The difference between any economy and this one is that the current "boom" is entirely funded on credit from foreign nations. It cannot last long
Likewise, personal debt is at an all time high and savings are at an all time low.
Now the American public is on the hook for $44 Trillion in promised payments to retirees and Iraq is costing $10 Billion a month.
So while you folks are still blaming everything on Clinton, who was more popular than Reagan, Bush41 and the 33% approval "decider" Bush 43, the foundation of our nations wealth has slipped away.

NOW tell me where I'm lying. Tell me why it is me who hates America when you are defending a President who has spent our future. Six years into President Clinton’s time in office, the stock market was more than double what it was when he became president. After six years of President Bush, the stock market is at approximately the same level it was when he took over. Most people would not consider that an accomplishment.
The number of jobs created under President Bush has not kept up with the number of people entering the work force, wages have not kept up with inflation, the number of people without health insurance has increased, the number of people living below the poverty level has increased, gas prices are at their highest levels, budget surpluses of hundreds of billions of dollars are now budget deficits of hundreds of billions of dollars, and Bush supporters consider this a great economy. I wonder what their idea of a bad economy is.

Posted by: muirgeo at April 21, 2006 12:09 AM
Muirgeo,
Show where you lied? I've done it before, don't mind doing it again,
First, you fiscal neophytes need to understand that a budget is static, while the debt and the deficit are dynamic. Do I need to explain the difference between the debt and the deficit? Another time, perhaps.
When Clinton sent 1998 the budget up, he used a 15 year projection of economic data because that showed the rosiest picture, why? Because it avoided the Social Security explosion which should begin to kill the economy around 2012. The simple fact is the economy didn’t perform to expectations so the debt grew faster than the Clintonistas anticipated. Servicing the debt cost much more than he budgeted and he actually ran a deficit of five billion for the fiscal year that ended in October of 1999.
The “surplus” you are all bragging about was the Social Security trust fund, and although Gore made noises about putting it in a “lock-box” which, as a Government Budget Analyst I find hilarious, the “surplus” was used to fund the outlandish promises in the budget and eventually was used to service the debt.
We heard Clinton, in his SOTU Address, “(We) can’t touch the Social Security Trust fund, it’s not the Government’s money!” almost the very next thing out of his mouth was, “We have a three trillion dollar surplus!” Nice trick; count the same money twice.
The budget deficit grew because of the WTC, Clinton's recession which began in May 2001 before the Bush Whitehouse proposed its first budget, two wars, and several natural disasters.
I fully expect that your attention span gave out a few sentences ago, but, chew on this, if Clinton had responded to any of the repeated attacks on the US overseas, al Qaeda would not have been emboldened to attack us on 9-11 and there wouldn't be a deficit.
Posted by: Bane of Liberals' Existence at April 21, 2006 12:14 AM
I hate deficits...except when we're at war (check FDR's deficit to GDP ratio sometime...it'll make even the most die hard lefty cringe) and when we're in recession...which we were, and thanks in part to W's tax cuts, we're not.
Let's not forget that little wind storm we had called..uh..what was it...oh, yeah, KATRINA, only one of THE WORST natural disasters in our nation's history.
More importantly, I hate deficits when they are a high percent of our GNP...which, unfortunately for the Left...once again, they're not.
Make the tax cuts permanent...keep the progress, watch the tax revenues increase...and once the war is over, watch the deficit disapear.
Posted by: John at April 21, 2006 12:24 AM
It's all part of Karl Rove's plan -- Rove Rage -- for the Democrats!
Run up the deficit before Democrats get in power and try to do the same thing in order to fund their liberal welfare and government bureaucracy programs. And where does that leave Democrats?
If Democrats run on reducing the national debt, where are they going to get the massive amounts of money to fund their liberal programs? A dilemma! If they cut their welfare programs to reduce the deficit, that would alienate the millions of welfare recipients whose votes they must "buy" with government handouts. Not good. If they run on raising taxes to reduce the deficit, that would alienate middle and upper income Americans and cost votes. Not good. If they don't raise taxes on the wealthy to reduce the deficit, that would alienate their base. Not good. If they do raise taxes on the wealthy to reduce the deficit, the economy and gross revenues may decline and increase the deficit. Not good.
If they run on cutting defense spending and cutting funding to the war on terror, they would appear to be weak on defense, fighting terror, and America's security. Not good. If they don't cut defense spending, they alienate their base. Not good.
If they switch their economic philosophy and actually reduce taxes to stimulate our "weak" economy, that's what conservatives want anyway. If they can't or don't make the economy run even better, they've failed. Not good. If the economy actually declines, they've failed even worse. Not good.
If the stock market increases even more, that's what conservatives want anyway. If the stock market declines, they've failed, the economy declines, tax revenues decline, the deficit increases, and they are to blame. Not good.
Looks like the Dims may have a few "problems" to work on before they even think about withdraw our troops from Iraq... which they can't without allowing the terrorists to take over there. Not good again!
Promises, promises, promises. How will the Dims keep them all?

