Back in 2004, John Kerry won San Francisco by a vote of 296,772 to President Bush's 54,355. That is 83% to 15% (2% went to other candidates). After you get over your surprise that there are more than 54,000 Republicans in San Francisco, what you are left with is the realisation that San Francisco isn't exactly Bush Country. They don't like the guy much there...if there's a place in America where you should be able to gin up a pretty good anti-Bush turnout, San Francisco is the place...but here's what happened Saturday:
One of the biggest protests was in San Francisco, for decades a hub of anti-war sentiment. Police there estimated the crowd gathered outside City Hall at about 6,000 people. Many chanted slogans opposing Bush, and most appeared to hail from a distinctly grayer demographic than that of other protest events.
''There are not enough young people here,'' said Paul Perchonock, 61, a physician. ''They don't see themselves as having a stake.''
One of the biggest protests was only 6,000 strong? In San Francisco!?!?! Geesh! And by the report it seems just a bunch of ageing hippies...people who showed up for the Summer of Love back in '67 and never grew up and got jobs.
What people say, what people do - if the people of San Francisco can't bestir themselves to slam President Bush on the third anniversary of the liberation of Iraq, what will the not-quite-so-fanatic lefties elsewhere in the country do this November?

Squiggler linked with San Francisco anti-war rally a "grey" event
Yesterday, B4B had an article on the recent anti-war rally held in San Francisco. We learn that for a city that is dominated by the peaceniks, this rally was a paltry gathering of mostly grey-haired aging hippies left over from their glory days of the ...

The real protest will happen in November. The Rubber Stamp Republicans that have enabled the worst president in history will be thrown out.
Let's hope Americans have learned their lesson about the culture of corruption that has taken over Washington at the hands of the G.O.P.

Wade,
You say so - but you'd think that the people who hate Bush would have a better showing on this third anniversary.

Actually, I am not surprised that it is a graying protest movement. All polls that I have seen show that the younger generation does have a stake and want democracy spread. As for rubber stamp republicans, show me the places where you are going to pick up the seats. Trust me, the base will still be energized because they don't trust the demos.

I attended the counter-demonstration "Operation Recruit Guard" in Tucson Saturday (pictures begin here, 20 in all). Our side had over 100 protecting the military recruitment offices near the campus of the University of Arizona.
When the protesters showed up, their enthusiasm was, shall we say, lacking. The only relatively entertaining attraction on their side was some dance being performed by a small group of Native Americans. The rest of them (I'd say about 200 in all) basically stood around, stone-faced...gee, I wonder if there's any basis for that?
So yeah, I can personally attest to the measly response by the Left for this particular anniversary.

I marched in the Chicago protest. The estimate of protesters was 7,000. I marched with protesters both young and old.
During the course of the two+ mile march, I saw maybe five counter protesters. Which leads to my question, how many attended the pro bush rallies (200)? Way to support the war effort righties.

It is so refreshing to finally see Blarney come clean about his true political affiliations. The whole "but I am a moderate" sham just flew out the window with his (or is it her?) latest post.
Secondly, the reason we "righties" are not out marching in support of President Bush and our courageous military is because we have something most of you on the treacherous and disloyal left lack. What is that you may ask?
Simple. It's called a job.

JOB 4 ME, righteous. I am perpetually amused by the "centrist" and "independent" types that luv to bray about their "pox on both" virginality. As per usual, it is a pose merely. Sorry Barney, whether you know it or not (and you do) you are a doctrinaire commie, no more. Saddam is a big Stalin fan of course. You? Whatever. These demos don't mean much except to the people there. I do like to go and goof on these witless wonders sometimes. Believe it or not the ignorant amoralists that turn up around here are actually the cream of this crop. Sad, sad state of affairs.

Barney and Friends marching in protest...nothing like a bunch of unbathed liberals marching down a street. The stench must have been overcoming to most.
Meanwhile, conservatives were probably working or doing productive things during that time.
Did you tip over any cars Barney? Did you scream "DOWN WITH THE RICH" or any of the other wonderful WTO comments that come from you guys?
