I'm glad of that. Got to get those tire slashers, and people who don't help old ladies across the street to the poles. While we're at it, why don't we accuse Tom DeLay, "Duke" Cunningham, and Jack Abramoff of being closet democrats. Maybe Scooter Libby, and the Govenor of Ohio, too. If we can do that, maybe Bush's job approval ratings will come out of the basemant.
Guys, honestly, isn't this a little small. Must every snail darter that crosses your desk be worthy of posting.

are these accusations true?
"....MURDOCH THE OIL IMPERIALIST: Murdoch has acknowledged his major rationale for supporting the Iraq invasion: oil. While both American and British politicians strenuously deny the significance of oil in the war, the Guardian of London notes, "Murdoch wasn't so reticent. He believes that deposing the Iraqi leader would lead to cheaper oil." Murdoch said before the war, "The greatest thing to come out of this for the world economy...would be $20 a barrel for oil. That's bigger than any tax cut in any country." He buttressed this statement when he later said, "Once [Iraq] is behind us, the whole world will benefit from cheaper oil which will be a bigger stimulus than anything else." [Guardian, 2/17/03]...."

JATP, no this isn't something small. This is pretty damn low. Slashing the tires of Republican "Get out the vote" vehicles who bring the elderly and disabled to the polls?? Please. It just shows the true character of these liberal activists. I'm just so glad that JOOHHNN KEERRRYYY REEPOORRTTIIINNGG FOOR DUTYYYY didnt win. There's no way I could stand to watch that traitor salute our troops coming off of Marine and Air Force One.

I hope everyone who messes with legal political activity and voting efforts get prosecuted. These are four guys, how many more throughout the nation (on either side) are there?
From vandalizing campaign offices (Happens almost every year here in Barstow, the Republican offices are vandelized in some way.) to intimidating voters it's all wrong and it needs to be detailed.

JATP, this was just one item. Other "liberals" shot into Republican offices. Some offices were ransacked and still others were firebombed.
But, why let actual facts cloud your judgement.

If it were Republicans who slashed democrat tires the case would be in the Supreme Court on civil rights charges.

Just today, in the Great State of Georgia, the director of a Republicrat candidate for Lt. Governor (Cathy Cox) had to resign because he modified an entry in Wikipedia about the opposition's (Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor (D)) biography. This modification included the factually correct, but sleazy notification that his son had been involved in a drunk driving accident in which his son's best friend lost his life. That case is still pending in a court of law (the negligent homicide charge, that is).
This modification, while factually correct, was - I repeat - a sleazy attempt to smear the Lt. Governor's good name and to cause voters to think twice about voting for him. I was appalled at the action. I was relieved that the director of Ms. Cox's campaign had to resign.
In this instance, it was a Republicrat who chose to take the low road. This at the very beginnings of the campaign... Just wait until the race heats up!
Citizens of every stripe need to take note when something like this occurs and let their feelings be known to the offending party. It's one thing for us to whine and moan at one another here on the blogsites, but if we allow our politicians the same leeway, this country is heading down the wrong, wrong road...

"Only in a far left wing fringe kook could facts be considered a "smear." I wonder if these fanatics even bother reading the drivel they write?"
Are you referencing my post about the Lt. Governor's race in Georgia? Perhaps you misread my post. The FACT that the Lt. Governor's son was involved in an accident that resulted in the death of his friend is not at issue. The "smear" part involves informing potential voters that this candidate's SON was involved in a negligent homicide case. Why would that FACT be relevant to the candidacy of the FATHER of the person in question? Doesn't that seem offensive at all to you?
For the sake of argument, let's stipulate that you are running for a political office. Your cousin is involved in a court case involving charges that she murdered someone last year. Your opposition makes YOUR COUSIN'S legal problems as a reason not to vote for YOU!!
Not only is it irrelevant, it's sleazy. It's an attempt to transfer some sense of guilt on your cousin's part to you and your candidacy. Don't you find that a bit disturbing and to be an attempt to smear you by associating you with your cousin's legal troubles...
And for the record, I state once again: In this instance, it was a Republicrat campaign worker who attempted the "guilt by association" tactic on their Demublican opponent. It's sleazy and it's smarmy. The campaign worker got off extremely easy by just resigning...