Bane you want to debate who did more to protect us from terrorism PRE 9-11? I'll mop the floor with you. Clinton-Gore did a LOT more . Bush Cheney did ZERO including ignoring the he Hart-Rudman Commission report. BUSH DID NOTHING!!!
"Bush administration officials told former Sens. Gary Hart, D-Colo., and Warren Rudman, R-N.H., that they preferred instead to put aside the recommendations issued in the January report by the U.S. Commission on National Security/21st Century. Instead, the White House announced in May that it would have Vice President Dick Cheney study the potential problem of domestic terrorism -- which the bipartisan group had already spent two and a half years studying -- while assigning responsibility for dealing with the issue to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, headed by former Bush campaign manager Joe Allbaugh.
The Hart-Rudman Commission had specifically recommended that the issue of terrorism was such a threat it needed far more than FEMA's attention."

I've tried to be positive with moonbats, and get them out of their self inflicted funk. But you are welcome to be as negative as you like, it's a shame you force those ideas onto your children. I am a positive thinking person and try to promote that in my children & grandchildren.
If you want to give back to your country try helping somewhere, instead of being like the obstructionism that is shown in congress. I have yet to see you post any 'helpful' information, only hatred for Bush. How does that help anything?
Be positive for something for a change, promote Gore, Kerry, Clinton or Dean. But it's time you got off that negative binge you are on. Bush is the elected leader -- get over it --. Quit being a sore loser, it is not becoming and sets a bad example for your children.

I teach them greatness of our country, the importance of good leaders, and how we are all interdependent on each other as a society. I teach them about the global community and how all the countries are also interdependent. Since I'm an atheist I teach them about all the religions, about evolution and the evidence that we are the products of a giant Proto-star that formed all the Earthly elements. I teach them how important science and objective thinking is. I teach them of the wonders of nature and to have respect for nature. I teach them empathy towards other creatures of the Earth. I teach them how incredibly fortunate we are to be alive and to never take any day for granted.
I teach them the dangers of hate, greed, selfishness and being self centered. That has to do with science. You might want to read about. Very interesting. Elements from helium to iron to Uranium are formed in the pressure and heat generated inside huge stars. They take karate to defend themselves but know to always always walk away from a fight but and use their skills only when absolutely needed for defense. I tell them I think his policies make the rich richer while the working class gains little and that his policies are short sighted.
I tell them that they already owe several thousands of dollars each to the government because of the war and so that super rich people can have a little more. I tell them how money, greed and power corrupts the markets and our democracy and how Bush's policy facilitate these things. I also tell them that I think the president is not too smart and that they could probably beat him in a checkers match. And I tell them to judge a person based on his actions and not what he says or what his title is.
I tell them the most important thing a citizen of our great country can do is to hold its elected officials to the same high standards they keep for themselves because if they do not then democracy will fail.

I could have sworn the WTC was attacked under Clinton Gore after more than 8 months on the job. The Khobar towers after more than 8 months on the job. The USS Cole after more than 8 months on the job.
I could have sworn that Bin Laden was literally given to Clinton on a silver platter and Clinton blew it not once, but TWICE in not taking him out.

