A Tale of Two Sensitivities

Mark Steyn, taking note of the anti-Danish riots over a few badly drawn picture, points out just how schizophrenic the west has become as it deals with Islamo-fascism:

NBC is celebrating Easter this year with a special edition of the gay sitcom "Will & Grace," in which a Christian conservative cooking-show host, played by the popular singing slattern Britney Spears, offers seasonal recipes -- "Cruci-fixin's." On the other hand, the same network, in its coverage of the global riots over the Danish cartoons, has declined to show any of the offending artwork out of "respect" for the Muslim faith.

Which means out of respect for their ability to locate the executive vice president's home in the suburbs and firebomb his garage.

I'd really like to have some respect for my Christian faith - you know, that thing in which the crucifixion of Christ is a central element in the salvation of mankind...perhaps not something to be a silly, on-off sitcom joke. But, I know I won't get it - being anti-Christian is the socially acceptable bigotry, and the left - and its MSM megaphone - won't let it go. Ever.

In our bizarre modern world, we are to be sensitive to the transgendered and to the Islamo-fascists who would behead them...the Christians who would neither be transgendered nor do anything to someone who was are, meanwhile, to be cast into outter darkness. I'd say lets toss the left and the Islamo-fascists on to a deserted island and let them fight it out, but we know who'd win...and, all in all, I still prefer hand-wringing lefties to bloodthirsty Islamo-fascist tyrants. Still, it is a bit galling that it is Believers who will win this war against Islamo-fascism so that non-believers can continue to be rude to Believers.

Leftist Christian that I am, this "Cruci-fixin's" is very offensive. I would have to see it in the context of the show to pass any judgement, but it certainly seems pretty rotten.

Islam is an evil religon, it ist the faith of Satan. We must stop them now.

I am never surprised by those who persecute Christians. I am surprised by Hollywood and the liberals that embrace terrorism and Islamofascism. I remember Hollywood in the good old days as being patriotic. The canteens that catered to the military staffed by Hollywood stars. The actors and actresses going across the USA selling war bonds. I am very fortunate to have seen the greatest generation. I am very fortunate to have lived at a time when your Christian faith was respected and not ridiculed. I will continue to live in the Bible belt where patriotism is alive and well. Where faith in God sustains you and moral and values guide you.
One of the great things about America is that you can now email and tell your friends and family to boycott NBC and their antiChristian shows. There are still millions of faith based people out there. And we love a challenge.

In the words of Jesus:

Turn the other cheek.

Besides if you did some additional research into the situation regarding the show, you would know that NBC issued a press release saying that the show had yet to be written and te information was released in an innacurate press release that was not properly vetted. They further said all that had been decided was that Speares would play a central role in an episode that aired sometime in April.

It's all here:

Honestly, have you seen the show?

Do you think that with such bad writing that it could even be written a week in advance?

The point is is that we are quick to respect other religions and their fascist radicals but when it comes to Christianity the MSM and the social culture turn a blind eye.

It amazes me too Mark that that is socially acceptable to continually persecute us! Keep focused on the goal is all I can say.

the diff is that we don't get torqued-up over satire probably due to our long history of a free press. and, we most likely have many more secular humanists in our society relative to the total pop.

these folks are back down the time-line trough, free press wise.

Hi there,

I fell sorry for everybody living in free countries and all peacefull Muslims, but what we now have to watch is radical "Muslims" desperat attempt to stop Islam reform itself to a secular religion.

I'm Danish, and would like to clarify things a bit.

In Denmark we have a long tradition for satirical drawings. Since religion in Denmark is regarded fairly much as a private matter, we often make fun of religious icons. At one point a Danish artist depicted Jesus on the cross with an erect penis. Imagine what would happen if someone did something similar to a Muslim icon like Mohammad!

In this case, the drawings of Mohammad was published with the intent of starting a debate on self censorship and freedom of speech, when the issue is related to Islam and Muslims. A relevant debate, I think...

Now, Jyllands Posten - the newspaper that published the drawings - is indeed a right-wing liberal newspaper. However the term "right-wing" here in Denmark is perhaps not what you'd expect from ex. an American point of view: Right-wing here is basically just conservative.

A delegation of local Muslim leaders, with the Danish Muslim leader Abu-Laban (he's banned in Egypt, because they regard him as a terrorist, btw) in front then visited a bunch of countries in the Muslim world, to speak their case.

They brought with them the 12 drawings plus a bunch of other drawings and photos, wich noone really know how they came about, since they we're certainly not printed in any Danish newspaper.

It seems to me, that this hole case now basically is living a life of it's own, that not really is about these 12 drawings, so much as it is a case of cultures clashing.

What puzzles me, however, is the fact that Denmark for the past 25 years has been one of the main contributors in the efforts of creating a sovereign state of Palestine.

The Danish government has helped financially, politically and in all sorts of other ways. We have granted asylum to a massive amount of palestinians, and even tjetjen muslim rebels (to the clearly expressed dissatisfaction of the Russians).

So Itīs not Denmark or the Danish who having a problem, itīs the frre world and democracy!!!

Mohammed was a whoremonger and a false prophet.

"I fell sorry for everybody living in free countries and all peacefull Muslims, but what we now have to watch is radical "Muslims" desperat attempt to stop Islam reform itself to a secular religion."

I really do hope you'll review what you said and discover one of the reasons these people have rioted.

"The Danish government has helped financially, politically and in all sorts of other ways. We have granted asylum to a massive amount of palestinians, and even tjetjen muslim rebels (to the clearly expressed dissatisfaction of the Russians)."

Same as above. And I do indeed hope you enjoy harboring and supporting terrorists from a terrorist nations that even fellow muslims do not really support.

Posted by: Jonathan [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 6, 2006 12:20 PM

Who are the tjetjen muslim rebels?

I don't see them listed as a terrorist group anywhere. Is this the Danish word for them?

Posted by: duff0097 at February 6, 2006 01:21 PM

Claus,

You're correct - it isn't Denmark, and it isn't really even the drawings...it is just Islamo-fascist hatred using whatever means come to hand.

Still, we want you to know that we here in America are with the Danes 100%.

Screw a bunch of Islamists if they can't take a little heat...

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 6, 2006 01:45 PM

I agree...

To punish and bully a small nation because a handful of it's citizens did something to conflict with Islamic views is quite horrible.

Burning embassies? Boycotts? Overreaction is an understatement.

Posted by: duff0097 at February 6, 2006 02:36 PM

Islam is an evil, misogynistic and violent death-cult.

In Islam, the penalty for insulting Muhammad really is death.

In Islam, the penalty for criticizing Islam really is death.

Freedom of speech/expression is essential for all of the normal reasons plus this freedom allows people to critically analyze Islam. A critical analysis of Islam reveals that Islam teaches and justifies rape, pedophilia, murder, mass-murder, treachery, torture and hatred. Islam is evil. I can write that Islam is evil because of our Western values of freedom of speech. Long live the West! Long live FREEDOM!
