Cheney Vs Reid

Tom Bevan over at Real Clear Politics came up with a brilliant idea:

The other day Harry Reid stood up and accused Dick Cheney of being involved in "the manipulation of intelligence." (Howard Fineman confirmed on Wednesday that the Dems' new plan is to focus all lines of attack on Cheney).

If The White House wanted to get really aggressive (and they should), Cheney should fire off a letter challenging Harry Reid to debate the subject on the Senate floor next week. Let's go ahead and have at it, British-parliament style.

Let's see Harry Reid defend his accusations the Cheney manipulated pre-war intelligence. Let's also see Reid explain why he and so many other members of his party have changed their tune on what they believed about Saddam's WMDs. And let's see the Vice President defend the administration's decisions and their interpretation of pre-war intelligence as well.

It would be a supreme move on the part of the Administration to do this - as Bevan points out, the best Reid could hope for is a draw. The problem for the Democrats, of course, is that there is no truth to the accusation that Vice President Cheney - or anyone else - lied, misled or otherwise shaded the truth in the run-up to the liberation of Iraq. The Democrats haven't an actual leg to stand on and are hoping that a Big Lie campaign will just wear the GOP down. President Bush's speech yesterday was likely the opening salvo in a long counter-attack against the Democrats...and a televised Senate debate between Cheney and Reid would be wonderful. I hope the White House reads blogs: I reall do think this is a good idea.

Aside from that, please note that the Democrat's plan is to focus attacks on Cheney. Our Democrats are living in the past in which all wars are Vietnam and all Presidencies are Nixon's...so it is a natural they'd go after Cheney just as they first went after Agnew as a precursor to going after Nixon. Our Democrats really believe that they'll be able to impeach President Bush - it isn't a matter of "if", but of "when" in Democrat minds. They view the election of 2006 as a done deal and they are certain they will regain a Congressional majority which will allow them to proceed with impeachment proceedings...but they'd first like to bring down Cheney so that he can't take over after Bush is gone (remember, they see GW as impeached and out of office no later than February of 2007).

Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad...and the Democrats are raving nutters these days.

I really do wish Cheney would take your suggestion
and take on Reid directly on the Senate floor....
As President Bush, finally got "hot under the collar" and came out with his speech about the distortions of the Dems today, Cheney needs to do the same thing. The public perception when the
lies are not "outed in an aggressive manner", is to believe there may be something to the liars that are spewing out the rhetoric. It needs to be addressed with quickness, deliberate and direct
"aggressive" retorts. This is the only way the Dems are going to know, they must tone down the
rhetoric, is if it is met with force and truth.
I am quite surprised, that the President has let all this go on for so long-giving the Dems "more
ground in spreading their lies"-he needed to start
to be direct, and name party, and names. You do have to 'fight fire with fire sometimes', as THIS,
is the only way to quell your enemies...and make
NO MISTAKE-they hate Bush, and ARE his enemies.
Reid, Pelosi, Kennedy, Clinton, etal...and it is ONLY ABOUT GETTING CONTROL FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR PARTY....Like I keep posting, they could care less about our men and women in uniform, the
war effort to free the people of Iraq (does it even matter now, what "led up to the war"..or the facts of why we are there, and what needs to be done-or are they STILL making Sadaam out to be the
poor sap, that the BIG, BAD, UNITED STATES AND THEIR PRESIDENT, UNLAWFULLY STARTED A WAR WITH?

This, is what they KEEP saying, every time they open their lying mouths, AND, "IT IS PROMOTING THE
TERRORISTS (OR THEY PRIVATELY PROBABLY CALL THEM
'FREEDOM FIGHTERS') AND WITH THIS B.S., THAT ALL CAN HEAR AND READ 'ALL OVER THE WORLD'..IT HAS CONTINUED TO "EMBOLDEN AND EMPOWER TERRORISM"

ANOTHER POINT IF I MAY...WHY, oh why, doesn't Clinton just shut the hell up, and TRY to show some class as other Presidents "out of office" give to their successors....He continues to try to "Rewrite history in favor of himself and
Hellery, and it is tiresome...He and she, seem to forget, that they and the Reverend Gored, had 8 long years, to make a difference on fighting the
Terrorism that continued growing on their watch, and their many failures to do so, has put us all in the situation we now face on a daily basis. I
know, they were more concerned about "lining their
own personal pockets, than protecting Americans,
and so does everyone else"...they were failures at
keeping Americans safe, and thus, we looked so very weak and vulnerable, it emboldened these lunatics to strike (for the "second time") at the WTC. They were only interested in their personal
gains, and treated the acts of Terrorism as "police matters" and thus, NOW, want to rewrite
history to reflect otherwise....NICE TRY, but it
"DIDN'T WORK WHILE THEY WERE IN OFFICE, AND IT WON'T WORK NOW, AS THEY TRY TO LAY THE FOUNDATION,
TO GET BACK INTO THE WHITEHOUSE. They should also tell their friend "Babs, to quit trying to get an impeachment of President Bush going, as HE,
has been the ONLY President, who had the tenacity
to take this fight to those, that want to kill
Americans. Carter should also shut the hell up,
as he has one of the worst track records while in office, and Pulitzer Prize or not, he was held "hostage, along WITH the hostages in Iran, and looked like a baffoon-and yet, bashes Bush"
Go Figure....Don't these losers realize that with
the internet, etc. we can quickly bring up exact
speeches, information, etc. that 'SHOWS WHAT THEY
DID IN OFFICE, AND TRYING TO SPEECHIFY IT AWAY, WILL NOT WORK, AS WE NO LONGER ARE SUBJECTED TO THE "MAINSTREAM LEFT MEDIA-WHOSE LIBERAL PABLUM IS-NO LONGER BEING DIGESTED BY THINKING PEOPLE"

