Another "Tolerant" Liberal

Is this what it means to be a liberal? Threatening violence and/or death to those who disagree with you?

A Purdue University graduate student was arrested and charged with threatening to kill President George W. Bush, Laura Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Vikram Buddhi allegedly posted the detailed and threatening messages on an online message board.

What happen to tolerance, diversity, and anti-violence? And, no, I'm not using this story to generalize liberals. However, from personal experience I can say liberals are far less tolerant than conservatives when it comes to opposing views. Even when it comes to blogs, I've heard plenty of stories of conservatives trying to post their viewpoints on places like Democratic Underground or Daily Kos, only to be deleted and banned. Here at B4B, we let any viewpoint be published in the comment threads (as long as it is appropriate), and with some exceptions, it works very well and encourages debate and lively discussion.

In the past few years when I've displayed my politics publicly, either on any of my blogs or at a protest, or casually in a public place, I've experienced threats of violence, death threats, and other forms of intimidation. I've been told that I "should die" for supporting Bush or that I'm going to hell. These tolerant liberals also have accused me and other conservative friends of mine of being homosexuals, or Nazis (ever heard of a Jewish Nazi?) I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

When a liberal tries to claim their party is the party of tolerance and diversity, I just laugh. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has stories like this of these so-called "tolerant" liberals reacting to their conservative views.

How do you know this guy is a "liberal"?

Posted by: Tom Shipley [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 18, 2006 02:18 PM

Tom, think about it.

Matt, we shouldn't forget the racist cartoons the left made about Condi. Americans should be deathly afraid of the left ever returning to power.

Posted by: Bret Helm at April 18, 2006 02:28 PM

Is Timothy McVeigh an example of what it means to be a conservative?

Please don't take extreme nutcases and try to associate them normal folks who happen to have an opposing political view from yours.

Posted by: extramedium [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 18, 2006 02:39 PM

And who says our Colleges and Universities aren't graduating students with "Higher Education"? Looks like they're only doing what their lefty professors or advocating.

Posted by: DeWaun at April 18, 2006 02:41 PM

This is a trick neocons do all the time. Forget all the conservative nut jobs, one liberal mental case and they condemn all liberals. Grasping at straws. LOL.

Posted by: Canadian Observer at April 18, 2006 02:46 PM

What about the death threats made against the students who protested military recruitment at Santa Cruz? Is that what it means to be a conservative?

Posted by: PM at April 18, 2006 02:53 PM

I have thought about it, Bret.

"In the various messages posted, Buddhi urged the Web site’s readers to bomb the United States and for them to rape American and British women and mutilate them, according to court documents. Other messages called for the killing of all Republicans."

This doesn't sound like a liberal to me. It sounds like someone who hates the United States, and more specifically the actions of the current administration.

This guy is from India. He has obvious problems with the United States, specifically the actions of the current administration. It also looks like he's a bit mentally unstable. But I don't see anything in this story that would suggest he's a "liberal." I know a lot of engineering students and even a few from Purdue, and to be honest, they are mostly convservative.

The attempt to paint this guy as somehow representing liberals is rediculous, Matt.

"This doesn't sound like a liberal to me. It sounds like someone who hates the United States, and more specifically the actions of the current administration."

In other words, like Bill Clinton? Ref: his various speeches denouncing America (e.g., the speech at Georgetown U.)

Or, the various Hollywood scum like Alec Baldwin who wanted to flee to France when Pscho Al didn't win in 2000?

Posted by: Bret Helm at April 18, 2006 03:43 PM

All violence is wrong and counter-productive. Only the Right wages war. Peace

Posted by: steve at April 18, 2006 04:09 PM

Shipley
Do you think the UCSanta Cruz folks are conservatives? If they rant and carry on nonsense, they are liberals, trust me. If intolerant, liberals. If "antiwar" but violent only towards those saving their rears, Liberals. A very disgusting bunch.

Peace.

Posted by: SEW at April 18, 2006 04:10 PM

Tom Shipley,

He didn't call for the killing of all Democrats, while calling for the killing of all Republicians, therefore we assume that he is a liberal. Maybe our assumption is wrong, but the available evidence would indicate that he has leftist leanings.

Posted by: A-10 [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 18, 2006 04:21 PM

Hmmmm - yet again, more propaganda BS from B4B. Their motto - "at all costs, claim anyone who does anything bad is a liberal, and how all liberals are worthless and evil."

VERY tolerant, Matt. I just have to laugh at your obvious disregerad for facts and immediate villification of those who do not share your views. How VERY tolerant.

Why is the man who made these threats automatically a Liberal. it was never stated in your post, you just assume it because you have a ludicrious hatred for liberals.

