". The minority took exception, held massive demonstrations and the newspaper was shut down and the editor spent a few nights in the slam. If you are calling for a Peaceful "people-power" revolution I'm with you. If you are calling for more violence(war), that is not a very christian thing to do. Peace

Not all "people-power" revolutions are bloodless. For example, the 1989 Romanian Revolution was definitely people-driven and ultimately resulted in the execution of Nicolae Ceaucescu and his wife!
War

"If you are calling for more violence(war), that is not a very christian thing to do. Peace"

Letting people be ruled by a dictator in a country where human rights are violated on a daily basis isn't a christian thing to do. I guess the liberal thing to do is ignore it and put your finger in your ears and yell out "America is the worst country in the world".

The "thing to do" is to make change without gunfire, bombs and death. I don't know about you, but one day of life is always better then being dead. Peace

raker13,

RE: "...pleasure at rioting in Iran..." (From your post on "The Continuing Abomination Which is Abortion.")

I would think you would look at that with some hope also.

Contrary to what some of you might think, I have absolutely no desire to go to war with Iran. I have absolutely no desire to take out their nuclear facilities in a preemptive strike, or for Israel to have to do the same.

I continue to hope that something will happen so we avoid that possibility -- permanently. I hope that diplomatic efforts will succeed, but with Russia and China opposed because of their own personal interests, I am not that optimistic it will happen. At least Europe, even France and Germany the last I heard, understand that a nation like Iran CAN NOT be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.

If a diplomatic solution is reached, it must be a real solution, not just something that reduces the rhetoric, reduces tensions, and cools the situation down in the near term -- only to have it redevelop in a year or two or three with Iran then having the materials, know-how, and capability to develop those weapons.

I don't see Iran's new president doing anything to stop his stated goal of producing nuclear weapons or in using them against Israel, the U.S., or some other nations when it suits his mood.

Let's hope that this unrest has some positive effect on stopping Iran. Let's hope that by some wild stretch of the imagination, the Iranian president wakes up, sees the light, and stops the nonsense. If that doesn't happen, let's hope that the demonstrations lead to a change in leadership and that the new leaders want a peaceful solution -- which means NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS and NO CAPABILITY to develop them later.

That is my hope -- that the demonstrations might lead to a peaceful solution so we do not have to conduct a preemptive strike. It's a long shot, because the Iranian president may kill his opposition just like Saddam killed his.

If President Bush through the CIA, our military, our Special Forces, or any other means can foster and encourage demonstrations that lead to changes in leadership and direction, President Bush has my full support. I hope and I believe he is taking those actions. Will they succeed? Only history will tell us that.

If all other options fail, however, I will support President Bush in eliminating their capability by whatever means is necessary -- before Iran has that capability.

Mark, curious question for you, lets say bush did decide to use the cia to install a new government, what makes you think it would be any better than the current? Look at the coup he supported in Venezuela, a band of thugs took chavezs office and bush hailed them as democratic....

Posted by: kiwi at May 30, 2006 12:29 AM

Kiwi,

Actually, President Bush didn't do anything, plus or minus, over Venezuela...though, of course, it would have been entirely to the benefit of the United States and the world if Chavez had been taken out...or do you have a hankering for a man who is using the wealth of his people to prop up cruel dictators like Castro?

As for a replacement regime in Iran - the only thing we can know for certain is that it can't be worse than what we have now.

-- No its not, thats why we all need to get rid of Bush who is violating civil rights and human rights on a daily basis.

Its the Christian thing to do. Good to see you seeing things clearly for a change.

Mark, again off topic but im sure you'll like this comment. First off I'd like to point out 1 thing, i do not support castro, he is a dictator and should be treated as such. As for the "wealth of the people", that money is being used for the first time to give food to the poor, education to the poor, jobs to the poor, homes to the poor (you get the idea). As for better for america, he has given very cheap oil to _americans_ who cannot afford oil. Now as for the final point, Bush did support the coup, there is evidence he helped (well his office helped) plan the coup, I will not say he did (no proof, just evidence) but I will say it is very likely, and in anycase, why should anyone say he should be removed? he was elected by a huge majority and likely to be elected by an even larger majority this year....seems democratic to me.
by the way, would be nice to see you post more stories on chavez, even if they are to insult him ;)

Mark,

"As for a replacement regime in Iran - the only thing we can know for certain is that it can't be worse than what we have now."

Isn't that what were saying after we helped in overthrowing the Shah...or any number of other democratically elected administrations who don't play ball with us?