NOTICED TODAY WHILE PRESIDENT BUSH MET WITH THE UNIFORMED SOLDIERS AND GAVE A ROUSING SPEECH, NOT
"ONE OF THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA OUTLETS, THOUGHT IT IMPORTANT ENOUGH ON "VETERANS DAY" TO TELEVISE THE
PRESIDENT'S SPEECH, NOR TO HONOR THE VETERANS"...
ABC, CBS NOR NBC had regular programming on...THIS
should tell anyone who wonders if they have "an agenda-ala "Rathergate" or not....THEY DO.

Setting the Record Straight: Sen. Kennedy On Iraq

"It is regrettable that Senator Kennedy has chosen Veteran's Day to continue leveling baseless and false attacks that send the wrong signal to our troops and our enemy during a time of war. It is also regrettable that Senator Kennedy has found more time to say negative things about President Bush then he ever did about Saddam Hussein. If America were to follow Senator Kennedy's foreign policy, Saddam Hussein would not only still be in power, he would be oppressing and occupying Kuwait."

- Scott McClellan, White House Press Secretary

Sen. Kennedy On Iraq

Sen. Kennedy Said Saddam Hussein Was Developing WMDs: "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." (Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA), Remarks At The Johns Hopkins School Of Advanced International Studies, Washington, D.C., 9/27/02)

Sen. Kennedy: "Saddam Hussein Is A Dangerous Figure. He's Got Dangerous Weapons." (CBS' "Face The Nation," 10/6/02)

Sen. Kennedy Now Says The President Manipulated Facts About Iraq's WMDs: "'Instead of providing open and honest answers about how we will achieve success in Iraq and allow our troops to begin to come home,' Kennedy said, 'the president reverted to the same manipulation of facts to justify a war we never should have fought.'" (Deb Riechmann, "Bush Forcefully Attacks Critics Of The War In Iraq," Associated Press, 11/11/05)

Sen. Kennedy Opposed Removing Saddam Hussein From Kuwait. (S.J.Res.2, CQ Vote #2: Adopted 52-47: R 42-2; D 10-45, 1/12/91, Kennedy Voted Nay)

Sen. Kennedy Opposed Removing Saddam Hussein From Power. (H. J. Res. 114, CQ Vote #237: Passed 77-23: R 48- 1; D 29-21; I 0-1, 10/11/02, Kennedy Voted Nay)

I can't add much to what Jo said, but I'm beginning to wonder if Bush is finally realizing that the "new tone" just doesn't cut it. Being nice to Democrats is like being nice to terrorists -- it just doesn't work. And no, you leftist Moonbats reading this; I'm not comparing Democrats to terrorists other than in the way they both react to civil treatment.

BTW, I think a debate between Cheney and Dingy Harry would be a hoot. I think the VP would chew Reid up and spit him out.

Posted by: Retired Spook [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 12, 2005 08:55 AM

Cheney might threaten to run in "08" if they keep up the lies. The debates will take place then.

Posted by: DL at November 12, 2005 09:08 AM

Retired Spook

I'll compare the democrats to terrorists. Both will do anything to gain power. Both want the destruction of the United States, albeit for different reasons. Both are anti Israel. Both believe American corporations keep the people in the Middle East poor. Both believe the war is for oil. Both believe that Bush "lied." One can't tell where the democrat talking points come from, Ted Kennedy or al Qaeda? Both John Kerry and Osama bin Laden talked about Bush reading "My Pet Goat." Both democrats and al Qaeda have stated that Iraq is Viet Nam. Both want our troops out of Iraq.

And those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Hey CJ please explain to me why the Jewish population votes predominantly Democrat if the Democrat party is anti Isreal??????

Posted by: PLNMAN at November 12, 2005 11:16 AM

PLNMAN, as a Jewish Republican, let me offer this...

my people have been voting Democrat for a long time.. it's old habit... but, i think you will be seeing more and more Jews becoming Republicans once they start realizing how anti-Israel the left has become.

I have no idea but here are a few quotes from democrats:

"You f*cking Jew b@stard." -- Hillary Clinton to political operative Paul Fray. This was revealed in "State of a Union: Inside the Complex Marriage of Bill and Hillary Clinton" and has been verified by Paul Fray and three witnesses.

