It was four days of virtually ignoring all things political. I needed it, but now it's time to get back into it. The WH definitely needs to get on the offensive. They're letting the drive-by media, and the kooks in Congress, set the agenda, and it's a loser for us. National security is at stake here; the GWOT can be lost if the election goes bad. The Fairness Doctrine can be reinstituted, which means I'd have to listen to jerks like Franken on the radio if I wanted to listen to Limbaugh/Hannity/Ingraham.

I beg to differ, oh Keefer(the bogey man?). Despite being a liberal, I was a very good (averaged 19 points, 5 rebounds a game) basketball player in college. Despite being a slow white guy with a vertical leap of 2 inches. It was my competitiveness and court sense that allowed me to succeed.

Today I compete against very tall mountains as an avid hiker.

Why has the White House and Republican waited this long to figure that out?

They should have been aggressively fighting the liberal Democrats for the past five years -- and hard! If President Bush and all Republicans had been doing that, President Bush's ratings would not be where they are and Republicans would not be the ones on the defense. That goes for the Iraq war, war on terror, tax cuts, energy and drilling in ANWR, as well as most other issues. Republicans have waited too long and suffered too many body blows at this point! Can they make a full recovery? I'm doubtful.

The Dims seem to have a much better understanding of how to control and manipulate people, of how to effectively use propaganda, and how to influence voters. Perhaps Republicans should hire some experts and train their members on how to use the media and how to influence public opinion.

Republican fail time after time to take advantage of issues when they are at the forefront of the news, when they are on people's minds, when the people are receptive to listening and understanding. Then they must keep up the pressure, not hit an issue for a few days and then let it die until the next time it comes up... like oil, ANWR, gay marriage, activist judges, Iraq, the Ten Commandments, "under God", and more.

It's not enough to report the news or make a statement to the American voters. Republicans must do the analysis for the people and help them think. To assume that the average American sees and understands all aspects of an issue is a sure path to failure. The Dims get it... the Republicans don't... of if they do, the sure don't show it or do anything about it!

That's why we need some more really vocal Republicans who are effective and willing speakers. Get rid of the RINOs too. Apply the Conservative money to the states and politicians who can elect those politicians and away from the RINOs and more liberal Republicans.

Republicans must learn to fight a war of many fronts against liberals and elect members who will fight with them and not against them.

We need some outspoken Republicans leaders from secure Conservative areas, who aren't worried or constrained by polls, who will lead the fight and who will instruct Conservatives in the fight and actions to take.

However, as a note to you and the bearman, I have always agreed that "golf is a good walk, ruined".

I have always wondered why the Republicans have become so timid and apologetic. I really disliked Scott McClellan for that reason---he made everything sound either suspect or the subject of an apology. But the simple fact is, while most of America would figure out our successes on their own if the left and the liberal press didn't keep spinning them into failures, and while many figure it out anyway, we do need to get out there and stand up for what we have accomplished.

We've just gotten so wimpy.....

It may just be that we were brought up not to brag, in much the same way that we are so bad at the rolling-around-in-the-muck attacks the left depends on with some success.