This man was a nutcase, REGARDLESS of his political views. Stop this BS Matt, and Mark, and all of you here at B4B. Stop making Liberals responsible for all the world's evils and start taking action to understand that even Conservatives do bad things.

Most of all, learn to read and represent FACTS, not your own brainwashed propaganda.

Posted by: Robert at April 18, 2006 04:26 PM

I don't think its clear what his politics are other than anti-american.

But it does seem more than likely that his irrational behavior and hatred are in no small way influenced by the Anti-Bush, anti-american rants of the left wing kooks in this country and on his campus. Couple that with the daily barrage of insults, invectives, condemnation and unsubstantiated charges hurled at the President by the MSM and the defeatocrats and you have the perfect environment to trigger the marginally sane to go over the edge.

SEW, are you saying that liberals sent these emails?

http://saw.revolt.org/node/51

Posted by: Garrett Fitzgerald [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 18, 2006 05:15 PM

Scratch a liberal and you will find a fascist underneath each and every time. Just look at their reaction to the past two federal elections.

Peace, on our terms.

Posted by: GOP 4 ME [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 18, 2006 05:32 PM

Thankfully, Bret has helped our discourse greatly with his tolerant words of "scum" and "pscho" [sic].

Posted by: Michael at April 18, 2006 05:39 PM

Garrett,
No, I didn't say that liberals sent those emails. Those seem well thought out, and the Santa Cruz folks would never save anyones rear other than their own, and only then by fleeing. You don't want to be in a foxhole with a liberal or Frenchman, even if they fell in while cut and running.

However it is nice that the liberals are pushing us to war with Iran by demonstrating their negotiate only stick. 06 elections again will have OBL et al praising Allah for the Dem candidates.

Peace.

Someone said "Please don't take extreme nutcases..."
The problem I see is that so many on the left sound like this student. It makes it real hard to differentiate who a nut case is when so many do. Sorry.

Porter please provide other examples of those on the left who advocate the killing of the president and other people in the administration and call for the raping of American women.

Tom, you may be right this time.

Buddhi told investigators he posted the message, along with other derogatory messages aimed at the president
Buddhi was arrested Friday and told investigators he is not suffering from any mental illnesses nor is he taking any illegal or prescription drugs.
He may not be a liberal, but he is a Moonbat, and suffers from Bush Derangement Syndrome like so many liberals that come here to post.

How can we recognize these dangerous Moonbats, and not classify them like the others? I have seen several houses around the country have signs posted that say "Kill Bush". Do you think these signs should be allowed?

You won't go off the deep end like he did will you Tom?

Posted by: dl [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 18, 2006 06:41 PM

Tom: Well, one comes to mind every time you donks ask for proof; Alex Baldwin on Letterman suggested killing the House managers and their families during the Clinton impeachment.

Posted by: Porter Jervis [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 18, 2006 07:04 PM

Oh Tom just though of anther, Ben Affleck said Bush should be hanged, just this weekend.

This was an interesting article about Threatening the President.

"...Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both."
Sounds to me like this Vikram Buddhi "Moonbat" is guilty. How many more moonbats are going to follow in his steps if they do not set an example with him?

Isn't this Bush Blogs? Can we talk about Bush?

Posted by: Zirk Mcgirk at April 18, 2006 07:24 PM

Just to jump back a bit: "Even when it comes to blogs, I've heard plenty of stories of conservatives trying to post their viewpoints on places like Democratic Underground or Daily Kos, only to be deleted and banned."

I was banned three times, full IP bans, from John Kerry's official forum, for daring to ask why I should vote for Kerry, for asking what Kerry could do for me (politely), and for daring to mention that I really liked Kerry's environmental plans and that I was a republican. No one wanted to talk about anything other then Bush.

Posted by: William Teach [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 18, 2006 07:29 PM

Is Timothy McVeigh an example of what it means to be a conservative?

No, more like Dennis "BTK killer" Rader. There's a good churchgoing Republican.

See how easy it is to use charicatures and extremists to smear half the country? I'm guessing such satire is lost on most of the audience here, though.

Posted by: SeesThroughIt at April 18, 2006 09:58 PM

That was exactly my point in my post yesterday:

http://www.floppingaces.net/?p=1536

About Malkin's latest dustup, and boy did I get a ear full from the lefties. This is typical behavior from these loons.

Posted by: Curt at April 18, 2006 10:06 PM

Many liberals are very uset at the misuse of their beliefs to attack Bush.

As for Jewish Nazis, didn't you see "Inside Man"?

Posted by: JohnJ at April 18, 2006 11:08 PM

SEW:
I see. When conservatives threaten violence and/or death, it's a well-thought-out argument.

It's all so clear now.

Your wishes for peace are gratefully accepted and returned, but as long as Bush and his neocon friends are running things, I don't think we'll be lucky enough to see it.
