A key point here is that the contributions resulted in benefits to the contributors.
To spell it out for DAV and his ilk, I can give money to a Senator, for example, HOPING he will then do something nice for me, and it is not illegal as long as he does NOT do that something nice. It is only when the donation is really a bribe, when it is payment for something the Senator would otherwise not have done, that it becomes an issue. The mere fact that a contribution was made is not proof of wrongdoing.
Remember this, because this is the defense Harry Reid is going to mount regarding the money he got from Abramoff associates and Abramoff-related Indian tribes. Harry's problem is, he has to convince us that when he did his favors on Monday and got the "donations" on Tuesday, they were not related.
In Mollohan's case, it seems clear that there was a quid pro quo, and that those who gave him money got something in return.
DeLay is not accused of taking bribes. He is accused of transferring unused contributions to another branch of the party, to benefit other politicians. Exactly as Pelosi and Reid, among many others, have done for years.
But good on you, DAV---you put two syllables together.
Posted by: Almiranta at April 22, 2006 01:42 PM
Almiranta,
And Dav is probably also not willing to discuss how many family members, friends and donors to Democratic politicians have received government grants via Democratic Congressmen...I can't recall exactly, but I think that one of Nancy Pelosi's kids got a bundle of money from the Defense Department after Nancy directed some business towards his firm....

Muirego,
Ah, but you won't find me standing behind a corrupt Republican...Libby and DeLay are merely caught in the grips of the Democratic smear machine.
What we've got here - and I've done a lot of research on this - is just one of scores of examples of Democrats reimbursing their friends, family members and supporters with taxpayer funds...its really funny how groups that donate to a Democrat's suddenly find themselves the beneficiary of earmarked grants of federal dollars...

It's neat when everything makes sense together and you don't have to step on your Gods toes, smash your children's future and subvert your country all while thinking you stood for patriotism, morality and truth.....stay with me bud...12 steps and I'll have you out of here.

Katherine Harris??? What are you claiming SHE did? Oh, that's right. First she read the laws of the State of Florida, as they applied to her job. And then she obeyed the law.
Now, in the Party of Relativism, that is evidently not acceptable. Just as Ken Starr was not supposed to the do the job assigned to him BY JANET RENO but was, evidently, supposed to act as judge and jury and make up his own mind about who did what, Katherine Harris was supposed to just ignore the statutes and do......what? I guess if she broke the law in your favor, that would be OK, but following the law when it doesn't favor you is wrong.
So very, very, strange......
So very, very, liberal.....
