Among the demands of the leaders of the rioters is the France keep its police out of the "occupied territories"...this means that those areas under control of the Islamist rioters are considered to be now and forever part of the Moslem world - and the French are to stay out, while the Islamist seek to increase their territory as time goes on. I expect that the French government will go along with this...foolishly and suicidally, just doing it for peace and quite and in the hopes that the final explosion can be delayed until after the next election.
Poor France. Once upon a time, "they shall not pass" was a French standard...now, it seems, Chirac wants to add a fourth color to the French flag.
"Among the demands of the leaders of the rioters is the France keep its police out of the "occupied territories"...this means that those areas under control of the Islamist rioters are considered to be now and forever part of the Moslem world - and the French are to stay out, while the Islamist seek to increase their territory as time goes on."-Mark
Exactly. Eurabia. If the French surrender and go with the "two-state solution", then France is done as a Western nation. France will become an Islamic state where Sharia Law rules with an iron grip.
If France falls, the U.S. will have to destroy France's nuclear arsenal as the world cannot allow nuclear weapons to fall into the hands of Islamic radicals.

AP update: France get's tough, will impose...curfews
"Villepin said "organized criminal networks" are backing the violence and youths taking part are treating it as a "game," trying to outdo each other. He did not rule out the possibility that radical Islamists are involved, saying: "That element must not be neglected." France's community of Muslims, at some 5 million, is western Europe's largest."
"Rioting across the country left 1,173 cars burned in 226 towns overnight Monday-Tuesday, figures that showed the intensity of violence had decreased from the previous night, police said Tuesday. Vandals burned 1,408 cars overnight Sunday-Monday and attacks were reported in nearly 300 towns.
In violence Monday, vandals burned churches, schools and businesses, and injured 36 police officers in clashes around the country, setting a new high for arson and violence, said France's national police chief, Michel Gaudin. "This spread, with a sort of shock wave spreading across the country, shows up in the number of towns affected," Gaudin said.
In terms of material destruction, the unrest is France's worst since World War II — and never has rioting struck so many different French cities simultaneously, said security expert Sebastian Roche, a director of research at the state-funded National Center for Scientific Research."

If they really want peace in France, they must follow the lead of the people who birthed the concept in modern America: the hippies!
I recommend we take the movement that has gravitated to the present day anti-war crowd, so well represented today by Cindy Sheenhan and export it to France. However, we must return first to square one lest we lose the prime message of this movement, to end all movements.
We must throw flowers at the rioters. Is there another culture in the world that so loves flowers? Why the french are notorious for buying their daily flowers to spread joy and happiness throughout their world.
I recommend Chirac, the man of peace (don't fight in Iraq Mr. Bush)immediately loose his army, without armament, without ordinance, but with flowers -oodles of flowers, to walk the streets and alleys of Paris and elsewhere, casting flower petals and saying the hippy mantra of "peace brother."
It has done so much for America, that revolution of the sixties. May it save France and Europe from itself.
Happy Poppy Day France!

Rhod,
Thanks for the insightful feedback, especially the part about the "whinging loser." I've been called a lot of things, but that's a new one.
Perhaps your ire is misplaced though. Here you are, a Vietnam vet, posting on a Bush blog when you know damn well that Bush used his daddy's connections to jump the line for the Guard, and that the guy at the end of that line went to Nam in Bush's place. You know it, I know it and God knows it.
You may well be a hero, along with your sons. I applaud your service to your country, and I thank you for it.
Your opinions about Bush are, however, devalued by your willing self-deception about what you know to be true about Bush.
Hope I didn't do too much whinging in that, I'll try to keep it to a minimum going forward.

Martyrdom and wounded pride are unbecoming. Let me remind you that you landed here with the insults and assumptions. Your vile post branded as cowards and poseurs those with you disagree on other matters. You got what you deserved.
In re your observations on Bush's service: Neither you nor I know if this is true. In any event, the truth or falsehood of the matter is irrelevant to me, in the same way that Clinton's lack of service is irrelevant to me. Most veterans don't fixate on these matters.
Only the otherwise pacifist Left find's Bush's service troubling, because it interlocks with your cynicism about the Iraq War and your opportunistic need to find character flaws when you fail at the argument. I suspect you're no different. Leftists are forever appropriating other people's problems and sense of injustice in order to demonstrate your moral perfection.
Have you served in the military? If not, can we assume imperfection, disloyalty or timidity on your part? Or, if you've served, can we assume poverty, desperation, ignorance, urges to kill, rage or worse things on your part? The point is, I think, that you should stay away from these matters because every evaluation is meaningless. I've never need to be thanked for my experience and neither do my sons. You do what's required of you. Period.
If you disagree with the GWOT, stick to the essentials and stop the pretense. Veterans don't need your temporary alliance and limp concern for our bruised feelings. Most of us are a lot more well-adjusted than you think.

You don't know anything about the current situation in France, your media reports are ridiculously biased, firstly there is nothing of a 'muslim riot' except in the minds and media of the muslimophobes/arabophobes propaganda, with for example the Wahington Post telling the american audience that the two boys electrocuted were muslims and implicitly saying that the riot was a response by muslims... This is only a lie! This will of course comfort all the neo-nazis out there that speak of Eurabia or Frogistan.
Secondly, burning cars is somewhat a pastime for decades from the multicultural idle youth in the french cités (= projects).
The post 9/11 traumatized people should seek for psychiatric help and meet any 'muslim' to have a first hand opinion on them...
«if you are honest, you have to admit that the French are always ready to surrender!»
FYI, frenchs have lost more than 1.600.000 soldiers in the past century defending Paris, not really a people that surrender! (except for some ignorants like some of you, from a people that have never known a modern war on their own soil).

Btw about this "France's intifada" ("Francifada" here), which have first been published in the Jerusalem Post (english edition). It was criticized by the Jerusalem Post's (french edition) editor as being "extremely caricatural", in short 'ridiculously biased' via an Israeli point of view (they are fond of arabs and everything that is muslim as you know).
Once again the riots are not at all a 'muslim thing', even if your mainstream propaganda have accredited that bias to serve their 'clash of civilization' nazi-like doctrine.
Does any one of you that are speaking of arabs and muslims everyday, like an obsessional neurosis, know at least one of 'them'?
