We've got precisely zero information of what Special Counsel Fitzgerald is up to and I thought it bizarre that the MSM was working out how Rove would fight indictment and try to clear his name...but this just takes the cake:
White House Watch: Cheney resignation rumors flySparked by today's Washington Post story that suggests Vice President Cheney's office is involved in the Plame-CIA spy link investigation, government officials and advisers passed around rumors that the vice president might step aside and that President Bush would elevate Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
The source for the story? A "Bush insider"...whatever the hell that is supposed to me. My bet is that it was a fantasy posted on Daily Kos which got endlessly repeated around the leftwing blogosphere until the MSM picked it up.
Our lefties are wishing us all a "Merry Fitzmas"...they are convinced that a huge number of indictments are in the offing, because the non-outing of Plame was just a horrific crime (which Joe Wilson is guilty of as he had her up on his on-line bio)...a crime designed to "punish" Joe Wilson for exposing the lies of the Bush Administration vis a vis Iraqi WMDs (except, of course, that Wilson's actual report tended to confirm earlier reports in support of Iraqi WMD programs).
I give up on the left - they are completely insane; and the MSM has followed them off the cliff.

I heard that, too! What the heck is going on down Washington way! I can possibly, maybe, just barely see them getting rid of Libby since his name came up, but that's only if you believe these bogus stories from the Times. But then I was watching Fox news real early this morning and they started talking about how people are talking about getting rid of Cheney. Usually Fox News is pretty straight about this stuff. Don't know how they let this one slip by. But this whole thing has gotten way out of hand. It's all the fault of that CIA chick anyway. I mean, if she just stayed out of it the reporters wouldn't have started researching her husband and her name wouldn't have come up.
The Democrats are delusional. I think they need to up the dosage of their medicine. This is getting ridiculous!
Those koz kids... what will they do next...lol...so full of bush hatred. Some day they should let it go... but in the mean time.. its fun to watch them go around in their circle of hatred and spew bon mots of gossip....
"It's all the fault of that CIA chick anyway. I mean, if she just stayed out of it the reporters wouldn't have started researching her husband and her name wouldn't have come up. "
Actually, it's Lyin' Joe's fault. His lies, first about his findings in Niger, then about seeing papers he'd never seen, then about who sent him on his mission is what created this debacle. The later of course relating to his "CIA chick" wife who recommended him for the his tea-sipping trip. By claiming that Cheney was the one who sent him, he opened that aspect of his assignment's origin up to scrutiny.
And now its being reported that Fitzgerald wont be releasing a report at all about this investigation, which has the left drooling that their will be indictments coming down. Guess they dont remember what happens when someone Assumes. I am still trying to figure out how any indictments can come out of this issue since there was no orginial crime commited you cant out a CIA agent who had been outed years ago and it was published all over the place that she was a CIA agent. Will be interesting to see. The big question is, Does Fitzgerald actually believe in the law or he likes the land of make believe law like Ronnie Earle
I think the stuff on Cheney came yesterday from speculation by or to Chris Matthews on "Hardball" and a report by Pete Williams on NBC that made it sound like a done deal until the last sentence which was something to the effect of "all of that or none of that may happen depending on what Fitzgerald's investigation turns up." (paraphrasing) In other words an entirely speculative exercise that wasn't broadcast as such until the end of the segment.
I fully expect Hollywood to the "Joe Wilson Story"..And instead of having him sipping tea at a Niger Hotel, they'll have an arduous trek through the jungles of Niger, overcoming many obstacles, as he searches for the lost yellowcake mines. ala Indiana Jones.
We've seen this before from the MSM-wishful thinking turned into "reporting". The MSM starts with a wish-Cheney's resignation. Then the MSM adds in an "unnamed source". And presto! instant story that circulates througout the globe. This formula from the MSM is predictable and sad.
But there is some good news.
Just a thought...Fitzgerald has devoted the past two years of his career (and life) to this investigation, slowly and carefully gathering data, facts and repeated interviews with adminstration officials from top to bottom. He's also a registered Republican and an all-around respected lawyer. Would he really waste so much time and energy on this investigation if there wasn't any factual evidence in the first place? And I'm sorry, but simply saying, "these are all lies!" is not a valid defense. The crux of the matter is not WHAT happened on the Niger trip, but the motive and intent behind subsequent actions taken by the administration in retaliation. What was said, and when. Who knew about it, and why. It's simply a matter of accountability, in my opinion; if it turns out that nothing happened and nobody broke any laws or made any conspiracies, then the White House has nothing to worry about.
There are people on the right and left in this blogosphere on either side of a divide nobody can cross, shouts of indict! and partisan smearing! flying fast and furious. I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and wait out the results of the investigation. Unlike the previous special prosecutor, Fitzgerald's office has been virtually leak-free, and that feat in today's Washington commands my respect. Until then, I just don't think blanket accusations at this point in time hold any water or have any merit. It's just my opinion, of course, and I'll probably be flamed beyond belief. Feel free to disagree, but please no attacks - I'm just interested in discussion :)
Just a thought...Fitzgerald has devoted the past two years of his career (and life) to this investigation,
You make it sound like a crusade. It's his job. He was asked by the CIA to look into the "outing" of one of their agents, and he has apparently done a very thorough job - which takes significant time.
slowly and carefully gathering data, facts and repeated interviews with adminstration (sic)officials from top to bottom.
