Yesterday, U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA), a member of the Defense Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement regarding Senator Russ Feingold's attempt last night to censure the President for conducting surveillance on communications with al-Qaeda.
"The fact that the Senate Democratic Leadership has failed to call this stunt what it is - political grandstanding - is outrageous. Senator Feingold's actions today reaffirm that the Democratic Party is more interested in playing politics than coming up with their own ideas.
"Do Democrats have another way to monitor surveillance on communications with al-Qaeda? Do Democrats have a better way to protect Americans from another terrorist attack?"
"Of course they don't, that's why Democrats are always willing to heckle the starting quarterback from the cheap seats but they are never willing to get in the game themselves.
"Not one Democrat has offered an amendment or a bill to repeal this important national security program. They like to harp about it at Democrat fund raisers and at red meat partisan clubs but when it comes to actually trying to stop it they don't have the guts. Once you get past their left wing rhetoric, even their own members know this is a vital program."
Apparently,
Feingold went running from the Senate yesterday to avoid any more embarrassment over his censure resolution.
Rep. Marsha Blackburn also had a great one-minute speech on the Feingold censure attempt:
Mr. Speaker --
Ten days ago Democratic Senators were calling President Bush weak on national security.
Now they're seeking to censure him for being too aggressive in going after terrorists.
Congressional Democrats have no serious plan for national security.
Oh, they have a plan to use the security issue in their campaigns.
They have a plan to try and kill strong anti-terrorism measures like the Patriot Act.
But they have no plan for actually securing our homeland.
Instead of supporting the Patriot Act, instead of supporting the intelligence community's work to monitor phone calls that could yield information that will save American lives -- Senate Democrats are going to push a motion to censure the President.
If they're pushing this censure in order to distract from the fact that they don't have a security plan -- it's not working.
No, it's not working... I've certainly noticed that the Democrats have done a lot of complaining without any proposing of anything new. Imagine, Democrats think they'll regain a majority in Congress without offering anything resembling leadership. Ha!

To me it's this bit that is key:
"Not one Democrat has offered an amendment or a bill to repeal this important national security program. They like to harp about it at Democrat fund raisers and at red meat partisan clubs but when it comes to actually trying to stop it they don't have the guts. Once you get past their left wing rhetoric, even their own members know this is a vital program."
Again, put up or shut up. If what he's doing is illegal and wrong sue! Change the law. What ever it takes. So far it's not happening and it's nothing more than hot air.

Not one Democrat has offered an amendment or a bill to repeal this important national security program.
That falls under the heading of all bark all the time
One would think that at least one of the Dems would have some backbone to offer an amendment that all the liberals that come here and defend.
nope, none, nada, zilch, zip, zero

Feingold reminds me of Murtha, in that they were setup and then abandoned by the entire party. Where is our Jean Schmidt to put the entire senate in time out like she did for the house by calling Murtha a "Cut & Run" ex marine that knew better.
Every now and then, Murtha's cut & run plan is mentioned, like in the future they'll talk about censuring the president, and it will be mentioned as if it were a done deal.
Little spineless democrats taking a potshot at the back of the president while he squares off directly at the enemy, doing everything he can to defeat terrorist.
Pathetic, the party of no plan... attacking a president during a time of war... and giving the enemy hope that they will weaken or destroy Bush.
What these cowards do they are doing in broad daylight for the world to see... How pathetic these democrats are... The president does not attack them, as he has a real war and enemy to contend with, and the democrats are just not that important.

"Clinton lied about having sex with that girl and was impeached.
Some one tell me in a non-Orwellian way why this is not a lie...an impeachable lie?"
Then try to impeach him simple as that - will not go anywhere but hey! Democrat leadership is free to be dumber than a box of rocks anytime they want, and I for one encourage them to be just that dumb. I will actually beg if it helps!
Never get in the way with someone shooting themselves in the foot. So try to impeach away, I will not get in the way of your foot. There, now you can sleep all nice tonight
psst Clinton lied under oath - huge difference between raising your right hand and lying outright, to someone saying what they have been told is accurate. Big, huge LEGAL difference. so just to make sure we are clear, I am encouraging Democrats with any backbone, to try and at the very minimum censure Bush
Please, Please, Please try? Told you I would beg.

muirgeo,
Its not a lie because President Bush was talking about the necessity of US law enforcement to get a court order for a wiretap and how the PATRIOT ACT allowed for roving wiretaps...
This is a completely different subject from the NSA's signals intelligence program.
And, I know, you don't have a clue about the difference and aren't interested in learning what the difference is....

Ummm, perhaps because this illegal program was not based on an act of congress?

Once again, it must be pointed out that both the House and Senate Intelligence Committees were aware of this program for YEARS, and that the leadership of Congress, both Democrat and Republican were regularly briefed regarding the NSA activities.
In all this time, not ONE Senator or Representative brought this program up. That's rather interesting since now the cry from the Democrats is that the NSA program is 'illegal'. If it was illegal, then surely at least one person would've brought this up in front of the full Senate or House; or even publically disclosed the program if they felt that it was illegal.
The only person who expressed 'reservations' was Rockefeller, who wrote a letter which he never sent, and pulled it out of his rear when he felt he could get the most political mileage out of it.
Yet, even he has not proposed legislation to stop the NSA program.

Quoting Rep. Kingston:
"Not one Democrat has offered an amendment or a bill to repeal this important national security program.
NOBODY -- including Russ Feingold -- wants to repeal any NSA programs to spy on terrorists. NOBODY.
George Bush is violating the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act -- a criminal statute. Spying on terrorists is entirely supported by everybody, including congressional Democrats, and including Russ Feingold. But there exist, as a matter of law, procedural protections to prevent abuse, and they are not discretionary. By statute, they are mandatory.
George Bush has admitted that he is conducting his surveillance activities -- which everybody approves of -- in a manner that violates the law. It is the illegality of how Bush is spying, not the spying per se, for which Feingold rightfully seeks to censure George Bush.

Then by your 'reasoning', Reid, Rockefeller, and all other Democrats who were aware of and regularly briefed on the NSA program are criminally guilty as well, since they aided and kept silent about this 'illegal' program.