Looks like muirgeo forgot there is a war on. Guess they don't report that in his town. Probably the same town where a strong economy is reported only when a donk is in the White House. Spare us your huffing and puffing and feigned outrage. You don’t do it very well.
morongeo, you're the irrational, unhinged, moonbat who hates America and spews all the talking points Dingy Harry and Nan Piglosi feed you.
It was a projected surplus, over TEN !@#$% YEARS, you twit! Now sod off!!!
Porter,
Yeah the war of choice explains 0.5 trillion. How about the other 1.7 trillion. And for that 0.5 war trillion we bought a new hotbed of terrorist training...GREEEAT JOB Mr Decider in Chief.....but yeah I'm the MOONBAT....and you are the sane rationalizer.
For anyone who didn't already realize that keefer will lie with out shame here is more proof of the poor fool's lying ability........keefer is an example of the type of un-American dweeb that supports such a corrupt administration.
This is from the CBO....see page two...last column......that's keefer caught lying...you pathetic warped sad old nutbag

muirgeo: Glad to see you are coming around to our way of thinking. Must be all the thrashing you take in here. Yes you are a moonbat, say it over and over. No one take you or any of the other donks who pee all over the floor here seriously. You are just jerks, amusing, yes, but jerks just the same.
Porter,
Good job rebutting each of my factual statements....yep I'm a moonbat and you're a REAL smart guy. No way could I keep up with your "fact based" counter points. Uncle..UNCLE...I give up you are TOO SMART for me...you said moonbat, donks and jerks all in one post...way past my debate capabilities.
Muirgeo,
Show where you lied?
AAR
Bane,
Anyone can look at the CBO pdf I linked to and see that social security is included in calculating public debt. I guess you assume your fellow cons are too stupid or too dishonest to reveal your deception and lack of honesty.
Do guys like you believe your own lies? Or do you simply think its ok to lie just to try convincing the other kool aide drinkers that you've made a point....must suck being you.
..... chew on this, if Clinton had responded to any of the repeated attacks on the US overseas, al Qaeda would not have been emboldened to attack us on 9-11 and there wouldn't be a deficit.

After six years of President Bush, the stock market is at approximately the same level it was when he took over. Most people would not consider that an accomplishment." ~Brian
Hey moron...did you forget about 9/11 that crashed everything? I guess only history that pertains to the liberal views is the only history that matters...
Do any of you know what the business cycle is? Basically, beyond taxes, the executive branch has very little say in what happens to the economy.
Dave,
You little whiner. 9-11 happened on Bushes watch. See post above about how he did NOTHING including ignoring the Hart-Rudman report. You don't get to pick and choose......take some responsibility for your presidents actions or lack there of. Brians statement still stands as FACT in spite of your excuse making.....its always funny to see what excuses you Bushbot apologist come up to cover for you inept pitiful Decider-in-Cheif. God next time please please please give us a president who is at least as smart as me next time...this guy is a total dope.
Muirgeo you seem to forget that ALL of the planning for 9/11 took place BEFORE President Bush took office, and it was inspired by Clinton's humiliating defeat and withdrawl from Mogidishu, along with the Khobar Towers bombing, the bombing of two US embassies and the bombing of the USS Cole to which the CLinton/Gore administration DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING you pathetic koolaid drinker!@!!
Hey you moonbats, keep up your banter about how bad it is in 'your world'. I've gotta run and take some profits today and then re-invest in some more movers and shakers. See you later losers!!
dl,
Yeah its all about you isn't it? As if you're doing this with out help from the government and your fellow lesser off citizens. You ignorant selfish slob. You're a short sighted fool. When your country crashes around you the markets and your stocks won't be worth much in a Road Warrior society. Trust me pal you aren't getting wealthy on your own. Many other hard working Americans are supporting you and this productive society without being able to benefit from the stock market like you and me.
I'm 45 and could retire tomorrow with an income of $70,000 a year from my savings....I don't need any more wealth now I'm just looking to get my kids through collage and seeing how I can give back to my country. It's not all about you Jack!
Muirgeo,
Just like your convoluted reasoning on global warming you are in over your head. I’ll try to make this real simple for you; If the Social Security Trust Fund is included in the Debt calculation, how can that be a surplus? The Social Security Trust Fund is not a government asset.
Damn, you’re thick!
muirgeo, maybe you're old enough to remember the muppet movie song. "Life's like a movie, write your own ending." Teach your kids to hate, and throw rocks at tanks and see the results of your hatred.