You mean administration officials like Judith Miller?
He's also a registered Republican and an all-around respected lawyer.
Gotta make sure you point the fact that he's a Republican out, huh? Why, I wonder? Is it some kind of disqualifier?
Would he really waste so much time and energy on this investigation if there wasn't any factual evidence in the first place?
In a word, yes. Except it could not be considered a "waste" in any case. He is simply doing his job - he cannot know if there is anything to the possibility of a crime being committed until he completes the investigation.
And I'm sorry, but simply saying, "these are all lies!" is not a valid defense.
Defense of what? Where are the charges? I missed them.
The crux of the matter is not WHAT happened on the Niger trip, but the motive and intent behind subsequent actions taken by the administration in retaliation.
So Fitzgerald has "shared" the facts with you so that you know that "subsequent actions" have been taken by the administration? You must be special.
What was said, and when. Who knew about it, and why.
Sounds like what might come out when the investigation is done, don't you think?
It's simply a matter of accountability,
Uh huh. No report, no charges, no facts, just accountability.
in my opinion; if it turns out that nothing happened and nobody broke any laws or made any conspiracies, then the White House has nothing to worry about.
But they should in the mean time? Could that mean you might be just a teensie bit disposed to believe the rumors and speculation from the MSM and leftists who are drooling at the prospect of indictments? Just a little?
There are people on the right and left in this blogosphere on either side of a divide nobody can cross, shouts of indict! and partisan smearing! flying fast and furious.
Good thing you're not participating in that, no?
I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and wait out the results of the investigation.
Really?
Unlike the previous special prosecutor,
Who would that be?
Fitzgerald's office has been virtually leak-free, and that feat in today's Washington commands my respect.
I'm certain Fitzgerald just breathed a sigh of relief over that.
Until then, I just don't think blanket accusations at this point in time hold any water or have any merit.
No kidding.
It's just my opinion, of course, and I'll probably be flamed beyond belief.
If you meant what you said about not forming opinions until the facts are known, no one will "flame" you. But I sense you're sincerity level might be just a little suspect.
Feel free to disagree, but please no attacks - I'm just interested in discussion :)
And now, after a comment dripping with insinuations, you wish to control the discussion. Not likely, dearie.
"Just a thought..."
No, this is cut and pasted leftist talking points. I red almost this same crap verbatim at another site yesterday.
"Fitzgerald has devoted the past two years of his career (and life) to this investigation,"
So what? This is more "seiousness of the charge" horse shit. If he's doing his job properly and nothing comes of this it shouldn't matter how much time was spent on it.
"slowly and carefully gathering data, facts and repeated interviews with adminstration officials from top to bottom."
AND REPORTERS! :) Don't want to forget them, do we?
"He's also a registered Republican"
Richard Clarke made that claim as well. He's a lying Democrat. You only mentioned this to innoculate any critisism of him. It won't work.
"and an all-around respected lawyer."
Unless he fails to live up to your leftist expectations.
"Would he really waste so much time and energy on this investigation if there wasn't any factual evidence in the first place?"
YEP! Hence why it is called AN INVESTIGATION!
"And I'm sorry,"
You can say that again, leftist.
"but simply saying, "these are all lies!" is not a valid defense."
Who said that? No one! Straw Man! You're pathetic.
"The crux of the matter is not WHAT happened on the Niger trip,"
Oh the hell it isn't! Your attempt to disregard that very imporant part of this debacle is duely noted, leftist. But your boy Joey is LIAR, he LIED, and you love him for it. Admit it! :)
"but"
Already disregarded!
"the motive and intent behind subsequent actions taken by the administration in retaliation."
What about Lying Joe? Doesn't his lie about who sent him matter? We know damned well it was his wife now.
"What was said, and when."
I've got a nice selection of quotes regarding that! :)
"Who knew about it, and why."
I know you wish this to be another watergate.
"It's simply a matter of accountability, in my opinion;"
Which is worth jack and shit. How about accountability for Lying Joe Wilson? He LIED, he came home from his little trip, told the CIA one thing and published LIES in the NY Slimes and LIED in countless fawning press interviews. What about "accountability" for him? :)
"if it turns out that nothing happened and nobody broke any laws or made any conspiracies, then the White House has nothing to worry about. "
Implying the are "worried" now. If that's true, why did they INSTANTLY offer blanket waivers to anyone they spoke with? That has the effect of saying "Go ahead, tell them everything we talked about." Sounds like they are really worried.
"There are people on the right and left in this blogosphere on either side of a divide nobody can cross, shouts of indict! and partisan smearing! flying fast and furious."
And it ALL originates from your comrades on the left.
"I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and wait out the results of the investigation."
Does that apply to you too?
"Unlike the previous special prosecutor, Fitzgerald's office has been virtually leak-free, and that feat in today's Washington commands my respect."
Leak free? How does the press get all their little stories? :)
"Until then, I just don't think blanket accusations at this point in time hold any water or have any merit."
Who's dishing out "blanket accusations" here? I can prove mine!
"It's just my opinion, of course, and I'll probably be flamed beyond belief."
You know you deserve it.
"Feel free to disagree, but please no attacks - I'm just interested in discussion :)"
Feel free? How kind of you, your highness! I'll do what I please! You are interested in framing the debate. Consider your effort a failure.