Gee, didn't the DEMS make a big point out of the President's WIFE being a driver in a fatal accident? There was no alcohol involved, no drugs, and the car she hit when she ran a stop sign, at the age of 17, was driven by her boyfriend. But the Higher Moral Ground Dems called her a "murderer".
Well, OK, it was not the official Democratic Party doing this---it was their de facto mouthpiece, the propaganda organ for the party, Air America. But never denounced by the party.

Please note that it was one who usually takes the conservative point of view on this blog who pointed out a wrongdoing by one of what we assume is his party.
See, that's what it's all about----standing up for what is right, without first looking to see if there is a D or an R next to the bad guy's name.

I agree with Gozer. Any attempt to prevent people from voting should be considered a serious offense. It's not only criminal, it's immoral and definitely un-American.
dbog, Cox (the current Sec. of State) and Taylor (the current Lt. Governor) are running for Governor, not Lt. Governor. But I get your point, and I agree. There's way too much smarminess going around.

dbogdan - well I can certainly see why changing a wikipedia entry would be considered the same or worse as slashing tires, shooting into offices, ransacking offices, and firebombing offices. I mean well yah. Whew - thanks for catching that.
How about Democratic operatives illegally getting the credit report of the black (Republican) Lt. Governor running for governor or Maryland? Naw, that's not as bad a wikipedia I guess.

To all who corrected my egregious error in both party affiliation and office being sought in the Cathy Cox/Mark Taylor fiasco:
I sit humbly in my chair, wiping bits of egg goo off my face...
I was just reading about another political scandal involving a female repub just as I went to pen my thoughts on this issue, so I had a short-circuit and didn't catch it in time... my bad!
I've been called a lot of things in my life, but never such a low blow as a "left wing fringe kook!" I about lost my cookies when I read that! LOL!!
As for Kahn's somewhat sarcastic remark comparing a campaign smear to other, more obviously violent infringements, I agree that it doesn't rise to the level of criminality as slashing tires, or firebombing offices, but it is harmful to the body politic in a more subtle, insidious way. It opens up a floodgate of acceptable behavior that was otherwise tactily agreed upon by both parties to be "off limits."

I have no idea who you might have in mind when you said "To all..." Then again, maybe I do. Either way, it's not important. To err is human. What is important is that none of the errors you made really detract from your essential point. You were arguing on the basis of right vs. wrong, not on the basis of right vs. left. That's the important thing. I don't pay much attention to right vs. left arguments. But I do pay a lot of attention to right vs. wrong arguments. Morality and ethics are very important to me. But so is the logical consistency that follow from those moral precepts. But that's the subject of another rant.
dbogdan also said: "I've been called a lot of things in my life, but never such a low blow as a "left wing fringe kook!" I about lost my cookies when I read that! LOL!!"
So it really was your first time, huh? Was it good? Lol!! Seriously though, it seems to me that whatever place you occupy on the left/right political continuum (which I think is itself too simple a conception, but that's the subject of yet another rant), there will be those to the left of you who think you are a wingnut, and those to the right of you who think you are a moonbat. In the end it's the message, not the messenger. Character assasination has no place in a fact-based discussion. If there's a take-home message to any of my ravings, it would be that: pay attention to what people say -- the facts and logic involved -- rather than their perspective first and foremost. Democrats, Republicans, liberals or conservatives cannot be considered complete, raving idiots merely on the basis of the label one is inclined to attach to them.
Dbogdan, to the extent that your revulsion at being called a left wing fringe kook was heartfelt (and I'm guessing it was at least a little bit), it should be a wake-up call to you: you were marginalized not on the basis of what you said but on the basis of your perceived approach. Doesn't that piss you off? I think it should.

Ricorun,
Yes, it did piss me off - based upon my perceived approach. I guess the feedback highlighted the partisanship inherent in everybody's approach to the issue. I goofed, but I was nonetheless "called to task" for my comments. It was somewhat comical to hear people accuse me of being - gasp - a leftwing kook, when I am most clearly not of a leftist orientation in any way, shape or form. It was an abject lesson in understanding how people often respond in knee-jerk fashion to what they perceive to be oppositional posturing.
P.S. It was not really all that great, being the first time and all. I didnt' even crave a cigarette after the fact!!!
