Everyone is preparing for Bush's new Supreme Court nomination, which is expected at any time... Even Kathryn J. Lopez at NRO's The Corner had heard a rumor of an announcement to be made this evening (which turned out not to be true)... so, whenever the next pick is made, I hope Bush does the right thing and nominates a known reliable conservative.
I don't want Bush to shy away from a fight with Senate Democrats. We need this fight. If Bush picks a strong conservative, he will see strong, unified support from his base. Luttig, Brown, Alito, Owen... these are all good choices. We are ready to fight for this next nominee... Make the right choice, Mr. President.
UPDATE: Tomorrow:
President Bush is expected to announce a new nominee for the Supreme Court on Monday, and conservatives close to the White House said the leading candidates appeared to be federal appeals judges Samuel Alito and J. Michael Luttig.

"A source close to the selection process who spoke on condition of anonymity said avoiding a battle with Democrats, who have warned Bush about picking a right-wing activist, would not be the president’s top priority."
...sounds good to me.
Everytime Bush tries to play nice with the Democrats. The Democrats will stab him in the back. I think Nixon said something along the lines that he brought himself down. He gave the Democrats the sword, and the Democrats stabbed him with it
Just remember, Bush specializes in misdirection on these things. I would almost be surprised if he picks one of the names they're talking about.

I hear that Miers pick was just a trick by the President. He figured he would get better traction after the Special Counsel would make his announcement on the 28th.
Miers was never going to go through the process. Bush decided that he needed to make a quick announcement but more important was it to be at the right time -- like today, Oct. 31st.
Mr President:
YOU ARE DOING A FANTASTIC JOB! GOD BLESS YOU!..I JUST WISH I HAD THE FINANCIAL MEANS TO GIVE MORE TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!.I AM WITH YOU ALL THE WAY!........