Stop - stop you're killing me, I haven't laughed this hard since Hilary made ten thousand percent return on cattle futures!
dL,
I teach my kids the importance of being responsible, kind, fair and hard working. I teach them the dangers of greed, selfishness and being self centered. I teach them what money really is all about. Paying for a meal at a restaurant is NOT enough you need to thank the chefs and the people who served you.
I tell them how much I love them and how the most important thing in the world to me is their future and how they give me a moral compass that says that everything I do must ultimately be with an eye toward the future and trying my best to leave the world a better place for them.

What do you teach your children?
Muirgeo what do you teach them about President Bush?
Do you teach them that politics ends at the border? Do you teach them that in a democratic system change of governments are brought about at the voting box? Do you teach them about the founding of out country and the personal sacrfices of those who formed the country, have fought to keep it free and continue to defend freedom around the world. Do you teach tham about the evils of communism and stateism? Do you teach them that all that you have and that they have is a result of our capitialsitic democratic system?
OBTW: What's this about evidence that we are the products of a giant Proto-star that formed all the Earthly elements? I was with you until then.
muirgeo - keep your stories straight please.
religious.atheist.I think you're an outright liar, and you just proved it to us in the same thread.
Sounds like your a waiter or chef and haven't been thanked lately.
Maybe it's time for you to retire on that $70,000 a year savings you have.OBTW: What's this about evidence that we are the products of a giant Proto-star that formed all the Earthly elements? I was with you until then.

That has to do with science. You might want to read about. Very interesting. Elements from helium to iron to Uranium are formed in the pressure and heat generated inside huge stars. Cosmological evidence suggest initially there was a huge proto star that blew up and formed all the elements in our solar system and ultimately you, me and the Earth. Fasinating...we truly are star dust....
Muirgeo what do you teach them about President Bush?
Posted by: phnxbmed at April 21, 2006 01:16 PM
I tell them what I think. I tell them I think his policies are dangerous to the future, that he is an ignorant man, that he shuns science, that he went to war unnecassarily ( I've show them pictures of kids with no arms or parents) and tell them war should always always be a last resort.
I tell them the most important thing a citizen of our great country can do is to hold its elected officials to the same high standards they keep for themselves because if they do not then democracy will fail.

dl,
Stop being petty. I'm an atheist and the use of the word God is simply a figure of speech.
Right,
Like "lying, pandering, sophistrite” is a figure of speech.
Mark,
Please explain how Clinton caused the dot-com bust. After that, please explain how President Bush, in all of his economic wisdom, would have prevented it.
thanks.
Mark,
Please explain how Clinton caused the dot-com bust. After that, please explain how President Bush, in all of his economic wisdom, would have prevented it.

Muirgeo, I think, your thinking that you and your kids being smarter that Bush is a mistake. Gore and Kerry both made that same fatal mistake. Keep on making that same mistake, keep believing those same polls and keep on that same losing streak you are on --- because 'you think' you are smarter.
That's one thing Bush is good at --- whuppin up on those smarty pants types! Makes me smile just thinking of that frenchy looking Kerry goin down the drain.
Bush sez "Bring it on ‹(•¿•)› you smarties you"!
Murigo, are you kidding me?
9/11 happened about 8 months into the Bush Presidency. You're comparing what happened in the first 8 months of a presidency to all of the failings on terrorism that Clinton Gore had in 8 years.
Are you serious?
I could have sworn the WTC was attacked under Clinton Gore after more than 8 months on the job. The Khobar towers after more than 8 months on the job. The USS Cole after more than 8 months on the job.
I could have sworn that Bin Laden was literally given to Clinton on a silver platter and Clinton blew it not once, but TWICE in not taking him out.
Your history is quite interesting Murigo. Quite.
Warrior,
Tell me what actions Bush took before 9-11 to prevent terrorist attacks?
The only action he took was to do NOTHING and he ignored the Hart-Rudman report. In place of responding to the report he had Cheney assemble a task force WHICH NEVER MET EVEN ONCE.
Here's what Clinton/Gore did......
Commissioned the Hart-Rudman report and see the following.
