First of all, there must be something about the Hollywood air that turns people into morons. Secondly...thanks for being one of the few conservative blogs I could read yesterday and today which doesn't think the United States is doomed as we know it. I got so sick of the wailing yesterday regarding Bush's speech I just stopped reading and worked my tail off in my home business. Probably a good thing all the way around. :-) This is about the only stop I'm gonna make today, too. Maybe my other favorites will stop throwing a fit soon and get back to some constructive talk.

Good strategy, Matt. With news reports out this morning indicating that ordinary Americans, weary of the persistent fiscal flogging and incessant lying from the White House and GOP Congressional majority, are abandoning Republicans and all that they "stand for" in droves, you turn to matters of greater importance...Jodie Foster.
Keep it up, Matt. I understand that your strategy is to distract the mindless sycophants and self-deceiving dimwits that comprise your core audience from the truth about what the GOP is doing to them, their children and their grandchildren. I understand likewise that this task gets more difficult each day, and that turning to issues like Jodie Foster allows you to throw a bit of rancid red meat to the idiot faithful among your readership base.
Face it, though. The Bush ship of state is, blessedly, sinking. Your enthusiastic cheerleading and simplistic efforts at distracting your readers to the contrary, even the core GOP dopes are beginning to get it, Matt. You sound increasingly exhausted, desperate even. Perhaps you should take a break. I recommend that you take some time off, relax a bit, watch a movie. Best not make it a Jodie Foster movie, though. You would not want to become corrupted by her stunning intellectual power and political might.
Good luck!

First of all in order to survive all the rejection that an actor/actress gets to make it big they have to be narcissistic. It does not mean they are deep thinkers, or that their opinion is any better or more correct because they are famous. It’s the gullible that will give their opinions more weight than it deserves. Jodie Foster is just an actress and too many people will give too much weight to what she says because she’s famous, how foolish. Of course those who agree with her in the first place won’t see anything wrong with that. In my opinion liberals have been angry with Bush since he won the 2000 election and it’s only deepened with time. Many liberals seem to have lost any sensibility and will do foolish things in order to undermine Bush, even if it means hurting this country.

America has always been caught up in the cult of the celebrity. We mistake pizazz for profundity, fame for importance.
There are people out there who - seriously - want Martin Sheen to run for President. Because he played one on TV. They forget someone else wrote his wisdom for him, that he is just a really, really good player at make-believe.
Foster, Eminem, et al are not politicians. Their competence in entertainment does not transfer over, any more than your plumber's skills make him a Secretary of the Treasury.
Conservatives are not immune - I give you Ahnold as a good example. He got into power by A) giving a really good imitation of a robot, and B) giving a really good imitation of a Bush supporter.
It's time to recognize "celebrities" as what they are. Applaud their performances, and stop listening to their suggestions on foreign policy.

I actually graduated from Penn this year and sat through commencement, in the rain, with Ms. Foster. Truth be told, she was good. Her rap was kinda lame, and she didn't get much in the way of audience participation, but the woman gave a good speech (much better, incidentally, than the university president's). When she was talking about the country being worse off than 4 years ago, it was a really minor point, in the context of telling students it was up to them to decide what their path was going to be after graduation. And do notice she said 4 years -- the length of a typical undergraduate career -- not 6 years, the length of Bush's presidency. Her speech was about encouraging activism and for students to grow into the people they already are, not following dictated life plans. She confessed to spending the 6 months following her own graduation on the couch watching reruns, and then realizing that her contribution to the world was telling stories -- in her case, the stories of women who overcame adversity to thrive.
Also, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Yale, and she was valedictorian of her high school class. Certainly grade inflation and special celebrity admissions standards exist in the Ivies, but I'd wager that Foster also made it on her own merits.
I had thought it was pretty cheesy for Penn to select Foster as the speaker initially, but she did a great job. More embarassing was the honorary doctorate given to Mr. Winn of casino fame, who donated the Winn Commons to the campus...

Ash, the President admitted to driving while intoxicated-----a long, long, time ago. He never admitted to cocaine use, and the only evidence that he ever did use cocaine was one anonymous person who claimed to have seen him using it.
If you want to play Hypocrisy, let's volley. If you are so offended by the idea that a 58-year-old man may have experimented with a drug forty years ago, then you are no doubt equally, or even more, offended by Al Gore spending his entire Viet Nam tour being baby-sat by soliders whose sole jobs were to keep him safe, out of trouble, and supplied with dope. You must be OUTRAGED to learn that Bill Clinton's convicted dope-dealing brother Roger is on tape telling a dope source that he is looking for blow for his brother, who has a "nose like a Hoover" when it comes to coke.
George W. Bush made a mistake in his youth---stop the presses for that one Ash, as you clearly have never heard of, or experienced, the kind of poor judgement young people can exhibit. However, it is documented and proved that as he grew up and matured, he determined to correct his earlier mistakes and became a sober, dedicated, man---a man who was an excellent governor and is an excellent, if not unflawed, President.
Bruce, on the other hand, is still an immature boozer, with recent proof of same, and has accomplished nothing more than being an entertainer. Wow.
The sad and scary thing is that to libs, being a celebrity is just as important and meaningful as being a leader. Which is why you have all these vapid starlet-types spouting off as if their opinion on anything but eyeshadow has any meaning at all.

It goes beyond the actors, though. I liked all the actors in "Stealth" and I also like military action movies, but avoided it because of the left-wing propaganda in the script. I just won't see a movie that lectures me on the virtues of liberalism or the evils of conservatism.
