More good news about the Medicare prescription-drug program...
Medicare's prescription-drug benefit will cost the government about 20% less during the next decade than was projected a year ago, but largely for reasons outside the government's control. Most of the reduction will result from lower-than-expected growth in the nation's per capita drug spending, Medicare's actuaries said in their latest projections, which came as part of the annual release of data on the financial health of Medicare and Social Security from the trustees of the programs. … "The outlook for Medicare [drug coverage] is much better," said Mark McClellan, administrator of the federal agency that runs the program.
Not only does it cost less than anticipated,
the beneficiaries are satisfied with the coverage.

You know times are tough for the Republicans, when they start talking up a program they passed because it won't be the failure everybody thought it would be. Time will tell if it's any good or not, say 5 years. Peace

I wonder if that has anything to do with the Ads about getting people to sign up. I mean do we have fewer folks signed up to it than we thought? They joining other perscription plans?

I don't buy it. The federal gov't has never passed a program that comes in cheaper than touted...especially one supported by Democrats and Republicans.

President Bush did a great thing, giving all our elderly parents cheaper drugs. All the while taking grief from both sides of the aisle. To answer steves point, it already is a great success. Here's one success story. My mother signed up recently and is saving a great deal of money every month when she goes to the pharmacy. I believe this is the account of most seniors on the program. I know dems measure success, not by results but what a poll says and if it "feels good". But in this case, we have results, great poll numbers and it feels good. I call that a success already.

Now if they would just stop those stupid adds for problems we never knew we had but now there is a miracle drug to cure it.