"The Jews don't like Farrakhan, so they call me Hitler. Well, that's a good name. Hitler was a very great man. He rose Germany up from the ashes." -- Louis Farrakhan (1984) who campaigned for congresswoman Cynthia McKinney in 2002

"Now that nation called Israel, never has had any peace in forty years and she will never have any peace because there can never be any peace structured on injustice, thievery, lying and deceit and using the name of God to shield your dirty religion under his holy and righteous name." -- Louis Farrakhan who campaigned for congresswoman Cynthia McKinney in 2002, 1984

'Hymies.' 'Hymietown.' -- Jesse Jackson's description of New York City while on the 1984 presidential campaign trail.

"Jews — that's J-E-W-S." -- Democratic state representative Bill McKinney on why his daughter Cynthia lost in 2002

Posted by: CJ [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 12, 2005 12:24 PM

Christian,

Not at all possible - to win a debate, you must say at least one true thing; and if you are arguing against the liberation of Iraq, there's nothing true you can say.

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 12, 2005 02:18 PM

"The problem for the Democrats, of course, is that there is no truth to the accusation that Vice President Cheney - or anyone else - lied, misled or otherwise shaded the truth in the run-up to the liberation of Iraq."

Right, I mean, the white house shared all the doubts that they were reading with the nation. Right?

Posted by: shortz at November 12, 2005 02:30 PM

shortz,

Anyone can go back over the intel in a post-mortem and say "aha!"...but the intel used in the run-up to the liberation of Iraq was the same intel, merely updated, that Clinton used to justify the bombing of Iraq back in 1998...something, no doubt, you cheered back then...

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 12, 2005 02:37 PM

Actually I led protests at my university. What is it with wingnut bloggers that presume to know me?

But was it the same intel? I'm sure, for example, it included the updates for the damages that clinton's bombs did to the WMD program. I'm also sure that in 5 years we can learn more about saddam than we knew in 98. And lastly, I'm aslo sure that the level of intel and certainty that supports a bombing campaign is differen than that which can support an ill-planned invasion.

Posted by: shortz at November 12, 2005 03:19 PM

Not a leg to stand on?

You know, except for the fact that there ARE NO WMD in Iraq?

Posted by: Jake at November 12, 2005 06:16 PM

Uh-huh, here we go again. Praise at the feet of shortz everyone, he led protests at the university. Don't pretend to know him/her,it! Praise me too, I led pro-Bush/troop rallies in my hometown. wooptie-doo!

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 12, 2005 07:38 PM

Jake,

You see, the thing is that WMD's were found in Iraq...and a fee flowing debate on TV in the Senate between Reid and Cheney would reveal this.

This sort of debate would be better if we could have it in prime time and force all television networks to cover it uninterrupted. You on the left have bought and are selling a massive amount of lies about the war...

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 12, 2005 08:59 PM

A Cheney vs Reid debate would be great. Cheney would take Reid to school the same way he took Edwards to school in the 2004 presidential election VP debates.

Posted by: Freedom1 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 12, 2005 10:52 PM

'Cheney would take Reid to school the same way he took Edwards to school in the 2004 presidential election VP debates.'

I liked the time when he said 'we've never met' and they had. Its kinds like the time he said 'saddam has WMD's' right?

Posted by: shortz at November 13, 2005 10:25 AM

He said "WE BELIEVE" Sadaam has weapons of mass destruction. Wake up libys, So did most of the rest of the world. You guys are playing politics and you know it! You protested the war to begin with, even if we had proven evidence, you would still have protested an invasion. Quit hiding behind B.S. politics and tell the American people where you really stand. Oh wait, that's honesty. That's way below your type.

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2005 01:50 PM

Colin Powell said a thousand times in front of the U.N. that there was no way we could indesputably prove these things, BUT COULD WE TAKE THAT CHANCE, knowing Sadaams history. simple answer, NO.

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2005 01:54 PM

'He said "WE BELIEVE" Sadaam has weapons of mass destruction.'

He was also crossing his fingers.

Also, wouldn't reid's opponent be Frist? Wouldn't debating Reid hurt Frist's feelings?

Speaking of Saddam....

Saddam's Lawyers Cut and Run

bwahahahaha!

Posted by: Freedom1 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2005 03:05 PM

shortz,

Normally, but as Reid is spreading lies about Cheney, it is only right that Cheney get the chance to respond...

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2005 04:39 PM

He was also crossing his fingers.

so now crossing your fingers is illegal shortz. Actually as a warmongering hawk, I remember my feelings on that whole theory. I was hoping that he wouldn't have the WMD's we thought he had, for our boys sake. We should be happy we were wrong, but no you lefty's had to go politicize it. A..holes

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2005 10:16 PM

"We should be happy we were wrong, but no you lefty's had to go politicize it. A..holes"

The fact that for some people being wrong is better than being right does explain some of the results this administration has given us.
