A Boom In Iraqi Charities Post-Saddam

Surprisingly, this comes from the New York Times:

Since 2003 the government has registered 5,000 private organizations, including charities, human rights groups, medical assistance agencies and literacy projects. Officials estimate that an additional 7,000 groups are working unofficially. The efforts show that even as violence and sectarian hatred tear Iraq's mixed cities apart, a growing number of Iraqis are trying to bring them together. […] The burst of public-spiritedness comes after long decades of muzzled community life under Saddam Hussein, when drab Soviet-style committees for youth, women and industrialists were the only community groups permitted.

More of those left-wing myths and propaganda here and here

Reality is so biased! Why does reality hate America so much? When will reality wake up and see Bush for the fantastic leader he really is?

Doh! Here goes reality again, in all its America-hating, anti-Bush... realness:

"All Western news organizations have struggled with the dangerous conditions in Iraq, which have led to such high-profile incidents as the kidnapping of Christian Science Monitor reporter Jill Carroll and the wounding of ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff. But for a federally funded information service to pull out of Baghdad for such a prolonged period raises questions about the Bush administration's insistence that conditions there are gradually improving.

VOA reporter Alisha Ryu said yesterday that she told her bosses in December that "it would really be impossible for me to do any kind of work" in Iraq. "I couldn't live with the idea that someone else could have died who was working with me. . . . For all journalists, it's really become impossible to move around."

Dang that Reality!!

This is a little off topic, but I hope you don't mind me posting it. I found it interesting:

RNC’s Mehlman Warns of $3.75 Gas with Democrats

A Democratic-controlled Congress would boost gasoline prices even more though over-regulation and cost the average American family nearly $1,000 more a year, the Republican National Committee warns.

The Democrats favor an increase in the taxes imposed on gasoline purchases, and the average price of regular gas would rise to $3.751 a gallon, according to an e-mail from RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman.

The Web site GOP.com offers a “gas calculator” to show how much more each driver would pay in a year. The figures are based on year, make and model information about the vehicle, along with the average gasoline price in the state in which it is driven and the weekly distance traveled. This information is calculated against a template of proposed taxes and environmental regulations/restictions in accordance with the Kyoto Treaty, which is favored by many Democrats.

Bottom line: The average family would pay $955 more a year if Democrats take control of Congress, according to the RNC.

“Democrats have consistently stood in the way of lower energy prices for American families,” the e-mail states.

“Whether it’s higher taxes, more regulation, blocking new exploration, or opposing the conservation measures in last year’s energy bill, Democrats in control of Congress would mean higher prices at the pump.

“President Bush is focused on providing practical solutions to energy prices: fair prices at the pump, increased supplies of gasoline, greater fuel efficiency, and new alternative fuels . . . All Democrats offer is hot air designed to conceal their long record of supporting higher energy costs for America’s families.

“When it comes to gas prices, Americans have a choice between President Bush’s four-point plan for lowering prices at the pump, or liberal Democrats who consistently choose higher taxes, more regulations, and more dependence on foreign oil over safe exploration within our borders.”

More moonbat dialog instead of legitimate discussion here and here

You know I remember right after Katrina hit, there were Iraqi soldiers that took up a collection for the victims of the hurricane. It was about 1,000,000 Iraqi dinar which worked out to be only about $760.00, but the message was clear. The Iraqi people have an amazing capacity for giving and it was really amazing to hear about their generosity.

"The Democrats favor an increase in the taxes imposed on gasoline purchases, and the average price of regular gas would rise to $3.751 a gallon, according to an e-mail from RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman."

--Wow, thats only a few cents more than some parts of the country are paying now!! Not much of a shock there.

Truth is that gas prices are high because you invaded Iraq and shut down their oil production! You sliced away 20% of the worlds oil production and its only been trickling out ever since.

Geoge Bush's business partners, the Bin Laden family thank all americans for making them filty rich by invading iraq, so do the major oil companies world wide.

Republicans are the last ones on earth who should be talking about someone else raising the prices of gas. Gas cost $1-$1.40 all through the Clinton years. Bush takes office and has tripled it in 5 years.

If he attacks Iran and they shut down production, it will go up to $6 a gallon very quickly. Mess with Venezuela and you are looking at $8 a gallon.
The more oil rich countries you mess with, the higher the price.

"President Bush is focused on providing practical solutions to energy prices: fair prices at the pump, increased supplies of gasoline, greater fuel efficiency, and new alternative fuels "

-- When does all this start. I see windbag on the podium, but NO action. Windbag signed in a bill that actually penalizes consumers that buy hybrid cars. All of windbags promises are 10-20 years down the road, nothing to ease prices in the short term

All Democrats offer is hot air designed to conceal their long record of supporting higher energy costs for America’s families.

Clinton - Gas $1.40/Gallon
Bush - Gas $3.20/Gallon

Yup, you're right, democrats cause higher prices. LOL

Nice to see the lefties can completely hijack a thread on the generosity of a people involved in a struggle against terror. Do any of you have anything significant to add to this discussion or are you just going to talk about how much you hate President Bush?

Truly pathetic.
