Seniors Flocking To Bush's Prescription Drug Program

Whenever I talk about the Bush's prescription drug program, it usually prompts left-wingers to come out and say how "horrible" it is and how "nobody is signing up," and repeating lie after lie after lie.

The program appears to be doing quite well, as seniors are signing up and saving plenthy. If left-wingers don't want to believe it... well, they don't have to take my word for it.

This week, Mr. Bush is storming through this state, rich with older residents, as the main salesman for a plan that aides say is now emerging as a surprise plus for Republicans in a rocky election season. Rather than angering a crucial bloc, aides say, the plan gives older voters, who go to the polls more reliably than younger ones, something that always endears politicians to constituents – money in the pocket. "I think it's going to be value added as we go forward," Dan Bartlett, the White House counselor, said at the end of a presidential event here encouraging people to sign up for the program before the deadline on Monday. Asked whether Republicans should promote the plan as they campaign this summer, Mr. Bartlett said, "They'd be smart to."

Whenever I talk about the Bush's prescription drug program, it usually prompts left-wingers to come out and say how "horrible" it is...

What do you expect from a bunch of kooks who go to the Dennis Kucinich School of Economics,
Doom-and-Gloom Department. I saw Kookcinich on Cavuto yesterday, talking down the economy as if Cleveland Ohio was the entire U.S.

I guess Kookcinich is in a safe district, so he is the DNC spokesman. Give him the talking points and let him go. What garbage...

Left-wingers are surely kooks, as you say, but you Republicans are seriously conflicted. Republicans advocate a free-market economy while at same time exhalting the virtues of self-sacrifice. This contradictory position ultimately makes Republicans into left-wing socialists. The Bush Medicare drug bill is a perfect example. That drug bill is nothing more than the expansion of Medicare and therefore the expansion of socialism.

You Republicans talk a good game. And I have to give Bush high marks for his tenacity and persistence in fighting the terrorists (hopefully he bombs Iran soon), but with programs like the Bush drug plan (and that weak attempt at reforming SS), how can you guys genuinely and with a straight face, claim the political "high ground"? In the end, it seems you are more like the kooks than you like to admit.

All the senior folks here are really happy with the new Medicare D. I have heard savings of up to 80% of the cost of the drugs. Seniors are benefitting from this, in addition to the cuts in capital gains/dividends.

BeSelfish - Your answer for the drug bill solution is?

Your answer for reforming SS is?

Your answer for the "high ground" is?

"Obstruction", "we can do better", "I killed the patriot act", "Cut & Run", "Anti-Americanism", "Give terrorist all known intelligence" and "party of no ideas" -- what kind of a political party is that?

Even if some things are not perfect, "Your President", is doing more for this country than anyone else. Without any assistance from the do nothing but oppose --- party.

If you are a politician and have no constructive views, what good are you? Why should you be paid by anyone? Aren't you a discrace to the people who elected you to do something?

My elderly parents (85 and 86) signed up for the prescription drug plan back in January. The insurance agent with whom they have their Medicare supplement policy helped them with the paperwork. My dad takes 2 prescriptions, and my mom 2. Three of their four prescriptions are VERY expensive. So far they're saving between $400 and $500 a month. They live in a retirement center, and virtually everyone they know there has signed up for the program.

Allright dl,

you have a point. I suppose I should've included something constructive in my previous. So, here you go.

1. My answer for the drug bill solution? Free markets.
2. My answer for reforming SS? Free markets.
(By free markets I don't mean the highly regulated, mixed economy we live with today. I'm talking President Harding/Calvin Coolidge free market. I'm talkin' lassaiz-faire Capitalism).
3. My answer for the high ground? Respect and defend individual rights. Which, naturally, necessarily and poetically, I might add, will lead to free markets!

My previous post dl, was meant to send out a "gut check" to honest republicans who I believe are, fundamentally speaking, 2/3rds of the way to the higher ground. The Repubs seem to have a grasp of the value of a free market economy and unlike the left-wingers, they at least maintain that principles are important and should be followed (left wingers are, of course, skeptics and relativsts and have lost sight of the value principles long ago). The problem for the Repubs is that their view of prinicples is largely dogmatic (the virtue of self-sacrifice) and therefore stifling their ability to see how their respect for Capitalism comes from a deep-seeded admiration for the achiever and the do-er not for the martyr.

Another solution, dl? Check your premises, Repubs. The higher ground is closer to you than you think.

Matt, my mother signed up and she has been extremely happy with the program. Whenever she goes to fill a prescription she saves alot of money. Thank you President Bush for helping all our elderly parents get cheaper drugs. President George W. Bush, the greatest president in american history.

just more yammering from the left that will not resonate with a senior..the plan I signed up for today will save me right away at least $150.00 per month and as of now, I don't even take any drugs!!!! so there, put that in your pipe and smoke it...oh, sorry, I am sure libs don't smoke...they don't want anyone else to be able to either!!!

I'm going to repeat myself....

Matt,

How come you like "socialist" ideas when it's administered poorly and pads the pockets of insurance and pharmacutical executives?

I'm confused, I thought you hate that stuff?
