Two Points of View of the Economy

An interesting piece from the Associated Press points out how Republicans and Democrats are viewing the economy differently.

America's economy is strong. Or it's in trouble. It just depends on who's talking. Trying to retool his message and right his listing presidency,
President Bush is speaking out more frequently and forcefully on the economy.

It's in good shape right now, his advisers say, and they want him to take more credit for it.

The latest reports show healthy increases in economic growth, job creation, home ownership, retail sales and consumer spending. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is at a six-year high.

"This economy is powerful, productive and prosperous and we intend to keep it that way," Bush says.

While the economy continues to boom, the Democrats keep talking it down, ignoring the facts. It's a shame that Democrats are letting politics distort their perceptions of the economy.

golly gee andy, if lieutenant kerry had won the economy would be just swell including for all them lettuce pickers who don't sabe american...

When the unemployment rate was 6.5% under Clintune, the AP said that this economy was the best ever.

Bush just needs to pound on the economy and make his own news about it. When people get their 401k statements showing significant gains and the market approaches 12k, people will under what's going on.

Matt:

I think you missed the point of the article. The article presents both side's arguments. All you did was strip out your side's arguments and use it to attack the other side.

"letting politics distort their perceptions"

That is classic coming from this site!

I'm so sick of those who look at 4.7 percent unemployment through Donk Glasses and say it's bad, when it was the Second Coming when Bill was sitting in the big seat. Like Bush or hate him, this is a strong economy. Period. End of discussion. And please...spare me all your slanted statistics... I lived through the Clinton "boom years" and saw the poor "suffer" (I hate to use that word...here in America we are clueless as to what poor really is) as much under him as under Bush or anybody. Save that sacrimonious statistical slant for those who haven't lived in the "hood." I was there for 10 years...heard it all, saw it all, experienced it all.

I'm still looking for all those souplines that the Demublicans keep harping about...

I was in a small town last week, population maybe 10,000, and for grins took a look at the classifieds. In a town that size, there were four and a half pages of Help Wanted ads---and some were from a neighboring city, telling me that companies in the entire area are also having a hard time finding enough workers.

And For Rent ads were skimpy, though there were lots of used cars and used appliances and furniture for sale. That all indicates that people are working, renting or buying places to live, buying new cars and furniture and appliances, and generally being aware of what the smart-guy Dems still haven't figured out---that the economy is doing great.

If anyone could point me to those awful souplines, I'd be mighty grateful. Once there, I'll demand my French Onion Soup, since apparently the socialists have every answer to our capitalistic problems. Certainly Europe's economic examples are so infallible that we ought to be following them. Let's see - unemployment hovering around 10%, private investment near zero, the "disenfranchised" population in revolt, and little or no incentive for private enterprise... Hmmm... I kinda' like things the way they're going here. Call me bigoted if you want. I've been called worse. When it comes down to it, though, I'll pull out my quarterly 401K statement and be glad that things are humming along nicely...

But in the proud tradition of the liberal democrats, I sure would like some free French Onion Soup from all those soup lines... After all: someone has to pay for it - as long as it's not ME!!!
